    John this is the second time watching this video and I've got to tell you everything is fantastic but the hummingbird stuff is just incredible. The 200-500 is a must have. Thanks again THE 800 RULES.

      Thank you, thank you. I still have the D800 - I will not get rid of that - and I keep thinking of getting another 200-500. I do miss that lens a LOT!! You know, sometimes you get lucky with hummingbirds and that was an amazing day. 🙏🤗💖

    Great video super shots. It only proves one thing Nikons rule. I think you proved to me I definitely want the 200 to 500. Great lense. The Z9 definitely has its perks. But look at that 800. Thanks, very enjoyable video

      Thank you, thank you!! I was never able to get ahold of a Z lens to shoot on the Z9 when I had it. I only had the Z9 for about 6 month before I sold it - the D800 is a camera I do not plan to ever part with and the best camera ever made - it is a beast. I did go back to my Canons as for me, I found the autofocus to be more reliable. However, I will be shooting a Z8 for a while with a Z600mm lens and a 1.4 extender. It will have the latest software so I am really looking forward to it. I am also hoping that Nikon does come out with a Z6III sometime soon as I would really like to try that one as well!! 🙏🤗💖

    Great work mate, awesome comparison! The image quality is excellent for both and just like with any cameras there are pros & cons which we had discussed before. Superb in flight shot of the egret at the end!

      Thank you, thank you, thank you Peter!!! I have been using the R7 with my adapted 500 F4 and 1.4 tele and I stand by my conclusions based on how I shoot. I know I will get negative comments but that is what I have found. Nothing is perfect - we work around the flaws and take advantage of the strengths!! 🤗🙏❤

    Excellent video John!👏Absolutely stunning images and footage! I’m not going to venture a guess on the camera used in the???? shots, although on the hummingbird head shot it seems that level of clarity would more likely be the Z9. You definitely maximize both cameras and I love those egrets and hummingbirds, again stunning!😍

      Bill - thank you!!! They are both really hard to tell apart. Those shots with the hummingbirds - the lighter ones are the D800. I used the same basic settings on each but I realized that I had developed the D800 shots a little brighter. Man..... I really love both cameras. Going back and forth between the two though, I did realize how much I like the articulating screen and the EVF!! The Z9 handles highlights way better and easer. With the D800 I really have to watch and use exposure compensation to maintain them. I miss quite a bit though. 🤗🙏❤

    • @JonnyPink65

      The D800 is the benchmark for me against which I measure all other cameras. The Z9 is amazing with maybe a little more in the dynamic range for highlights, but not as far as image quality. I was always my favorite camera and i will own it until one of us dies. I will also say that I think the single point focus (my favorite) is better or more accurate on the D800 - at least is is with the adapted lenses I am using on the Z9. The price .... yeah I could have used the money elsewhere but I really do live for today. Not saving money for the future - spending it all right now!!! 🤗🙏❤

      Thank you!! If you are currently shooting Nikon, it is an amazing lens coupled with the Z9 and the photos are super sharp. My friend was comparing it to his Tamron on his D500 and thought that it may be a wee bit slower for AF - but that is on an older camera body. I found it to be super fast and accurate on the Z9 with the shortcomings being with the Z9 eye AF itself - NOT the lens!!! I shoot both Canon and was originally a life long Nikon guys... until the R5, so I have been comparing both over the last couple of months.🙏🤗❤

    Great shots love my Z9 but as a friend of mine has a Canon R5 I really don't see where the Canon is miles ahead I see my Z9 is better than his R5 in tracking and don't forget Nikon has it with their lenses which Canon don't have.

    • @JonnyPink65
      @JonnyPink65  Рік тому +1

      Thank you. I LOVE my Z9 - I get the Nikon color and I get great shots - that is more important to me than the tech. I am using adapted lenses on my Canons and the Z9 as most will as well if they have older glass. For ME and based on my use, the Z9 seem to find the body more so than the eyes. If a subject is in the bushes the Canon still locks on where as the Z9 finds the bushes. At least it has for me. The Z9 is amazing and I wish Nikon had come out with it years ago before I switched to Canon like others did. I can still just manual focus and do in those situations, but again, it is just my observation based on my use of cameras. I also realize that there are many that search UA-cam who are newer to photography or looking for something that will work. I bring it up because I have run into folks here with the latest and greatest thinking they are going to get the best shot ever based on their gear. They don't know how to use it and that is a problem. If I can help anyone along they way while getting to share, that is awesome. 🤗❤🙏

      @@JonnyPink65 You could very well be right as you tested them more than me, Don't get me wrong I started with Canon in 2003 and left for Nikon in 2014 because of the huge DR difference, But I really like Canon as well and was thinking of moving back but it's the lens selection that stopped me and I would never buy a lens that cost 8k or more I know canon has the RF 100-500 which is great as my friend has it and it's sharp sharp, But me having the Z 400 4.5 plus the Z 1.4 tele is super sweet also. I have my Z9 set with AF back button to 3D and fn1 fn3 to W custom 2 and f2 spot AF and Lens fn2 to recall shooting function hold toggle off subject detection, Works great with me!

      I agree as well! My buddy has the R5, I’ve shot it plenty. It’s not any better imo. The caveat is that the tracking af is a bit easier to use on the r5. That said if you understand how to use wide area and 3d af modes well, the z9 actually has the edge in my experience.

      @@HotGates I want to state that I LOVE my Z9 - it is ever bit as amazing as my all time favorite D800. Old Canon lenses just work on the new bodies and I am having trouble with the favorite 300 F2.8 that is about 40 years old. The sharpest lens I have used in general has been the RF100-500, but I would really like to try Z glass. I am waiting for the rental company I use to have the Z 600mm or the 800mm in stock. However, I had not through about the 400 with a 1.4 tele so thank you for that suggestion. I am going to look into that as well. 🤗

      @@johnvanderploeg Hey, we all shoot to fit our own styles and that is awesome. I have gone through most of the focus settings on the Z9 and the two I like the best and have gone between is single point, like the old DSLR, and 3D. in the end, I just enjoy being out no matter what camera I have. With the older cameras I have to think about and I really like that. And..... advantage to single point and Nikon - it stays where I put it when a bird is deep in the bush and I am in single point!! 🤗

    Having owned so many Nikon D cameras and now the Z9, I agree that it is certain combinations and some of the lens/camera combos just don't play well together. I am now exploring the Z9+FTZII+2.0 TC+200-500mm VR to see what results I can get. Thanks Johnny! Go Team Pink!

I do want to try the 800 PF and the 400mm Z with a tele as well before I buy the 500 PF - it was so light. I dont need another lens but life is about want, not need..... mostly. It is completely up to date. It is an amazing camera but I have had the R7 out for the last couple of days with my EF 500 F4 and 1.4 tele.... and I will stand by that. Canon locks onto the eyes even in the bushes or before I can find it. Nikon finds the body and then the eye.... or the branches. Not a big deal for me but I do want to bring it ups since there are so many that say that Nikon has caught up. It is an amazing camera and I am going to shoot it until the buttons fall off but it is my observation. 🙏🤗❤

    Awesome video John and some great example shots. This is why I watch you my friend. You tell it as it is! You have now proven to me what I have been thinking/saying since the release of the Z9. The eye AF is good/decent but it’s not the same as the R5 or the Sony A1 (both of which I’ve used as you know). I remember seeing reviewers show the Z9 tracking and I was thinking hang on, the eye AF was much more sticky and accurate in the other cameras I’ve used. As a dedicated Nikon user myself, I would still be buying a Sony A1 + 200-600 or 100-400mm lens for birds and wildlife today. I think I’ll be sticking with my Nikon D850 for some time yet. This leads me to my next question. You’ve used both the Tamron 150-600mm G2 and now Nikon 200-500mm. Which do you think is better John out of those 2 lenses? Is the Tamron worth the extra 100mm or do you just crop in on the 200-500mm and get the same results in sharpness yet get a faster stop at F5.6 on the long end? Thank you for your honesty and great videos John 🤙🙏

    • @JonnyPink65
      @JonnyPink65  Рік тому +1

      Adrian my friend, first thank you. I know I will get a lot of negative for saying this but I have found it to me true. I think Sony and Canon have the best eye AF out there. As far as an amazing shot I can get the same with my 12 year old camera as I can with the new tech. Your D850 is an amazing beast and you get some mind-blowing shots with it. Lenses - without hesitation, I would say the Nikon 200-500 is the superior lens. It has a long throw as James was commenting on today, but I mostly keep it at 500 anyway. In fairness, I have not used the Tamron on the Z9 so that is a video for another time. And for me, I am not afraid to crop in until I get the frame where I want it and that is another reason I prefer a larger sensor. I know that the D500 was a crop sensor flagship but it did not work for me. The other thing I will say about the Nikon lens is that even James' shots using that lens were sharper. If you are going to get a longer lens than you 400, I would get the 200-500. I am also hoping that Nikon does come out with a 200-600 to compete with Sony. I would like to try that. Another lens I am excited to try is the newer 500 PF Z mount. A little slower than I would prefer but it will be fun to hire when they have it in stock. Hopefully next month. Other reviewers have said they prefer the 600mm F4...... ah so many toys, so little time!! 🤗🙏❤

      @@JonnyPink65 thanks again John for your honesty. I will look at the 200-500mm and maybe hire firstly to try. Or maybe a second hand F mount 500mm PF. Yes the Z 200-600mm is supposed to be this year sometime. We’ll see. You have proven again what I have been saying for over a year. Eye detect smy detect! I can (you can) get the same still shots with a D800/D850. Need more people like you on UA-cam John 🙏🤙

      @@adrianalfordphotography Thank you Adrian. You know, when I am using all the tech, I really do rely on the camera and not on me as much. That is something I have enjoyed about the M50 and the old D800. I have to think and I love it. And to be honest, I have also found that for the most part, my photos are better when I keep the ISO low like we used to have to do. The D800 never above 400 and the same for the R7 with all that information on the little sensor. The Z9 I have pushed to 1000 but again, I prefer it way lower so I watch it to keep it low. I guess in that regard I am old school, but it works for me in that I get results I am happy with. I really want to try some Z glass but that wont be until next month as that is when i think they are showing it back in stock for hire. Unless......... I have more credit and someone has something in stock.... to feed my addiction. 🤣 Hire the 200-500 and I think you will be impressed. 🤗❤
