Tony was an absolute gentleman who guided Aston Villa to the 1982 European Cup. But it wasn’t until Doug Ellis showed him the door in 1984 that “the ghost of Ron Saunders” would most certainly start hanging over the club. Villa have never been the same since.
Oddly enough, I always remember how Tony got the team playing a much more attacking style than under Ron but....unfortunately.... they then lost a lot of discipline defensively and began to concede too many goals.
