Another great and simple explanation! I was mucking around with a bevel, when I should have been watching Buildsum!

Always used block strutting.. I want to use herringbone on my own cabin / project and see the joists.. wanted a simple explanation of how to achieve this.. absolutely faultless mate.. bang on.. following now to see if you can teach an old dog any more tricks. 👍

Excellent explanation and diagram and a great help for me. The only tip worth adding maybe is to ensure that the 2 struts do not touch when they are fixed as this causes later, annoying, squeeks in the floor?

Can lay a joist on the ground ie 2x10 measure the width of each space you want to do sync there 14.5 inch make Mark's at 14 14.5 and 15 take a tape make a list 1 too whatever now use the template and the list number your cuts and bundle then bang them in nail above and below done save you running back and forth to each joist space

Hi Mate, that should work, just remember that the length and the angle will change for each different length.

Dyu have an opinion on the preferred pattern? I saw a video which staggered the struts such that each other joist spacing reversed the direction of the strut.

Hi Mate, no, no particular option for me, just try and make it as easy as possible to nail.
