I swear 90% of Sannan and Chizuru’s interactions is Chizuru ignoring the red flags and Sannan looking down at her like “You curious, naïve little child.”
People really forget that sannan had battled against every hardship aline, without the support of everyone once he became a rasetsu (and dare i say even after he git injured.) i think everyone forgets a little that sannan wasnt as privileged as the other, they got to be all together longer, whilst sannan was casted away. As someone who was locked up for a long time inside a tiny apartment, i feel his agony kf being always inside the shinsengumi and never hage to be seen, and the fact he thought of even taking his own life share how he is a character that suffers more than he shows. I love him, ill do anything for him and i wish people understood him more 🫶
There are definitely A LOT of things that made it incredibly difficult for Sannan, many of which he had no control over, or debatable control over. It's heartbreaking to see how everything ended up working against him, and it sucks to see people whittle down his complex struggles to "He's just evil/crazy/a sociopath" and ignore the complicated role he has to play (both in terms of his actual responsibilities and in terms of who he needs to be to do them, much in the same vein Hijikata is somewhat 'playing a role' as the Demon Vice-Commander), his psychological issues (which are being exacerbated to an extent by the Water of Life and social isolation itself), and the obvious signs that he's not actually as alright with his place in things as he keeps claiming he is. And mind you, this is sometimes from the same people who will actively defend the other members, including Okita, who is arguably just as questionable in his own right. It's not impossible to say that he's not perfect and highlight his problems without completely demonizing him.
I genuinely find it hard not to get excited when Sannan is so happy... 😭 I was getting so invested, my heart was just pounding... But Chizuru is right. And oh, my goodness 😂 Sannan when Chizuru is like "Hmm maybe please don't go around testing your newfound powers recklessly when people care about you dawg you literally got injured before this what are you doing" he's so surprised, hahaha, tunnel-vision, people-forgetting-man strikes again. I love him so much.
I really enjoyed this chapter and Chizuru’s reaction about the Rasetsu going out. It felt real and showed better how her Rasetsu encounter is a real traumatic experience for her.
