Never speak about this car again sir 😡 idc if it’s a big, small, or medium UA-camr, I want this car to be known by as few people as possible 😂 was about to buy one this summer for super cheap but then the guy sold it (was about to do a 6 hour drive)
@@blue_lancer_es I mean from every forum I read lots of owners are still on their first engine with the car being 30+ years old. Only shit that seems to break is the 4 wheel steering, the active aero, and the active suspension. All things that ppl replace or remove anyway. I’m sick of fwd so id pay the extra bit of dough for the awd and twin turbos
I`ve owned a 1991 VR4 few years ago, even if it was a bit abused example it never let me down. So i think calling 3000GT`s unreliable is a bit unfair. It`s reliability is mostly down to maintance, which many owners seems like love to skip. I actually know a person who loves 3000GT`s and even that person managed to kill engine in an 3000GT SL, twice in the same car. First time a timing belt snapped because it wasn`t replaced in time and second time due to coolant leak engine overheated and was damaged again, both times due to lack of maintance. God i miss my old VR4, what a cool car that was.
I missed the upload when it happened! Nooooooo!! Get better soon Mark! Can I ask for a good/bad/ugly for the 2004 Volvo V70R? (I know you've done a lot of Volvo lately I'm sorry I just love these things).
the SL is actually pretty good in terms of reliability, the reason that they have a reputation for being unreliable is just because people are scared to do maintenance just because of the cramped engine bay. Once you catch the car up on maintenance they run just fine :)
I daily my SL. It is not as hard to work on as a tt nor is it the hardest car to work on, anything rubber in the bay will have to be replaced other than that I haven’t had much issues. The valve stem seals only really go out on the vr4 because of pcv system, the NA only would go out if you don’t keep up with oil changes. Synchros go out but that’s with any car, I have a 200k mile transmission and don’t have any grinding unless you go into reverse without putting it in 1st gear beforehand. Just got to keep up with the maintenance and they last just like Honda civics
My great uncle has a 1st gen 3000gt and I need to just nut up and ask to buy it if he's ever interested in selling it. I don't know if it's an SL or a VR-4, but I know it's a manual, low milage, and very well kept. I daily a GS 350 so it's not like I'm dead in the water if an issue pops up. I want that car soo bad.
@@sasatek no sir, base sohc makes even less, but respond a lot better to mods. The SL or dohc NA engines make around 170 to the wheels, and fbo (I,h,e) a little over 200 to the wheels
ive always wanted a 3000gt as a project car. wanted to engine swap it to a 4g63T or a 4b11T. shed some weight while also opening up room for lots of power potential and aftermarket support. the issue is having the money to do that. its a great looking car that rivals the eclipse imo, but that engine and trans holds it back a lot. if they had made a legendary v6 or inline 6 to go with that bad boy. then we would have a different story today. those engines were cool at the time but today are extremely obsolete. hell they were obsolete at the time too. still might say f it and start that project.
correction on trims: the SL you are talking about is actually the base model for 1994-1999, the SL makes 222 hp out of a dohc version of the same v6
The VR4 is on my top 20 list of imports. Always had a special place for this one!

This car has been a known problem car for decades lol. You’ll be fine.
Get a manual SL. Less shit to break

Datsun 240/280z?
The SL horsepower is incorrect. It’s reported as ~222 HP not 170 HP.
It is about 170 to the wheels
