  • Walking downtown Chicago in River North neighborhood in this sunny summer afternoon of June, I took delight in the charming architecture seen from my walking routes and the vibrant city vibes. I walked mostly North Clark Street, North LaSalle Drive, West Hubbard Street, and slightly North Franklin Street.
My walk started by a restaurant patio on Clark Street. As I walked on, I found restaurant patios were common along Clark Street, with guests or vacant. There were more people coming and going on Clark Street and LaSalle Drive than Hubbard Street. Elevated trains came and went along Hubbard Street between Wells Street and Franklin Street. Overall, the neighborhood radiated lively and livable atmosphere.
Retro buildings, many of which were probably older than 100 years, could be seen frequently. These seemingly obscure low-rise old buildings, in my opinion, are as beautiful and significant as skyscrapers in contributing to Chicago’s prominence in architecture.
I got two people greet my camera during this walk. I loved that!
