    this looks fantastic - i feel like if A1Up continues to make light gun cabs they should consider charging a little more for the 20’s because with shooting games you almost need the bigger play field to shoot objects in the background.

    If your having the power save issue I think the fix is to use a hdmi to dvi cable. Not the hdmi plugged into dvi adapter at monitor.
    I had nothing but issues during score tally with big big girls and since switching to the cable a few days ago not a single drop during the tally.
    Might want to give this a try, the adapter may cause a slight signal loss causing the momentary power save.

    Hopefully Arcade1Up will consider a larger stock screen for the next cabinet. I can handle the 17 inch monitors for most of their cabinets but these really need to be 20+. I don't think anyone currently produces 4:3 monitors bigger than 17 inches but maybe Arcade1Up can use their buying influence to encourage someone to start. I put a 32 inch on my CarnEvil mod, used MAME's bezel option to add graphics over the black bars and now I have a full 25 inch 4:3 playfield which is what CarnEvil had in the arcade. It makes a big difference in my opinion.

    very clean install!! best you can get while sticking with the original frame for sure. Definitely feel like 32" is a little big for the front TV mount style, but I really like my 27" monitor. I think even 24" might be better too so it doesn't hang off the sides and the stretched 16:9 resolution isn't too noticeable on larger screens. good work Doug!

    I love Arcade1up and have 3 of them, but this is one of a few examples I see that need a bigger screen stock from the company. They're gonna have to offer a 21" upgrade and maybe the 17" for many games to get me spending again. Also, HD!

    CoolToy,
    Such a great mod! I hope Arcade1up sees your video and considers a 20 inch monitor for a future iteration of Buck Hunter (or other future lighgun cabs).
    I don't know if it would ever be possible, but I would love to see a company like Tulsa Arcades have a skew that comes with a monitor and hdmi board included. Maybe even a power supply that could run it all from one plug. I know that's a tall order, and it isn't the hardest to get all the parts oneself, but boy would it be cool to get a kit that does everything and you can get it from one place.
    Thanks as always for showing us the possibilities to make our cabinets great. Although I don't mod anymore, I really like knowing I'm not completely stuck if there is an obvious shortcoming in an original design. Stay awesome, my friend!

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  3 роки тому

      yep, an all in one bundle kit would be great to see. I wish Arcade1Up would move on past the 17" monitors, but I understand from a large scale purchasing viewpoint why they choose not to. One of these days though, maybe that will change.

    • @videogamevegasYeOldeAccount
      @videogamevegasYeOldeAccount 3 роки тому

      Yeah, from a cost standpoint I agree with Arcade1up's choice of 17" monitors. They have been able to deliver a wide variety of cabinets at a consumer friendly price, which I never thought I'd ever see. The ability to own multiple arcade machines in my house is amazing! 17" size has been able to deliver the arcade experience on the cabinets I own so far.
      I'll keep my fingers crossed that Arcade1up will see the wisdom in offering bigger monitors on game types that require a bigger screen. I know I would buy a lightgun cabinet from them if they did and wouldn't mind paying more for the option. I'm glad to hear that 20" was the boost needed to bring it to that enjoyment level :)

      He briefly addressed it in another video by saying it sounded like a bad geekworm board. Geekworm doesn't believe this to be the case. That said, it definitely is the case. I've tested with longer and shorter hdmi, signal boosters, splitters, different tvs, etc. The signal varies based on a few factors. It flickers more when on a longer or cheaper quality hdmi and less when boosted. I still haven't gotten to go away completely. Knowing it was a signal power issue, I got a second geekworm board... It was worse than the first one.

      @@justinkernen7940 I’ve heard a few people say they needed to go through some 3-4 cards to find a good one, at least I got mine off Amazon, just takes forever for a replacement, I mean obviously it works because Cooltoy showed it did, just hoping it’s not an old monitor setting or something

    So I have my cable connected to the second row of pins on the Geekworm board, could this be why I’m getting screen flicker issues? I thought I had read to not use the top row of pins as that could fry your board.

      @@cooltoy This mod is a great idea ... and I bought everything to do it based on this video... (2x on the LVDS boards: 1 - 1.5 and 1 LVDS2 board). The 1.5 was useless. The LVDS2 board works but has signal drop, usually when switching scenes. Geekworm is blaming the PCB and yet everyone's experience seems to be just a bit different with the common denominator being picture loss. Might be time to update the video title with a "YMMV". I have one more LVDS2 board to try but I'm not holding my breath.

      @@jeffkamensky8369 I haven’t completely finished it since my family took me away from it, but I just used an encoder wire to ground it. Stripped one end to expose the wire and screwed that to the corner of the board while its still sitting in the original housing. Then I took the end with the metal crimp that would normally go on the button and literally screwed through it onto one of the metal housing holes. Played an entire round and bonus and no in and out. Going to play more when I get home and if it’s good, I’ll install the dell permanently.
