I am just trying to find out why so many concrete freeway overpasses in my area have almost 2 feet wide gaps in between sections of pier caps, running vertically through the girder and deck locations?

Hi, do we need to do de-stressing for the psc girders bridge prior to start demolition works?? Or can we directly hit the psc girders from one end to start demolition without de-stressing.
