In my eyes it could only be justified if it was to protect ourselves. As in we were actively being attacked by a foreign force. No other reason. If a NATO country was attacked by a foreign force and article 5 was invoked it's a tough one for me but I don't think the average guy off the street should be getting sent over there. I don't think national service would work in the UK. There's a lot of variables and it's not black and white. I think we should be staying out of wars as well, but still build up our defensive capabilities. Thanks for watching, great to hear your opinions.
@MuscleWorld thanks max don't get me wrong I'm no traitor I love my homeland and if we where attacked with no profication I'd be out protecting my homeland and my fellow countrymen and women
As a veteran (15 years) in the 70s/80s . . . there is NOT a cat in hells chance I would sign up for anything this traitorus government could think of. And that includes the Conservatives as well.
My grandfather was in WW1 and he suffered quite a lot from wounds and anguish. I wouldn’t fight nor recommend my offspring to fight as it’s just not appreciated, my grandfather died in poverty after serving in the war.
Not under this government. They’ve shown the disdain they have for the working class, if they think I’ll be laying my life down so they can sit in their ivory towers they can eff right off!
Serve this country. Exactly who would we be serving, exactly who would we be fighting for? If our government refuses to protect our borders from foreign invasion, neither will I.
Nope. Served in the Royal Signals and then the Royal Air Force for 18 years during the 80s - 90s. Very happy to do that then, wouldn't now, this is a very different country compared to those days
No pb. There is a steady supply of young fighting age men arriving daily who can show their allegiance to GB by fighting for the country they so want to be part of.......
I Love the UK, well the UK I grew up in 80s, Now its not my UK anymore, so if I was asked, its a hard no for me, when my GOV protects none UK people before our own, they dont want a border to protect us, you have to ask who would we be fighting for.
I have absolutely no stake in this country despite being relatively grateful to be here, thus I see no value in possibly dying for it. I'd protect my family locally but I'm not signing up. I have no chance of marriage or in the dating pool due to dating apps and modern women. I'll never own a house. I'm white and male and thus society is actively against me in any court of law, job application or speech. This isn't the same Britain. I'm not gonna fight in favour of a society made up of non-crime hate incidents and that doesn't even value anything about itself.
I think todays youth are too scared to fight for their country. If you aren't prepared to fight you shouldn't be here. But MPs should also be on the front line.
They’re not to scared you deluded fool, they can Simply see the writing on the wall and aren’t willing to risk they’re lives for a fake war! Wake the fuck up!
Max, Would you personally jump at the chance to join up tomorrow and si in a trench in Ukraine waiting for Russia to reach you?. Honest question, I know i would not.
No, I don't think so. I don't think national service should happen in the UK and I don't think it would work or many would be up for it in the current circumstances. I don't think anyone in the UK should be thinking about going to war with Russia or anyone else for that matter!
I did N/S between 1960-62. I was stationed on Benbecula when there was a dispute on Glasgow Docking area, The rumour went about that us service people would be called in to take on the workload. The blokes I served with knew I had certain working class principles & when I said, 'I won't be participating' they laughed & said 'You will have to'. I'm a southern working class lad, loath any Establishment, still do at 86. We are designated this life cutesy of our Creator, as individuals, no dominion over anyone else & no one has that above us, not on this planet. That situation never came to fruition. I'll bloody well leave you to judge if I would have carried out my personal decision.
If ALL men* were required to do National Service (* excluding those in higher education) That would almost halt the 98% male illegal immigrants. The cost regarding the huge influx would be offset against a reduction in hotel accommodation requirements. No release until. standards reached including language. I did miss National Service by a few months - would I have been unhappy, probably when things were in the WWII mode. At the end though I had a late friend who was a sportsman of National standing who was permitted to train as & how he wanted. While I did a 40 hour week and then had to do my training !!
1. Do you really want to make studying for a degree in gender studies an opt-out for national service? 2. Do you really want to put guns in the hands of our invaders?
Who could be the target for "National Service"? is it likely that ethnicity might play a role? Remember that when war came to our shores a number of "foreigners" were rounded up and interned. Dependent upon the external threat's origins who and where would they be "housed" to protect the "Realm"? Is it possible that we might already have a potentially hostile faction within our society who might take a different view to protecting Britain against internal/external threats? These are questions that worry me.
National service is a great idea, but military service should just be one option. The NHS, schools, the National Trust could all use some additional volunteers. Do a couple of years in the forces or complete a certain number of hours of community service before the age of 25. No exceptions, just because you've ponced of to University doesn't get you out of it.
Apparently I'm still due some reserve service but TBH there's no way I'd go. I swore to do my duty to Crown, Country and Government, well they have all changed and I have no respect for any of them any more.
Great comment mate. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻 There's a number of people that would love to be able to laugh and give funny comments about this, but they are far from that protected reality and are witnessing the worst of humanity. But for me..... I'd go to town on my own turf and people but not for another country and not for our present ruling mugs.
national service should be for young offenders, but an ordinary citizen should not be forced to leave everything he loves on the whim of an unhinged government.
I would, though at 46 I'm a bit old to be running around with a rifle, Maybe better suited for a Civil Defence role lol, National Service shouldn't be a choice, It's should be do your Duty or do Time in the Glasshouse!
Why would anyone sit in a freezing cold trench all wet and feeling shit and getting the flu and someone who i have never seen never or done me any harm shooting at me and me trying to shoot him. No thank you I'll keep out of it if you dont mind.
National Service made a difference to young men's discipline in the early post war years. Something similar, even with a community service option might re-establish both that and pride in country (assuming we could establish governments who are not trying to return us to the middle ages and replace us with uninvited "guests".)
Do you mean national service (generally you can go into the forces or do something else to benefit the country) ... or do you mean conscription into the armed forces, first one is flaky, the second one is no choice you do it, you go through basic and you are turned into a fit and capable soldier, matelot, or airman ... you know, like the army that won WW1 and WW2 was. Generally it isn't the professional army that wins wars of national survival as I've just pointed out, it's a citizen army that is conscripted and does as its told (a bit like what is happening in Ukraine at the moment). In the end the nation will make us protect it, they've done it before and they will do it again, and all the people saying they won't do it, well you won't get a choice, the state has power and uses it when they have too.
I think you take a very reasonable none political view. I think you will get a lot of sign ups to fight, probably 100,000 given unemployment, before conscription would be needed. They would take a year to train minimum, if you want to have an army that uses oxygen. So you are looking at 2026 before the UK could send a reasonable fighting force. An army that size would last about 3 months in Ukraine if well supplied. So by late 2026-early 2027 the Government will have to push conscription. By then the UK economy would be a joke, no banking system to speak of, power stations mostly gone, no undersea cables or satellites, so no communication, national civil unrest. At that point the country people will be defending will be as large as the edge of their home town.
surely the uk military only wants volunteers, as people drafted dont wan tto be there, a professional military needs enthusiatic members, also what would they do with all these people
Couple of years in the clink for refusal would probably teach similar survival skills. And maybe even a trade if we were a little more enlightened. Cheaper than Uni, or even living with mum and dad!
The problem is max why would you fight for folk who hate you and are actively trying to get you replaced
100%
Sorry max I know you don't wanna bring politics into a good chanel like yours but it's true

We have boatloads of fighting age men arriving daily. Send them.
And make sure they don't come back
Mine Clearance Specialists ;-)
My thoughts exactly. They can fight 25 years for legal citizenship of Britain. As Romans had to do.
As a veteran (15 years) in the 70s/80s . . .

Dito. Not even if the enemy were charging up the Kent beaches. Anyway, they've issued our troops with rubber bayonets so as not to offend the enemy.
@@TomThumb-d1r They already are charging up the Kent beaches! Being met by the government handing out freebies.
Amen

Serve this country. Exactly who would we be serving, exactly who would we be fighting for?

30 years ago, but not with the way our government treats British nationals. Think many would say no, rather go to prison.
What about national service for woman too (equality?)
I too advocate for heads of state WWE straighteners to decide disputes
