The National botanical garden in Vácrátót has the richest domestic collection of living plants. In the 27-hectare garden, nearly 13,000 species and varieties of plants are presented.
The dendrological collection presents the 3,300 shrubs, tree species and varieties that occupy most of the garden. In addition to the East Asian species, its outstanding value is the large number of maple, bangita, bird quince, linden and ash species.
The perennial and rock garden collection includes nearly 3,000 species and varieties. In addition to the rock plants, there are also many desert, forest, rare mountain plants and small bulbous flowers.
The taxonomic collection presents nearly 2,500 species of 90 plant families based on kinship and evolutionary aspects. The geometrically arranged garden section is enriched by a display of medicinal plants and herbs, as well as a bed of farm garden flowers.
The greenhouse collection includes nearly 3,000 species and varieties. The core material of the collection consists of cacti and other succulents, orchids and bromeliads, palms, and tropical useful and ornamental plants.
