  • After many requests, we finally got in a saddle that needed the stirrup leathers turned. In this video we cover the two main ways to turn your stirrup leathers, the easy simple way and the way that is a little bit more professional and a little bit more complex.

      Totally agree with you on what you said about "sharing with others" . Our world would be a better place if others had that same philosophy , especially the sharing of their "time" part.

    This is one of the best and clearest explanations of turning your stirrups on your Blevins buckles that I've found on UA-cam. You see people telling you to remove the rivets in the Blevins, flipping the buckle over and re-doing the rivets -- which isn't necessary and not something most people can do themselves anyway. I will also note that pinching the leathers and tying them in the folded position may not be necessary, depending on the width and flexibility of the leathers. I have a saddle I bought used, already folded, with wide & thick leathers, so I left it that way. But I have another saddle that I bought new, has always been flat, and I was easily able to turn my stirrups without doing anything to the leathers. Just turning the Blevins buckle around like in this video. Works just as well. But the leather in both the leathers and the fenders is very pliable, so it all lies nice and flat. Thank you for the video.

    I did the exact thing when my saddle was new. I did not intentionally wet mine! The horse did that for me when he took a roll in the pond. Thank you.

    The broom handle thing is pretty much of a joke, because it doesn't permanently turn the stirrups. You can leave the broom handle there for days, but as soon as you put weight in the stirrups, you start the process of the leather going back to where it "wants" to be, which is with the stirrups laying against the horse. And the longer you ride, the stronger that tendency is going to be and the more your knees are going to hurt. Besides, it's insulting to us casual riders that we aren't interested in (or can't be bothered) fixing our stirrups correctly 😂 It ain't that hard and well worth the effort.

      if your leather bounces back, you didnt soak it enough

    • @epona9166
      @epona9166 10 днів тому

      @@lilik6945 That could be true, although it doesn't take long to soak leaather through and it doesn't change the fiber structure, so I'm skeptical. I haven't done it myself because I've always read it wasn't a permanent solution and a permanent solution is so easy (turning them like in this video). The other thing is I'd be afraid that soaking the fenders partway up would leave a line when it dried. He doesn't mention that being an issue, but I'd soak them all the way to the top if I were going to do it at all. Anyway, take care.
