One of the great regrets of my life is that I passed on the chance to study under Isaiah Berlin at Oxford. Instead I went and did my Ph.D. at LSE in the 1980s. I would gladly give my right arm to be able to go back and correct that mistake.

He is amazing to listen to isn't he... I would recommend his lecture on 'Freedom & its Betrayal' from 1952 here on YT. He discusses how dark and sinister Rousseanu's writings are and the impact he has had on dictators since.

I wish his voice wasn't so unnecessarily deep. I can barely understand the words due to that and the sort of bad audio quality of the time.

His voice used to bother me when I first heard it, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. It's somehow part of his uniqueness and appeal. I'm addicted to his whole way of speaking. In this case though, the audio could certainly be better.
