    6 been a Scout leader for 20+ years along with DofE leader and have had many waterproof jackets over the years, including paramo. Last year, I bought a new coat and found myself after many years holding a Berghaus cornice gtx in my local outdoor store. Been to the Beacons for a four day DofE gold practice rained the whole time, and it didn't miss a beat, and I love the hood. Yes, it's a bit heavier, but it's built exactly what this old scouter needs, relaxed fit, gtx reliability, longer and no need to mortgage the house.
    Ps, it also went to Budapest in December for four days with a micro down jacet mid layer with rain, sleet, and then snow perfect.

      @theautumnalcyclist7629 I bet you've done some great trips in that time, I feel a bit jealous. I myself have used a fair few gortex jackets over the years. All of them have been fine. The RR cyclone rescue these days is waterproofed with fabsil, so I'm happy to use it in the rain, even though it didn't do as good as i thought. It's a good fit and made well, so not all was lost. I was attracted to the price to its build and mark billy Billingham was advertising it at the time. Keep up the good work scouting, and I hope you enjoyed the video 👍

    Never tire of these vids showing the interesting landscapes, paths and buildings. Love the choice in background music as well. Great ambience and very relaxing. Thank you, Andy!

    I have a paramo helki, bought it last year, went up Snowdon a few months ago in bad conditions driving rain all day with hail fog and 60mph winds, got back down and was just slightly damp which I was happy about. Was looking at this RR a while back cheers for honest review.

    Quality review, I just use my RR Cyclone as an urban waterproof. I use my Rab Kangri 3 layer Gore Tex when I am out on the hills.

    Can you recommend a hood waterproof jacket? Inalso used thia jacket but only for the city and some short walks outside... But i also think that it will loose if it will really rain....somif you have any recommendation for a jacket like this but which has good water resistance... I would like to know. Thank you for ypur video!

      A good waterproof jacket would be one that's made of a gortex material. It's going to be more expensive but buy good buy once and you'll save in the long run. This jacket on the video is not gortex. It just looks like a gortex jacket. Hope this helps.

      @@Andy-walkaboutnutty sorry for my bad writing... I was typing with my phone fast ...
      Thank you. Yes I know gore tex but also saw videos here of brand new north face gore tex jackets which were completely wet after being outside in the rain.
      So those jackets are expensive... And I don't know if that was just some bad production or if any material which prays it can "breathe" is just garbage when it comes to be waterproof.
      Maybe a Patagonia Triolet is something worth to try out.

      @Andy-walkaboutnutty  Рік тому +1

      @ka10r15 I've never done any videos on North Face gortex unless you meant here on UA-cam in general. It's difficult to the point of being impossible to tell what is good enough to get your money's worth in the shop. I've sprayed fabsil on all of my jackets, and that can make a respectable difference. The current times with brands are tight and wouldn't rely on a good name. Cutbacks can occur over time, so you either take a chance or get a cheaper one like on this video, which I've sprayed with fabsil and it beeded like a good one in a short burst of rain, might do another video with it in the rain to give it a chance to redeem it's self?? or an army gortex, which are ugly but cheap for what you're getting, and they're heavy duty. Hope this helps.

      I've coated mine in fabsil waterproofing, but I don't think I'll be taking it out purposely in the rain. It's a summer jacket to me. We'll done on sending it back under warranty 👍

  • @minemetsa

    Nikwax will not waterproof it. It makes it water repellant, it doesn't soak and keeps the breathability as it doesn't soak.
    The waterproofness is from the membrane. If the DWR (Nikwax) has horn off the outer layer might be soaking wet but it's still waterproof.
    Though usually in this scenario you get wet from the inner moisture, condensation.
    From the video seems the water repellency is not as good and it seems the inner layer is moist from condensation.
    Thanks for the review. Now I know not to get it and invest slightly more.

      I've always used heavy weight gortex in this awful weather. The lighter stuff is worse than the one in the video. I have to say that the jacket is well built and good quality, but it was a little bit damp in places, but having said that, I still wear it with wool underneath and I've since sprayed it with fabsil. I don't think I've wasted my money. Anyway, thanks, and I hope you enjoyed 😊

    Hi Andy. I have tried Nikwax multiple times and have never been able to get it to work. Tried to reproof goretex jackets following the instructions to no avail.
    P.S. have you tried páramo analogy system clothing?
    Love your vids and keep up the good work

    Thank you for another great video and comprehensive review. You certainly did take a battering on this one and proved the jacket wasnt suitable for the British hills.
    Was the jumper you were wearing Army issue?

    • @Andy-walkaboutnutty
      @Andy-walkaboutnutty  Рік тому

      Thanks for the compliment Gary, it was a bit rough, to say the least. I have 2 jumpers. One is a new Dutch army jumper by mil-tec, an exact replica, made of wool, and I'm really glad I bought it. The other is a new British army jumper. An exact replica, made of wool, and I'm really glad I bought it. Which one it was I can't remember, and I can't remember where I got them from except on line. Thanks again, and I hope this helps. 🤘💯

    The sooner people stop buying RR kit the better. Its not outgear. Its not even dog walking gear. Someone is going to be sucked in by all the celebrity promotion and will use it on the hills and they will perish. I used this jacket on Scafell in January not knowng how terrible it is. I think i only survived by the skin of my teeth because i had a forclaz mh 500 waterproof jacket and a forclaz down jacket in my pack and ditched the RR jacket. Its probably still up there now.
