  • Hello!
In this video I take my touring bike project out for a spin through the North Yorkshire countryside. It's an old Dawes Vantage entry level touring bike that has sat in various garages unused for over a decade, it needed a complete overhaul to get it back in shape but it's running well now.
Stay tuned for more bicycle adventures.
    Thanks for watching.
    Cheers,
    Ben.

Ben the fair weather wanderer! I'm back out tomorrow with Callum. Hopefully I get to see Haystacks this time. Nice to see you out on the bike mate.

You can’t win mate, if it’s not blowing a gale it’s pissing down! I wouldn’t mind getting up to Haystacks like, my truck is in the garage for it’s MOT tomorrow but I might try and get back over next week……. If the weather looks decent 😂👍.

Hey Ben. Good to see the bike restored. It's a great way of camping and discovering paths that you otherwise may ignore. I have a road bike that I can fit panniers to etc but it's more for a ride out than touring, probably end up with a trail bike some time. Shame about having to abandon the Lake district trip but you know when it's not right and did the right thing turning back. Looked amazing in all that snow though! Hope you manage to get out soon, weather's not been kind to you so hope that changes soon. ATB mate.

Hi Martin, yeah the weather was a bit rough up in the lakes. A trail bike would be great around your way; loads of dirt roads to follow. I plan on getting a MTB later in the year to conquer the off road trails in Scotland and the Dales etc. I think I'll buy a new one rather than restore another old bike though, doing this one was enough of a headache! ATB mate 👍

@@Adventure-Outdoors Yeah there's tonnes of Mountain bike trails around here. Parc del garraf where i hike a lot, has some good ones as well as up towards Castellet which you can pretty much take a trail all the way to the coast. Always fun. But yeah, when you said it was over £300 to fix that one up i did did, probably easier to buy a new one and save the hassle but looks like it rides well so should get a few years out of it for the less strenuous types of bike camps. Cheers!

Cheers Paul, it's good to get out and explore those quiet roads up that way. I wish spring would hurry up though, there's another cold snap on the way. Atb mate.

Cheers Tom. I found your channel a while back while researching fat bikes. The trips you do look great! I'm going to get an off road bike later in the year, I still can't decide whether or not to get a fat bike or a hard tail MTB. ATB mate.

@@Adventure-Outdoors I'd usually advise a hardtail MTB as they are the most flexible.. Fat bikes are slow and a nightmare on road sections, but if you're happy bimbling along they smooth over the lumpy sections better than anything else and require less technical ability and concentration as you don't need to 'pick your path' to the same extent. You'll have seen from our videos were happy with that - no heroic mileages there! and the missis isn't too confident off road so enable routes that she wouldn't be happy doing on even a typical MTB... - They also make short work of sand and snow and enable traversing over boggy sections that even a decent MTB would struggle with.. - as expected though they still have limitations... - anyway I've rambled on too long!! - ATB Tom

Did you consider a small scooter? Can be great to get away for further touring. I had an Inazuma 250 for a while, that was a cheap & great short-medium distance touring motorcycle. I ended up taking it on about 30k km of touring 😅

Hi, I've done a fair bit of motorcycle touring in the past, I started off with a Honda C90, really wish I still had it. I ended up on the bigger bikes, I have a Yamaha XT1200 although I haven't used it for a while. What I like about the push bike is that I can sneak it into the woods around here without raising any suspicions! Thanks for watching mate 👍

@@Adventure-Outdoors yes it's a bit of a shame to move up to bigger bikes. These days I'm back on a 110cc honda wave most times and couldn't be happier. Floats over bumps and goes ridiculous mountain bike trails I'd never take any other motorcycle on.

Perfect build for consistent adventure, those tyres should see you for as long as you have tread same with the orit's. Have both on my commuter never an issue

I just wish I got a slightly wider tyre as I can feel every bump. Although I recently bought a second hand Brooks B67 sprung saddle which does help a bit 👍

@@Adventure-Outdoors Yeah I think I have 700x38C on mine they still run quite hard though also means they don't deform if you get low pressures. They've increased the range if you browse the website.
