@stephencarlson6028 oh yeah they would absolutely love to take that from you as part of the bribe.
Also, you don't need to be alive to pay the bribe.
Definitely gave me the impression that there’s a choice 😅
Step 1: RENT A MEXICAN CAR
Rent a Mexican Car & you don’t get pulled over in security checkpoints or nearby the toll booths. I’ve traveled south more times now in Mexican rental cars than in my Texas vehicles. They will definitely not even ask you to tell them where you are going or anything if you have a Mexican car.
Step 2: TRAVEL ON TOLL HIGHWAYS
Like I mentioned prior, stay on the toll autopistas, don’t travel on the libre ones or the federal ones. These private toll booth ones are maintained, safer, and faster. Extremely unlikely (I’ve never heard of it happening) that a criminal organization would blocked a toll highway. Just the other public and govt ones.
Step 3: GET MEXICAN IDENTIFICATION
(This applies if you’re Mexican or are American but have Mexican born parents)
With Mexican born parents you are given double nationality meaning you can become a Mexican citizen at the same time as being an American citizen. You can get Mexican IDs, License, and such. It’s way better to travel with a Mexican passport or license in Mexico so that you don’t expose that you are American. This way a cop or bad person won’t want to extort you or ask for excessively expensive bribes. Especially when they threaten to take and keep your ID back at the police dept. (here is where they usually suggest you pay them on the spot so that you don’t lose your ID). If you don’t pay them and play along that you’d rather go to the police station, they’ll hit you with the “I’ll let you off with a warning”. You’d probably care less about your Mexican ID than you’re American ones so it’s safe to risk them taking off with it.
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this very well-thought-out comment. It is very valuable.
With double citizenship, the cops can arrest you and there is nothing the US consulate can do to help you. You'll be treated as a mexican national.
Is there a way to get fake Mexican papers as an American. Like Mexicans do here in America. Lol.

As a Mexican my greatest advice is always show respect, specially when dealing with cartel members, respect is number 1 apart from money in Mexico.
Thank the good old fashioned American government for funding the michoacan cartel and making everyone's life in Mexico less safe! Go america! Lmfao
Where in the world isn't respect number 1?
@@sal2975 In the United States majority of people will not kill you if you disrespect them, no matter if it’s a white or black person although I think a black person is more likely to kill over disrespect. Have you ever met people from New York or Boston for example? They are highly disrespectful and it’s apart of the environmental culture wether white or black.
Whereas in Mexico we have a much more masculine culture because life is hard and hard times create hard men we don’t clown around, men act like men and disrespect is not taken lightly you will be killed if you take it to far on a much higher rate than the United States. Specially when you go into areas outside of the city and that’s for normal people that are not cartel related. My mother has over 20 dead cousins and 2 dead brother and it’s due to violence, I’m telling you I know what I speak off. Entire families fight over disrespect and can lead to multiple deaths, they will go to your house and say face to face while looking you in the eyes “such and such said this and let’s handle this problem”.
Now for Cartel people, that’s people you don’t want to disrespect period. There’s been alot of Canadians over the years that go to Mexico thinking their tough guys and showing disrespect, they get killed that same day. Respect is valued much higher in Mexico than majority of places in the world because it’s apart of our culture and it’s what can dictate if you live or die.
It’s very simple, just don’t ever show disrespect. Even a child can understand the concept

My friend, an American, was beat into a coma down in Mexico. Mexican authorities required a bill of $30k+ be paid before they would release him. You’re a disgusting person. I feel sorry for your family. I’m sure you’ll just disappear. No apology. Just humiliated into silence.
Mexican Army is organized in patrols, they are always close to more military units (caravans, military barracks, or a road frequent to them). Their vehicles have license plates of very few characters, for example L-992 (watch out the colors of the vehicle too). And the soldiers have patches designating military stuff (I don't know if it's rank, utility or ID).
If they don't look like that just avoid them with caution if you can.
Also try not to travel in good pickup trucks or suburbans in narco states since they can use that and sometimes steal it.
If they steal it don't resist, things can go easy or wrong but your stuff is theirs if they ask for them, your life is worth more than that.

Paid by the cartel
My brother told me that he was in a little village deep in Michoacán and every once and awhile the cartel would put up a sign stating to stay in the homes at night. It was some type of warning to the locals because things were going down that night and they didn’t want people not in the game to get caught up.
That is actually really kind of them to do. Honestly I wouldn't put it past them! Thank you so much for leaving this comment :-)
When I was in Ajijic on lake chapala in Jalisco a couple of years ago the residents who are mainly gringos and Canadians told me that 7 years prior there was a period of around 6 months where they couldn't go outside day or night because the cartel had taken over the area and the military had come in to fight them off. Some of the local business owners had to leave town because the cartels threatened to kill them and their families.
@@chasingtheAmericanDreamthe cartels do many acts of kindness to the locals like on mother's day they handout gifts to the mothers of the towns they control... because they want to pacify them. yup it’s customary it’s still bribery but everyone calls it una mordida (a bite)
Pls gringos dont come to mexico, USA citizens are the best clients of the narcos, stop consuming drugs and the cartels will disappear, dont make videos complaining just go back to your country gringo
once they see you’re Anglo they’re automatically gonna check you & keep checking you, you don’t come into these places & do whatever you want trust me
You have to be careful, but once you know how to identify them. You don’t have to give then money, they might keep you longer to scare you but they will let you go.
Over the past few years I'd spent a lot of time in Sonora visiting my brother while living in North Carolina. My boss would constantly ask me how horrible Mexico was, this and that. He never believed me when I told them I felt safer in Nogales than I ever did in Fayetteville, NC lol
Thank you SO MUCH for leaving your very valuable experience!
Yes you completely right here in Sonora (hermosillo) it feels more safe than LA,OREGON, NY, Detroit just to name a few were a ilve I can walk at wathever time in the night or morning and never have been assaulted or something yes there's is gun man and cartels but to be honest is more easy to be shot in USA. Cartels don't do nothing to you if you are a right person but yes some times they stole cars, trucks it happens on all the world like the Kia boys and there is some police that don't have any signs of they are popo call here "Madrinas" that are withe ram pickup trucks double cab tint windows they are like federal agents
@@kenny9506 excelente informacion! Gracias!
Tell that to the PhD student that went t Sonora recently to study plants and got shot 7 times for no reason. I will never step foot into Mexico.
@@calvindo2525 it was very sad. I can't speak on it but I can say that most of the time the story that we hear on the news is usually not complete or factual.
I’m Mexican and I won’t even drive to Mexico. Only flying to a resort. It’s way too dangerous.
Totally accurate, be careful out there just do what they say and you should be fine
What if they wanna traffic you and sell your liver and heart?
Sounds like an amazingly safe place to visit. 👌🏼
It really is!
@@chasingtheAmericanDreamHighest murder rates outside of war zones bud, for a long time.

You're too calm for this situation....I guess...if you don't fuck with anyone....no one will mess with you...😮😮😮😮😮
Well if you drive in those states. The narcos won't even notice you. My advice is that you have to be aware where do you drive and at what time
Them narcos don't really mess with civilians like they picture it as long as you mind your own you are ok they just looking for rivals
Right. For the most part if you just mind your business they are already just minding theirs.
Michoacan is a beautiful state just got back a month ago
It really is!😊
Michoacan has nicer roads than Michigan. 😂
They’re nicer than what you could expect honestly, they won’t do nothing to civilians as long as you didn’t do nothing
I am sure the 120.000 dead and around 27.000 missing civilians, since the drug war started in 2006, will agree with you. Not.
There was a group of 4 people that came across for medical procedure. All kidnapped and killed. So they won't do nothing unless they do something.
Yeah, they are only thieves and killers. But they seem nice...
Damm All I see is a brand new paved road! Mexico please help California build a highway that clean 😂
Remember, in Mexico only the government and the criminals have guns. While citizens can own firearms, the government makes it prohibitively difficult.
I drove about 20 miles down a desert highway in taumaplipas next to two white trucks with trailors full of armed guys in masks. Chained smoked the entire time and didnt look directly at them once. Passed without incidence, never been so terrified in my life. Tex plates too, stupid thing to do i know.
When you gotta travel you gotta travel lol.
“WHEN ur driving in mexico…”
never
One summer coming back from Mexico (mid 90s) we got pulled over by the federales and i remember my parents giving them two cartons of jumex.
Only 1 rule you need to know: Don’t go anywhere near Mexico
Long story short, be aware of your surroundings no matter where you go.
Excellent advice 💯
Cartel checkpoints are no joke. They probably won’t kill you or anything but it’s best to avoid driving down those roads. If you drive a vehicle that could be a use for them they will take it. They set checkpoints to try and stop rivals from moving product on their turf and if you are caught doing that then you’re definitely going somewhere not anywhere nice either.
The cartel won’t mess with tourists. If you are respectful of them, they will leave you alone.
Lies
If I was to go to Mexico it would be by plane and with a tour guide.
some guy not tony montana
Cartel wanna say hi to you
@@antiscyllisneocht5669 who’s tony Montana?
Those roads look so smooth.
Just the main highways. The rest of the country is dirt.
@@michaelmccarthy4615only rural towns
The toll roads are great!
Uncontrollable corruption is the Achilles heel of Mexico.
If you drive in Mexico have close air support👍🏻
I feel bad for those that have to deal with these evil men. God will get them eventually.
God doesn't do shit, if he cared, things would be better.
Usually the Mexican national guard will be doing checkpoints asking where you are going, also saw a lot of Mexican marines rolling around in a couple trucks but yes the government trucks are labeled.
Man, that road looks so smooth and comfy to drive on... Here in Dallas most of them are trash
Yes! The toll roads in Mexico are pretty good!!
Most roads in Mexico are horrible 😂😂 and most are dirt roads 😂
@@oscargalindo7920 yes, there are a lot of dirt roads the tollroads for the highways are usually very nice.
They wear regular civilian tennis shoes, sometimes. I mean, with military gear. Just be respectful and cooperate.
sometimes they will even fully impersonate government officials, always look for tennis shoes
When driving in mexico always keep in your car a framed picture of an abuelita (grandmother) , a rosary, a bible and an urn with ashes. If you get pulled over let the police or cartel know that you are coming back from a memorial service for your abuelita. They will leave you alone and often don't ask or collect the bribe.
That sounds like something that would work for a local or someone who is Mexican. But if a tourist tried that and the cartel found out they were lying it's not gonna be a good time. You're advising people to lie to the cartels 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
@@abnuridd24
I totally advise that you lie to the cartels.
Nice people, glad we have them in the US
This is not everywhere in Mexico.. my family drove on the highway 2 hours and not once did I see these things. People were just driving like normal
Fun fact, the police pull you over to report to the cartel who is in their area
Fun Lie. Show us the proof of this.
Corruption Index.
Yeah, this guy is correct.
@@Nightbird. fun life, you're living a lie if don't believe it. My source you ask? I live in Mexico
@@Nightbird.This is true, and cops are actually worse than cartels here, the cops demand bribes to let you go, usually the minimum they take is $500 pesos which is around $25 dollars, but they can ask for far more
The police are scum there. Easily bribed. I hope you stay safe
The best thing to do if your get pulled over by cartel members is to remain calm and tell them “peachy mary cone” in a assertive tone. They will send you on your way with no problem.
Peen-chay Mary cone
This means “fucking queer,” for those gringos who no habla espanol and are frantically searching for what to do while you’re being approached by the cartel
And "grassy ass" as you drive off
make sure you are also wearing your bulletproof vest when you do this
SO WRONG 🤣🤣😞
Especially if they are carrying ak's because the govt. does'nt use those
Any tips on avoiding checkpoints?
Avoiding?? Only to plan your route in advance and speak to those in the area using Facebook groups. The checkpoints are very common, especially on frequently traveled routes.
Avoiding Mexico at all costs, I would only go there to visit family but it’s a place I thank God I don’t have to live in, I left the country 10 years ago.
I'll have to remember this next time I decide not to go to Mexico. Never been much of a fan of being in any country where I don't speak their language anyway
That's why under any circumstances I practice the art of confusion. I usually ask "what seams to be the officer problem?"
The driver has HUGE biceps and shoulders. He can probably kick most cartel ass.❤
Have had issues with local police in Tijuana. Stop signs are portable on concrete blocks & hidden behind small trees so watch for that as well as being pulled over for driving too slowly after being flagged down ! They make you pay a cash “fine $20-40” so make sure you have some $ set aside from your real $ in a pocket for this so the fine doesn’t go up ! Also if you have a SUV local police & cartel members will want to steal it ! Check on where your car insurance covers & take a car you don’t mind getting stolen in worse case scenario!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I am so sorry that you had problems with the local police. Thank you for the tips
@@chasingtheAmericanDream no problem at all - you are providing important content - also advise that you let college kids know that they should not get drunk & out of hand in Mexico. Had a college friend who was being held for a $5,000 “penalty” (this will be far higher now as this was some years ago) for being drunk & believe fighting. We had to get a Mexican friend whose Uncle was senior in the Federalis to get him out.

Got to love those strict Mexican gun laws.

In an Ironic way those Cartels are also just Check Points, Cartels also understand that tourism is part of the economy. Its the smaller towns that people should worry about you actually need permission in order to get into villages or back roads.
Step #1: stay inside after dark
I think this is excellent advice no matter where you are in the world.
Step #2: go outside when not dark

Best way to stay safe driving in Mexico is getting on paid roads. They are heavily watched and guarded.
We call them here "Militares con tenis" o "soldados con tenis" literaly soldiers with sneakers, if you see an apparently looking soldier or even police but is wearing sneakers, its not police.
