    Nice work. If it's not the module after that thorough diagnosis I'll eat my hat. Stickers are looking great

      I'm with you on that one buddy. If it's not the module then it has to be the wire between the module and the coil. I didn't check that because of the nature of the sudden non running truck. I shouldn't assume but I'll show the results either way. Thanks for your sticker, it really brightens up the place!

      Thanks Dizzy. One reason I'm taking lessons and doing my own work is because I got stuck with a $800 bill for a new computer that didn't fix the problem. Never again. I'm working on part two of this video...the fix!

      Thanks. I just picked up the part. It was more expensive than a used computer! I hope this does it. We'll know by tonight.

    You have to have your foot on the clutch, but since it's an automatic, I guess you'll need to install a clutch pedal first?Interesting to watch you go through the steps. Hope the new module does the fix... and hope the part store has it in stock. :)

      Me too brother. You never know how much you miss something until it's gone and although the truck has only been down for 3 days, we miss it. Thanks for the comment. If I can get the part tomorrow there will be a part two tomorrow.

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52 8 років тому

      You're right Wyatt about missing a vehicle when it goes down. And it's tough sometimes to keep them running especially when they get some age on them.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  8 років тому

      We really enjoy this truck but sometimes it get close to being sold! But then what? We'd want another one and they're expensive. I told my wife at least this truck is giving me some experience in diagnostics!

    • @stuzman52
      @stuzman52 8 років тому

      I feel the same way. The last new vehicle I bought was back in '94. All the vehicles I've got are pretty old. Even when the 2000 LeSabre's tranny went out, I pulled it out and rebuilt it five years ago. I just hate to pay those expensive car payments and I don't think the new cars are worth it. If the truck is giving you good service, hold on to it. As you said, you'll get a lot of experience in diagnostics :)

      Yea, sadly car companies are not stopping to ask the one important question "Just be cause we can does not mean we should" and so now we have cars that can be started over the internet, hum.. what could go wrong. :)

    I know on older vehicles you can burn the coil up with the key in the on position too long. Looks like the same thing happened here.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  8 років тому

      That's right. If the points were closed you would burn them up. I hope the ignition module does the trick. Thanks for watching all the way from the Carolinas!

    8 out of 10 times I've found the module to be the issue on older HEI/PCM controlled units with no spark..Just sayin'

    Well looks like you're narrowing it down, I had one of my older 96 - 98 can't remember which, acted kind of like that and on mine the spring contact on the rotor cap had a hole burned right through it Hope you get it fixed let us know.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  8 років тому

      Visual inspections are still important for sure. I changed my cap and rotor only because I had the old ones off anyway for preventative maintenance but I started to think if this module isn't the problem I need to see if that distributor is turning. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the comment. How's retirement treating you?

    Great diagnostic test. I really like that Snap-On tester.
    I do the same thing in checking my electrical problems but not as nice as you did, lol.
    The diagram you drew up was very clear and precise. Is there any reference info to check the module with an ohm reading or continuity?

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  8 років тому +1

      None that I saw. I'm going to do one more check that was suggested by a tech I really respect but other than that, this better be a fix. I have the part now, just going to grab the camera and we'll watch together if this is it!

    • @JamesLaceyJr
      @JamesLaceyJr 8 років тому +1

      In the dealership they always have a good part to check the system with and I always called them part changers. And that is what they are. Put a new part on, engine runs, charge you 5, hours diagnostics@ 80+per hour.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  5 років тому +1

      It sounds like you need to start checking components for powers and grounds. A possible wire issue?

    • @anthonychermesino2533
      @anthonychermesino2533 5 років тому

      I still have no spark I did then when the van warms up some reason I lose it that was last week now I have no spark at all but it cranks but I have fuel. I've done all the wire checks you have and i cant seem to find anything wrong my next direction is to look for a broken wire that's all I can think of now that might be causing this problem

    • @anthonychermesino2533
      @anthonychermesino2533 5 років тому

      its all very frustrating for me i have checked all the basics i know i have good compression too. I'm good at this stuff so im irritated i cant fix this i still feel like i'm missing something so simple and silly

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  5 років тому +1

      @@anthonychermesino2533 I worked on a 2006 Dodge truck for 18 hours (in two days) to find a crank, no start. It is very frustrating I agree. A broken wire is my best guess too. Good luck. I guess there is always the option of towing to a good shop.

    • @anthonychermesino2533
      @anthonychermesino2533 5 років тому

      @@wyattoneable it turns out it was a broken wire just as i guessed it was burnt through and stopped the crank signal.
