  • First time shooting this rifle because I finally found ammo. This is the raggedyest rifle I have, was thrown in with a sale, and I never shot it. I'm pleasantly surprised. #arisaka #japanese #7.7Jap #type99

I like the comparison of the two rifles.

That rifle actually never came from the factory with AA sight wings. Someone else added those on. It also never came with a dust cover or monopod. It's a fairly late made rifle in the 25th series, right before they switched to the fixed rear sight, which happened about 3000 rifles after yours was made. Someone also sadly sanded the stock and ground the safety knob smooth. You also push the safety in and turn it; not pull.

Thank you for the info. Was the AA sight added for increased value? That safety knob is awful! I wonder why they accepted that design. Also, it has rails for the dust cover, I think ... How can you tell the stock was sanded?

@@planefun2962 They kept the rails on the rifles up until almost the end of production, long after they stopped adding dust covers to rifles. I can tell the stock was sanded because late Kokura rifles like yours has a pretty distinctive rough cut stock.
