Our simple but interesting life in the Philippine province of Surigao del Sur on the island of Mindanao. In the morning, the courier brought the package we ordered online. It's convenient. It turns out that you don't have to live near a big city with shopping centers. Now almost everything can be bought online with home delivery. Our house doesn't have running water yet, so we went with my husband to do the laundry at a spring. We have two springs here. From one people draw water and wash laundry, and from the other they boil water and drink it. When Boria was making a fire to scare away mosquitoes, he broke a rotten tree. A centipede and a scorpion crawled out of it. You have to be careful in the jungle.
We bought fresh coral colorful fish from our neighbors. It's interesting and beautiful. I've never seen one like it. There is a sharp spike, maybe it is even poisonous. Boria like to eat fish with the skin on, but here it feels like sandpaper.
In the afternoon, a family from America came to visit us. They were driving from Enchanted River, which is only a few kilometers from us. These are our subscribers and they wanted to meet us.
During the night, a tropical downpour started and uninvited guests came to our house. They were Filipinos who were riding a motorcycle and stopped to take shelter from the rain. We let them wait out the rain under the roof in our veranda gazebo.
The next day I had my first English class.

Don't trust anyone even the local neighbors of you. Nowadays we don't really know what they are for, even the nice person can hurt you. Always be careful to all the people you meet. Always lock your door whenever your going outside.

Allowing people to take shelter at night in your house is a kind act, but I believe it could put you in danger. Secure your fence; it's better to be cautious than sorry later.

Pls do not be so accommodating, you and your husband have some valuables and people can easily take advantage of you. Darlene you are the wiser one about Philippines, guide him and be very careful. Park your motorcycle where no one can see it from the street. Boris can fix the gate and put lock, entertain vendors and others outside the gate. Do not make it a habit to accommodate everybody except your own family.
To live in that kind of house along the road is not boaring but at night this two couple is very vulnerable to any kind of treat, kaya noong nasa probinsya pa kami ayaw nmin magbahay sa tabing kalye lalo walang ilaw at walang kapit bahay. iba na lalo panahon ngayon lalo na nasa social media sila alam ng mapag samantala ang meron kayo, sana maging ligtas sila palagi sa anumang sakuna.
Boris and Darlene please be careful with strangers. You can't be too naive and trusting with people you do not know. Just be cautious because if strangers see you are foreigner and nice it opens up an opportunity to take advantage of you even if at first they did not intend to cause harm. Also, you should seriously think of building your house higher up in your property, a good distance from the road. Demolish the covered shed because it invites strangers to sit and rest in your house. When your house is far from the road, people will not just take the liberty to use your veranda anymore. Take care and may God protect you and keep you safe.

You do not continually correct him, unless it is very necessary. I have witnessed that you even model the proper expressions without correcting him. By the way, I was born in Pangasinan and came to this country as a child. My Tagalog is poor, but I understand you when you speak Ilocano. We call pugot fish in La Union SUNGAYAN, (they are much better when they are bigger like as big as Boris palm) it's better to grill it so you can peel the skin off easily as it is not really good to eat because of the toughness
Anyway how nice that fresh fish is so available where you live I'm so jealous, Malaga fish is also very good and sure Boris will love it fried but I love it as paksiw hehehe

When you bought the "pugot" fish, the seller told you not go eat the skin of that fish. You should let Darlene talk to the people aeound. Please take care always.

You will need to build a wall around your home with a gate for privacy. I know that you are helping them with allowing them to be in your home but privacy is very important too. After all your home is your safe place and shouldn't be a bus stop for each and every one.

Maybe you can build a shed with roof beside your house so that other travellers will have a place to take refuge from the rain. But please lock your gate so that strangers cannot easily enter your property. It's admirable to be helpful to others but, it's better to be secure and safe especially in your own home. You need to secure your house make a strong fence with padlock or chain lock, and install Solar lights outside just in case of black out you still have security light outside.
Hospitality is good but you need to secure also your self especially during Night time.
Get solar lights posted around your house so your house is illuminated during brown outs.

The little hut very close to the street is typical of Filipino houses especially at the countryside. My parents are from Northern Luzon and it is typical as you drive on the highway. Maybe having a special box to store some tea and biscuits for when the strangers stopover in your porch in a storm. This way they remember your kindness and will always look out for you in the community.

Hello. I was so afraid with those strangers, too, not normal for them to do it. It's better for you to build a higher fence made of hollow blocks with a secured gate, in front and a little on the sides for a start just to block the view of your veranda from the road.

Watching from Manila. Boris get a fishing pole and go fishing, get big fish not small, let small fish live longer. Get electricity or generator it will help you during storm. Also, buy saw and hammer and help improve your house . Cut wood from forest and use it to improve your house. New subscriber here will be watching more vids.

I have been watching your vlogging from the very beginning. I surely enjoy watching them and I try not to miss any. You truly are a very sweet couple! Btw, I was born in Pangasinan and I am happily married (42 years) to a Polish guy. We have 3 children and we're residing in California, USA.
The suggestions of your followers are all very good: securing your house with locks and bolts and making your fence with hollow blocks and locking them at night or when you're not home; having an ample outside lightings (solar lights); having a dog or 2; and maybe transferring your veranda in the back of your house. The latter suggestion will deter outsiders from just inviting themselves to it. I have watched the video when Boris built the museum/house in Russia. He is a very good builder and an accomplish artist, too. I am very sure he can do it - he was able to build the museum/house. Then another very good suggestion of a follower is building outside your property, i.e., outside the fence a seating place like a "bangko" (bench) with a roof looking like the "bus stops" in other countries. You have a lot of bamboo trees, don't you? (And I also saw the video when Boris built some sort of chair or "bangko" in Pangasinan.) Safety is a priority! Sabi nga, "nasa huli ang pagsisi." Take care and I wish you both all the best. May you not change - staying sweet as you are.🥰🥰
