- Did you ever wonder how to get that bluesy feel on a tune like Blue Moon of Kentucky? Mike shows you the bluesy slides to get that authentic bluegrass sound on the fiddle. Here is the tune in G. Later in the video, Mike breaks it down a bit more so you can learn the notes.
My uncle Kenny Baker played fiddle for Bill Monroe. It's one of my favorites!! Also Jerusalem Ridge is a great one!!
Hello Elizabeth! Thanks for the comment!
SUPERB DOUBLE STOPS my friend ❤
THANKS! i enjoyed you music as well! Keep it up!
Quite possibly my favorite song of all time, and the best part of it is the fiddle. Great job, thank you for the video.
Thanks so much.
this song has just such a powerful "walking around in the wooded swamps of Louisiana when suddenly out in the distance you can see a dude in overalls without a shirt and a straw hat playing this song" kind of vibe.

Can you show us your take on the fiddle portion of “Somewhere in the Middle” by Cody Jinks? Studio version, I think. That, and Plantation Ball Waltz, by Byron Berline. The latter is one that I’m close to figuring out...
Will try to get Somewhere in the Fiddle posted for you soon. Oh, was that Middle on the Fiddle.

Hi J R, check out this video for my thoughts on the fiddle part in this tune. I will get back to Plantation Waltz later on.
Could have been a little clearer in some spots, but I was able to figure out the first segment by ear. I appreciate you uploading this, it's what I was looking for.
What scale(s) does this song use? Is it like a G major pentatonic (if that's a real thing)?
I ask because although I'm playing the notes you are, I don't know why (I'm a beginner).
Hi Jason, Thanks for sending your comment. See the video G Scale for Blue Moon that I am just posting right now for a bit more detail on the scale used in the song.
Thanks a ton!
THANKS
Question
Sometimes I practice plucking the violin (like a guitar )
Is it harmful to use a pick( lightly)
or would I damage the instrument
Thanks Mrs Sheridan
A pick can scratch the surface of the instrument, which is why many guitars and mandos have pick guards. If you like picking you might consider getting a mando. The scale (note locations) are the same as the fiddle. Or just use your bare fingertips for plucking the fiddle. Of course, the bottom line is that you can play your instrument how it pleases you and if it gets scratched that is better than leaving it in the closet. Whatever you decide, have fun picking and sharing music. 🙂
Thank you
Mrs Sheridan
Didn’t think of the pick guard-
I sound better plucking than using the bow. still kind of scratchy
Practiced the long short short and a few chords
Enjoying learning ( since the Coronavirus shutdown)
Very tough
You make it look so simple!!
Wish I could play like you
@@stephensheridan93 you will be amazed how much progress you can make with 15 minutes of basic skills practice each day. Record yourself if possible and listen 6 months after. You will be impressed with your progress.
Bluegrass with Friends
Good idea
I’m determined to some day play in an adult orchestra in NYC they have one would remind me of when I was younger playing clarinet and saxophone in the band
Thanks Mrs Sheridan
Are you in cross G ?
no just standard E,A,D,G tuning. Have fun!!!!
