Same feeling when a friend of mine and I saw the transition cutscene into this fight and we saw the chlorinated Tokyo down below. Hype and chills at the same time.
Just did this raid for the first time. When this phase kicked in I didn't realize what song was about to start playing. And then that harp melody kicked in and i felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. I didn't think I would end up sobbing actual tears for the entirety of that fight. I'm glad that the mechanics were relatively simple because tears were making it REALLY hard to concentrate, haha.
Overall pleased with this raid. Nier and Drakengard hommages all throughout. Was a little concerned the final phase would be a rhythm game, bullet hell or visual novel of some sort.
In its native timeliness, so devoid of hope, this...THING...was invincible. Its influence meant there was no happy ending, or at least not one that could be achieved easily, or completely. But this time, it's different. This is a reality of fantasies that have yet to be final, a reality where mad gods can be thwarted by those with the resolve and skill to protect what they cherish. Here, a happy ending is possible. Here, the bleak song can be silenced. Here... You can win.
I’m not familiar with Drakengard, and I really wish I was, but when this played, something about this made me realize that this fight, this song, this entire alliance raid, was something special. Something that, to me at least, demanded respect, not through bombastic motions, but through its solitary nature. This song especially feels…lonely, for lack of a better word. And while a lot of what was presented went over my head, I can tell this meant so much.
This song absolutely encompasses everything you'd ever need to know about Drakengard. With the exception of D2, every Drakengard ending always has something horrendous occur despite winning in the end. There is always someone abandoned in the end, either the main character or someone close.

Is so weird, final part is a nier automata raid with almost everything being a Nier boss. Only automata boss if the red girl that you fight multiple times during the dungeon. and then the last boss is all the ladies mixed, Kaine, 2B and of course Zero. and that is pretty good, is like a love letter to the fans.
You must remeber yoko taro tendency of making all nier lore cannon to the orginal story. What we know of all the lore is that the red girl survived the paradox virus that as used used defeat her and her clones ,and that her plan to escape earth and her programming still succeeded. (The entire plot of nier was that the red girl didn't want to die,but she could only live so long as she was fighting the enemy. She was trying to evolve and did to expand enemies from just the androids to the aliens who created her and finally all non machine life.) 9s,2b,and a2 got to survive and were rebuilt on the machine ark that was sent to another planet. In the epilogue given at the music concert, there are two canonical endings. One where a2 and everyone dies again, and one where a2 never awakens but 9s and 2b do. Yet they decided to continue to fight to stop the machines. Thus did the ark land on the first. But by then 9s and 2b were fighting for awhile. In a desperate bid to surpass them, red girl decided to copy 2b by making p2. What's more an army of them to defeat the two. But with our aid even that was stopped. When she was saying we should stop resisting, she wasn't talking to the aliens who just recently popped up on her ship. She was talking to 2b who has consistently fucked up her plans since the start of the 14th machine war. So where does the Kaine,2b creature come in? Well remember what she was ultimately trying to do was do the impossible. Create life, as a non life form. The only being with memories of a living person both in automata and in all lore besides is A2. She's from a generation of androids that were built using humans memories. And she's the last model. Not even the Ola units have memories since all human era androids were destroyed. A2 memory base was Kaine, a powerful warrior in her own right. And a2 was still in the machine ark defenseless. The only person to have ever defeat 2b. The only person to have live human memories. The only creature in there machine and android war with true free will, able to live how she pleases. A2 is special. And more then likely she was in the egg. The creature being creatures was to be an amalgamation of the only things that red girl believed had surpassed her. The human android, and the android who never fails to stop plans. 9s has never been objectively special. His hacking is something all s units can do, he's never stopped her plans alone, and his combat skills are inferior. So with the memories of Kaine, a2,and 2b, the red girl finally creates life from nothing. And it immediately succumbs to the white chlorination. Humanity plan was that by destroying the watchers forces the watcher attack on humanity would stop. But a watcher influence since draken one has been that once it starts it cannot stop. Once a watcher arrives in your world, your species is doomed unless they are sealed once more. The queen was never sealed. So as long as humans exist ,so to will the queen corrupt them to spread to other worlds and corrupt them. The red girl immediately took on the traits of a watcher queen. Just like flower zero. She had finally created life based on humans, and it was close enough to be devoured by the queen. It why during the fight it uses true magic, different from the diluted magic that the machines learned from there time on earth. (The red and black orbs.) But with it's death we assume it to be over. But with 2b and 9s knowing the history of humanity and of that creature, the creature androids and replicates were orginally designed to kill, they knew it wasn't over. Once a watcher arrives it's to late. All you can do is seal off the infection. And that's what they did. They went back and closed the door.
@@davidforde2507 Damn man, most of the stuff I read about DrakenNier comes off as aloof / pop philosophy "Taro wants you to draw your own conclusion" kinda analyses, and I've only played Automata myself and was kinda disappointed by the story. The idea you've posted here is pretty amazing, whether it was Taro's intended work or just your fanfiction. Good stuff! Do you by chance discuss this in other corners of the internet that I can read up more on? Or have a write up of this with citations to the original works?
@@brainfriiz2351 I'll give you that yoko just works with what he made in the present, rather them making some massive narrative from the get go. He admits that ,just as he admits that whatever ending you want is cannon to you. But objectively speaking even though every drakengard ending is Canon to the player, only one makes nier and the other makes nier 2. And while every drakengard 3 ending is cannon to the player, only one makes drakengard 1. Every ending creates a new narrative. But specific ones link the games, books, plays, and other media together to create the actual drakenier multiverse. Of which there are only two. One where the queen gets to Tokyo and one where it doesn't. All media fits in draken 1 ending e or d(if I'm not mistaken draken 2 is based on ending d. ) As for links for more info on just a lore guy for games and other media I enjoy and yoko taro makes it a God damn struggle. Currently there are the two plays with unique lore, the 1 time only epilouge a and b for automata that was revealed during the 5th ever automata musical concert in Japan where they got the voice actors to voice the epilogue to ending e( It is revealed they weren't actually resurrected, but rather there code was preserved in the machine network on the ark to be recreated where ever the machine network can create new machines period. ).there is also a lore book, soulcalibur, sinoalice, ffxiv, and it's rumored the nier re-release will have more automata lore.(still working on what the title code is supposed to be if it's even code for something) Point is while yoko does do things randomly, and he jokes alot, and he adds to a story rather then simply fleshes one out, he never jokes about the additions made to the games he's involved in. The golden rule is if it's a square Enix approved collab, then the lore is real. He was making jokes that p2 was more then just a color swap, but was a "evil" 2b that no one took seriously until ffxiv. Then there is him saying there was one secret left in automata that no one believed until it was found this year by hackers.(there's a level skip during the tutorial at the start of the game that unlocks everything.) Aa for yotubers to look at? I'm bad with names but I've seen a few videos talking about the connections for nier lore. There's a relatively recent one with this guy who does iceberg videos. Sorry I can't say more. As for Me I've talked with people who have questions on reddit and the like, but. I'm not a post guy or content creator. I'm just a fan.
I love that the first few seconds is a raid wipe hahah the sheer chaos of the healers raising/lb3 and smn/rdm raising everyone and dying to the mechanic is very "blind run"
Fun fact, the Bosses form Her Inflorescence has design points from both Zero from Drakenguard 3 and Kaine from Nier, so the boss itself is a symbolic link of the two settings. Remember while Drakengard is adjescent to Nier, they are set in different universes connected by the flower and the fact god absolutely hates humans.
There's actually a lot hinting that they might take place in the same universe but at different points in time. Considering Accord is a timetraveler but is mentioned in NieR: Replicant (remaster), NieR: Automata, and of course featured in Drakengard 3 it seems a little odd for it to be different "universes"
@@gbtygfvyg The Cathedral City is implied to be Tokyo. I think it was mentioned somewhere that a modern city just magically appeared in the Drakengard world one day in the same calamity that brought dragons and magic into the world, and that city was Cathedral City/The Imperial Capital.

a gorgeous loveletter to a franchise that has since risen from it's own ashes, much like 14 no? This raid series is just genius. The melding of two brilliant minds giving us a raid that is rewarding to so many fans. I fell in love with Automata, and through watching playthroughs of NieR and all 3 Drakangard games, i came to love and appreciate all of the games it's connected to. If ever a series deserved a true remake, one to give it the love and respect it truly deserves, it's Drakangard. Drakangard is a perfect example of something I say often: Games are not made on graphics and gameplay alone. It's the story, the characters, the music...the PLAYERS and the journey you have that truly make a game in my eyes. Drakangard is such a unique game series, and NieR just as much so. Combining these two games feels right to me. And I'm so happy they did these raids. a series that deserves more love, and this is a fantastic end to a raid series. This fight was insane. When I saw the transition I made everyone in discord jump by shouting "ARE WE ON EARTH!?" took me a minute to see it was fake. But still, a nice a Drakengard reference.
At first I didn't think they kept up the pattern of the last boss being a mashup of songs from both games, but on the second run I finally heard it: the OG Final Fantasy Theme. These mashups are so seamless, it's magnificent.
I love how they include so many old DrakeNier visual and gameplay motifs into this battle. Like the black and white rings from the rhythm game final bosses.
The realization of where we were and what was happening didn't immediately click into place. But once the music started playing, ONCE THE BELLS KICKED IN, everything clicked and I completely lost my mind... which wasn't good since the boss was also damned hard, heh. This was an awesome fight and an amazing tribute to both Drakengard and Nier. A raid I will never forget.
While the song is great and all, I wish they had actually used The Final Song form Drakengard 3 here. Drakengard 3 has my favorite soundtrack out of the Nier/Drakengard franchise and while I love that they gave us Drakengard fans something, I was expecting the song to turn into the Final Song or some rendition of it for the whole fight.
Although I'd agree, most of Drakengard 3 focuses on the influence of the black flower and the effect it had on the world. The only way I'd see that happening is if they implemented the black flower into the story. And in the timeline that leads up to Nier, all the intoners were already defeated by Zero, thus ending the flower's influence.
Something about this song fills me with an emotion I don’t really understand. It’s like something’s pushing down on my chest really hard… ...I choked up a little when the fight started.
I know, it's sounds sad and mournful, with notes of hope or longing sprinkled in. I never played Nier or Drakkengard, so I don't know what all this means really, I just know it makes me feel quite a lot. It's absolutely beautiful.
@@Nayukhuut It's a remix of several songs from Nier/Drakenguard, all of them from very poignant moments. Evil thought just occured: Yoko Taro comes back in a few patches with Her Ultimate Inflorescence, the fight picks up at Her Inflorescence with far more difficult mechanics...and the last 1% becomes a Drakengard style rhythm quicktime event. Even one party member off beat is a guaranteed wipe.
I mean, we kind of did, with those rings where you have to turn to match the colors... that can tie your fingers into a knot if you're a melee and trying to do positionals, match colors, avoid cleaves, AND avoid all the other mechanics.
This fight when you're the only person in your friends group whose played the DrakenNier games: Nobody knows the panic of hearing the Queen Beast and nobody understands why you're too busy crying to rez them. Also lots of screaming "Match the colours!"
Most games would have a fight like this scored with something epic, inspiring. But here, it's a peaceful, hopeful yet tragic song. Tragic because this won't save the people who died because of the Watchers' machinations. Hopeful because we're preventing them from doing the same to Eorzea. Peaceful because this war is being laid to rest, with victory in our hands after years of devastating, tragic failure. So many have fought the fate the Watchers wish on us, and failed, but here, we have finally *won.* No strings attached. And it feels so fucking good. God bless Square Enix, God bless FFXIV, and God bless Yoko Taro.
"Shadowbringers will have Nier collaboration for Alliance raids" FF fans: "Nice, we might even get 2B glam :)" Every yoko taro fan went "Yeah he's gonna shove Drakengard in there somehow" Yoko taro "I'm gonna expand the Nier /Drakengard relation, in ANOTHER GAME, A N D N O B O D Y C A N S T O P M E"

And then that harp melody kicked in and i felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. I didn't think I would end up sobbing actual tears for the entirety of that fight. But this time, it's different.

You can always learn about drakengard, it's never too late

She was trying to evolve and did to expand enemies from just the androids to the aliens who created her and finally all non machine life.)
9s,2b,and a2 got to survive and were rebuilt on the machine ark that was sent to another planet.
(The red and black orbs.)
But with it's death we assume it to be over.
I don't know anything about the plays and the extracurricular works, but if what you say/surmise is mostly true, then Taro is a better writer then I was giving him credit for.
All media fits in draken 1 ending e or d(if I'm not mistaken draken 2 is based on ending d. )
As for links for more info on just a lore guy for games and other media I enjoy and yoko taro makes it a God damn struggle. Currently there are the two plays with unique lore, the 1 time only epilouge a and b for automata that was revealed during the 5th ever automata musical concert in Japan where they got the voice actors to voice the epilogue to ending e( It is revealed they weren't actually resurrected, but rather there code was preserved in the machine network on the ark to be recreated where ever the machine network can create new machines period. ).there is also a lore book, soulcalibur, sinoalice, ffxiv, and it's rumored the nier re-release will have more automata lore.(still working on what the title code is supposed to be if it's even code for something)
Point is while yoko does do things randomly, and he jokes alot, and he adds to a story rather then simply fleshes one out, he never jokes about the additions made to the games he's involved in. The golden rule is if it's a square Enix approved collab, then the lore is real. He was making jokes that p2 was more then just a color swap, but was a "evil" 2b that no one took seriously until ffxiv. Then there is him saying there was one secret left in automata that no one believed until it was found this year by hackers.(there's a level skip during the tutorial at the start of the game that unlocks everything.)
Aa for yotubers to look at? I'm bad with names but I've seen a few videos talking about the connections for nier lore. There's a relatively recent one with this guy who does iceberg videos. Sorry I can't say more.
As for Me I've talked with people who have questions on reddit and the like, but. I'm not a post guy or content creator. I'm just a fan.

Kaine is the reincarnation of the intoner Zero.
There's actually a lot hinting that they might take place in the same universe but at different points in time. Considering Accord is a timetraveler but is mentioned in NieR: Replicant (remaster), NieR: Automata, and of course featured in Drakengard 3 it seems a little odd for it to be different "universes"

a gorgeous loveletter to a franchise that has since risen from it's own ashes, much like 14 no?

Coming right out of the Raid and have to go to YT.....Awesome Song

The harp... my god is it beautiful
I love how this straight up just takes place in the middle of a modern city now.
This was such a gorgeous track. I'm glad I turned on my music.
the inclusion of the final fantasy main theme is absolutely masterful.
