In my opinion Let's face it Labour have removed the winter fuel allowance seemingly to remove pensioners from the state pension process. Yeah that's right the poor elderly can't keep warm during cold harsh winter months because the have no means of paying for the energy so inevitably/unfortunately some may not make it through it. I take a different view and here's why. The MP's that have second homes are those that don't live close enough to Westminster to make regular commuting from home or their constituency practical. The alternative is for the taxpayer to meet the cost of central London hotel accommodation and those MP's spending a large amount of their day travelling rather than doing their job. The Chancellors official residence is 11 Downing Street, as it has been for previous Chancellors for hundreds of years.

Labour are finished before they start stabbing pensioners through the heart, what will they say when pensioners start to die of hypothermia due to the cold in winter because they can't afford to heat their heating.
They probably feel that pensioners can live on the one State Pension, which is very difficult, if not almost impossible. England's old age pension benefit is probably (or almost) the lowest in Europe already. Not all have an extra private pension. It's probably felt that their families will make up the deficit for their energy bills.. Even if that were true, not every pensioner belongs to a loving family. Many are alone, widowed with no adult children, or adult children who don't care or who are just as poor as they are. Whether they receive the winter fuel payment or not will depend on the result of a means test. So the more "well off" pensioners who enjoy meals out now and again and can go on holiday once a year (the normal things people have a right to do if able) will probably not receive it. It seems that pensioners will already have to be living a Dickensian lifestyle in order to receive the benefit, it seems.
They should not be claiming the whole of their energy costs given some of them live in quite grand places. There should be reasonable flat rate for all of them and thats it. I'm totally fed up with politicians milking the system. The same goes for their meals in the Houses of Parliament. There should be absolutely no subsidy on this unless they àre entertaining VIPs
Maybe they should abolish VAT of electricity for anyone that uses under the UK average and keep it on anything over that and use the tax money to give pensioners a heating allowance

Maybe if jobs paid a fair wage, more people would get off their arses and work. This is coming from someone who has worked his entire adult life and never claimed a benefit. I know many people who don't work (that could) and they have a way better standard of living than myself who is working 40 hours a week.

The problem is the politicians don't listen to the people, they get elected by the people to do what they say, once they get elected they do what they think is best, the people knows what's best why don't they listen.

Labour are finished before they start stabbing pensioners through the heart, what will they say when pensioners start to die of hypothermia due to the cold in winter because they can't afford to heat their heating.
They probably feel that pensioners can live on the one State Pension, which is very difficult, if not almost impossible. England's old age pension benefit is probably (or almost) the lowest in Europe already. Not all have an extra private pension. It's probably felt that their families will make up the deficit for their energy bills.. Even if that were true, not every pensioner belongs to a loving family. Many are alone, widowed with no adult children, or adult children who don't care or who are just as poor as they are.
Whether they receive the winter fuel payment or not will depend on the result of a means test. So the more "well off" pensioners who enjoy meals out now and again and can go on holiday once a year (the normal things people have a right to do if able) will probably not receive it. It seems that pensioners will already have to be living a Dickensian lifestyle in order to receive the benefit, it seems.
This is what they are hoping for, so they won't have to pay their pensions.

So, let me see. At 9.4 million (that's 25% of those of working age) claiming they are unfit to work, that means there are MILLIONS of cases of benefit fraud. Eliminating this would bring in hundreds of times more money than taking the heating allowance away from pensioners.
Maybe if jobs paid a fair wage, more people would get off their arses and work. This is coming from someone who has worked his entire adult life and never claimed a benefit.
I know many people who don't work (that could) and they have a way better standard of living than myself who is working 40 hours a week.

I am in utter dismay over the actions of this government. They are a disgrace, how dare they help themselves at the cost of others.

Claiming energy costs for second homes whilst earning a very good salary is beyond despicable. There are so many people in the uk who have no home, let alone a second one ! Cutting the winter energy allowance for ordinary people makes this whole second home energy claims even more disgusting. There should be no second homes, a true democratic government would have a large building with small, functional, flats for mp's, all they need is a bedroom, a kitchen/sitting room and a bathroom. The cost to the public purse would be low, they should also pay their own energy costs.
