Bro! This was a FANTASTIC video. I am honored to have been included. It is freakin awesome to know more of the backstory and behind the scenes thinking that went on. Truly appreciate you putting this out there. Nothing but love and respect!
I appreciate you taking the time to review Catalyst, it was such an important time for us. Also as an aside I love your accent bro!
Thanks bro! The feeling about accents is mutual! Mine is a conglomeration of all of the places I have lived throughout my life. Though I do get asked quite a bit if I am Cajun lol. Some people think I only talk like that on videos but that’s totally not the case. What ya see is what ya get. Respect man!
The whole album was/is amazing. 😍
Many of us dreaming of a Dorje reunion. Maybe a one-off, someday? Just dreaming. :)
Catalyst and Aeromancy are some of my favorite Dorje songs. Love hearing the backstory. You and Lee were the inspiration for me to pick up the guitar again after 10 years away. Thanks for that.
REUNION..........................PLEASE!!!...................please.
Congrats, Chappers! You and the other kids definitely put forth the effort. Y'all deserve the recognition! And I'm in love with that Ghost Fret.
Thanks so much!!
This was a great video Rob & really triggered a sense of nostalgia within me. I'll never forget finding the Catalyst music through a random UA-cam recommendation back in summer of 2017. It was before I knew about Andertons, Bea, Chapman guitars, & even the chappers himself. I was instantly hooked on the opening riff before being greeted by one of the most interesting voices I'd heard in a long time, & I've been a Dorje fan ever since. I was gutted when you guys officially disbanded, but I'm thankful for the two ripping albums we were blessed with :)
I feel we need to hear more stories about how the band came together, tour stories, etc
The catalyst solo has been my wake up alarm for years. Epic tune. Would love a tab book of the Dorje albums!
I dig Catalyst and it is so damn awesome to get the behind the scenes look at everything it entails. Well done on this video bro.
My man, I've been following you since the Primordial Audio Chronicle Vol. 1 days! (I also used to listen to your Rob Chapman Bare Bones album as well back then). When you released White Dove as a single I would listen to it on repeat, and when the EPs were launched my head was blown away by the awesome music! I still listen to the EPs from time to time to this day. I was so sad when I heard you guys were officially ending Dorje. But I'm grateful today for having created all that music together. Congratulations. To this day, Dorje is Hench as fuck!
To be fair, catalyst is bloody good. Entering the reaction video scene with this track is only well deserved.
I remember when this video dropped! The solo was a nice challenge at the time and when I revisited it a few years later I was finally able to nail it. 🤘🏼 Yay for progress in my playing haha
That entire EP was in my gym playlist for a long time as well!
Love the background story of the main riff. Great riff! And killer song.
Dear Rob, we have been telling you for years that Dorje is one of those projects that will always be in demand and loved but you didn't listen. Now that you're seeing real proof of appreciation on UA-cam you start thinking of that project, haha. Seriously, Dorje has been missed so much and people want to see the reunion, please take action about this. Dorje is the project that represents you guys the most as musicians and this is how the crowd wants to see you. Is it the most unique and marvellous-sounding band on the whole farking UA-cam!Sending much love to you and the whole Dorje team. DORJE! DORJE! DORJE!!!!!!
I promise it’s not through lack of trying bro
A Big Song. Chappers and the guys at Andertons was a big, great inspiration for me.
I drove from Kristiansand(Norway) to Larvik(Norway) mostly because of "Catalyst" !
Dorje and Red Tower are two fantastic and absolute legendary bands. I had the albums on repeat for a long time and still go back once a week and bang my head to them. Just wish I could have seen them live! Great videos Chappers!
I'm still quite sad we never got the full Dorje album.
I was just showing my partner your music only a week ago and she loved it. I used to listen to Dorje and Toska religiously throughout Highschool (13-17) I wanted to play like you guys like nothing else. I remember at about 15 or so I learned almost every single song from Catalyst EP and Centred and One EP. You and Bea have been the main influence in my guitar playing and even though I don't really have much time to play anymore (adult life took over) when I get the chance to pick up a guitar, one of the first things I play is always White dove or Catalyst
Also side note. That blue Ghost fret has been my DREAM guitar ever since I saw it as a scrawny little 13 or 14 year old
W9W! It's been 10 years ❤ it!
I still use Catalyst as a vocal warm-up. Have done for yeeeeears. Always a total blast to sing and vibe to.
Mr. Chapman sir, with all due respect sir....not just "reacting to". Some of us, as in me, live daily by the Dorje recording documentaries. The amount of musical life skills I learned from Dave, you, Bea and Ben I carry on this many years later 😂. Thank you guys for having documented it all. It is like an encyclopedia of what to do come recording time. Down to the "Dorje board of success" Ben made😂.
So cool man, I remember when it came out! I watched it THAT DAY. Amazing.
And GO LUKE🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
been getting back into the catalyst ep recently, mainly because robs vocal range and tone is similar to mine but man the RIFFS are just so good
The music that you, Bea, Dave and Ben produced is amazing. It's heavy where it needs to be, light where it needs to be, plays with tempo and is melodic. It's such a shame that the four of you parted ways. Damn lockdown...
That whole album is living rent free in my mind since I first heard it. Definitely a milestone in the development of my musical taste. Loved this video. Thank you for sharing this!
Holy Fire 2013, just magic
Dorje is one of those bands that has a flawless catalogue of songs. All absolutely killer
it is another one of my favorite songs from Dorje. by the way i love redtower and hope there is a full redtower album coming in near future.
8 years later still waiting for a legit playthrough of the song from Rob or Rabea. So many cool little things that I can't quite figure out on the record!
I've blasted this track in my car on many occasions!
Me, down in Aussie land,, absolutely loved this song and the video clip for it is simply perfect for this toon,, amazing video!! This song is one of my favourite , EVER, songs.. I recon Ive watched the vid 1000 times myself!!.Your a legend man! ----- Dude did you really use the Red Dwarf for this toon???
Love the location for the video - it looks like mars or something.
I saw you guys live a couple of times and it was Epic!
That riff is what I immediately think of when I think of you. I can't play it right but I can kinda "BS" it and that's my go to "pick up a guitar and see if it sounds good" riff.
The Song is a real banger, absolute timeless!!!
Great track with much deserved success
One of my favourite songs.
Completely unrelated comment but the red guitar with the gold hardware on the wall. Very nice sir.
Great song. Pretty sure the dude who reacted to it is Bobcat Goldthwait...
Been waiting so long to hear how this came about!
I love you Chappers!
It was fun hearing Dorje in one of MLB video games a couple of years ago, alas not on the main soundtrack but as incidental stadium ambience
This video created a funny ’... this place looks familiar..." moment while running the Gozo coastal trail loop back in 2020 😂.
Catalyst was the first track, the first time I found the band in my feed. Complete serendipity.
I’ve lived in Australia for over 40 years and so ,missed oodles of English bands over that period.😂
This song remained one of my absolute favourite music tracks.
Thanks for this track particularly , the band, the Dorje music collection and this history.
👏👏👏❤️❤️🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Now I know where your money comes from! 🤣 This song is one of the best I've heard and the video is really strong. Well deserved, Rob. Maybe...in the not to far future...something new from Dorje? The band was awesome.
Rob I would love to hear the story behind Zero. That song feels deep. I absolutely love Dorje’s music.
Oh man… that would be difficult to talk about..
@RobChapman I bought both Dorje albums. I love them!
Back in 2015 when you and Andertons did videos of tests and challenges with guitars I started to enjoy Dorje songs and live versions of them although I wasn't inclined to explore new artists. Catalyst became my favorite song and it indirectly helped me find new a band called Starset, their first album was released in the previous year, back in 2014. The band has released four albums now and I have seen a few live sets, but without Dorje's influence, I probably would have never known that they existed.
I also thought it was a green screen. The water looked quite CG. It blowed my mind when I realised it wasn't.
Unrelated but something cool, I still have my signed Centered and One vinyl displayed on my wall. I have a wall of vinyl records including the likes of Motorhead, Thin Lizzy, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, and Rush (all original pressings from back in the 70s and 80s) and Dorje is in the center of them all
That means a lot man
Listened to catalyst (song) for the first time in absolutely ages yesterday. What an intro
Such a killer song mate, have loved it for quite a while 🤘
Bea is a great guitarist , Totemist is a great group , I will always be with him ;)
Man, do I relate to that sunburn story haha
When I went to Malta for the first time I wanted to go to the beach near Valetta for like 30 minutes or so and also had the attitude of „I don’t need no sunscreen”.
I was all red for the next week lmao
A trip down memory lane ! And, off course, DAVE !
DAVE
Good ol days bro 😎
Hey Rob! Great story, you should do more of these! I was wondering if you have plans to release "Too Weak" on streaming platforms. I was looking for it when I saw yesterday's video lesson and I only saw it on UA-cam. :)
It’s a valid point, I’ll chat to the guys
'Catalyst' was a banger, no doubt. Still dig that song. Cool video, too.
Once we found out the filming location was in Malta, WE ALL used Google Maps to find THE EXACT location.
I spent more time than I was would like to admit, just sight-seeing.
Awesome!
Still listen to Aeromancy/Catalyst/All/To Survive almost daily, ngl im not the biggest fan of chappers anymore i havent watched a video of his in forever but cant deny those dorje albums they were amazing
Awesome track. I'd love to know more about your MonkeyLord EP Chromatic Aberration and how you developed the backing track, specifically what sounds like a djembe or bongos and drums and effects used, pretty please :)
I worked with an amazing production team on that EP, I’ll talk about that within another video at some point
Just giggling at your 5 guitar stands (I think, can't tell exactly) that seem to have 10 or so guitars each. When space constrained, just add one more I guess!
Sometimes, a hit takes a while to manifest!
That is such a cool guitar
By the way,...I would die for a Chapman Ghost Fret bass in bright yellow with black hardware🤗
My Dorje CD was in my car when it got STOLEN! RIP
I miss Dorje so much!
Dorje should rejoin and headline the world asap
I miss Dorje, is there a possibility to get a reunion?
Had an that success and they stop the band! 😭 I was a big fan of Dorje and they stopped with everything going well
The guy who did the review is in character, right?
Really doesn't seem that long ago 😅
GRammys.
Is this reacting guy speaking english?
Excellent song...
Why didn't the band capitalize on this success? Why did it break up so quickly?
Rob gotta say it - why don't you work on your own music more??? Catalyst is an all-time favourite. You get something out of that vocal I never get tired of. Like a piano fugue, you say two different things at the same time. Those are opera chops my friend - you missed your true calling. Many thanks, all the best
still miss Dorje so bad ... anyway ... what about an unplugged session? I mean, come on, that's the least ...😉
Pro tip: DO NOT BUY the Chapman Thinline (not sure model) but it is beautiful, one I have, purple and maple neck with the two badass single coils and the F hole. Amazing guitar, but u won’t play it cause you can’t see shyt. Period. They used gold color fret markers on a yellow fret board 😂😂. Yes I’m talking about the fret markers on side of guitar. Of course can’t see the inlays but you would think some single brain moron would have raised his hand and said “gold dot markers on a yellow neck is not a good idea” not a single moron did haha. Now I have to use stickers and junk to see, so disappointing 👎🏼
Hey Rob,
Congratulations on your success. One thing stopping me buying your guitars is the shapes are not to my liking. I’m guessing it’s a design you and your team like and one that must sell. My favourite design is Danish Pete’s, I don’t like sharp edges or unsymmetrical shaping, I don’t mind mild differential in symmetry, but where the differential is large it visually presents an unbalanced design, which I am not fond of. Your vocals sound better on Catalyst, not for me though. I think your brand is fundamentally different to my own, still kool represents you well.
I like you and your videos but please clean up that fingerboard..
Reaction videos are so unimaginative and boring. I have yet to watch a reaction video and learned anything from them, other than it's easy content for lazy creators to do. Haven't watched a reaction video in years.
