I used to work at the Rover dealer in Hemel Hempstead back in the early 90s and that's was incredibly rare model being an entry level 827. If you were in the market for the V6 powered car back then it was either the Sterling and Vitesse or at the very least an 827 SLi that was bought. The police and government were pretty much the main customers for this model. Excellent find mate just make sure you get that timing belt done asap!
For the windows to stop beeping you need to reset one touch system, hold each window button down fully until window is fully open and then repeat step closing. Easy fix. Wee bargain and sounds lovely. My dad had an 820 version years back 👍
That on the battery terminal was a early theft detterent/battery isolater I think they were called discarnect ? It allows enough current to keep the auxiliarys on but not enough to start it.
Absolutely a great find. Pretty rare to find a vehicle like this with low mileage and be able to just start it up like you did and just drive it for a 4 hour trip home .....amazing. Great video. Great car . Thanks for sharing the adventure!
Wonderful car a blast from the not so distant past, stunning old cars love the old school build quality, love the interior in stunning condition. Excellent episode please show more on this car. Thank you
Hi guys, my first time watching your videos and I might say I enjoyed and also can vouch for Colin, he is a trustworthy guy I have followed on his own videos. Just be sure though that Colin wears a bib, cause he has a habit to dribble on a car in some cases. The one thing you guy's overlooked was checking the horn, so many people forget to check this device and if your brakes fail this is the last option to exit. Go back and check.
For £600! Stole it from them 😊 Please look after it, this is an exceptionally clean example. I've got a mk1 and a mk2 Rover 800 Sterling, neither of them on the road yet so the more of these I see on the road the better! Congratulations on your amazing find 👌😊
Don’t rise to it no scrap man would scrap that it’d go on facey or eBay for closer to what it’s worth There’s no way it’s getting crushed like behave yourself
Little tip for a car that has sat for a while as oil inside would have mostly all dripped back down leaving dry areas an dry cylinder walls. Remove the fuel pump fuse an crack it for a couple seconds to get oil circulating, then put the fuse back in an fire it up.
I worked for Lucas Rists back in the 1990's where we made the wiring harnesses for these in our Egyptian plant. They were then shipped to Italy where they were left on the tarmac in their cardboard boxes to the elements for a few weeks. The poor quality of the Egyptian harnesses plus being left out in the elements didn't do them a lot of good. They were indeed basically good well appointed cars, but poor assembly and the then ARG's terrible reputation resulting from the earlier 800 series cars meant that the 75 series was doomed from the start.
I was just thinking the same thing. How on earth did this bunch of wallies get hold of this immaculate car. I don't believe it fired straight up without any fettling. What with modern garbage petrol turning to water within a few months (personal experience). I'm a old cynic I know but I never got a car this good without working my arse off for it.
The window beep is telling you the windows need resetting due to flat battery, open window and hold button until fully open then do the exact same thing holding the button until fully closed, then windows should no longer beep when operating after this, can’t remember if all windows should be one touch after this also ,hope this helps, what an amazing find👍
Very nice car! A little unknown to me , but Wikipedia says that we got it here from launch in the 80-ies in Norway🇳🇴 well. Probably not many, ‘cause I cannot remember seeing one in person. I could certainly have owned this particular one, it looks pristine 😍
Beep is because one touch up and down need calibrating. To do this. Fully open the drivers window and hold the window switch down until the beeping stops. Then close the windows and hold the switch until the beeping stops. Repeat with the other windows and with the sunroof.
25 years ago, I had an 8 to 7 sterling fast back, great car. Unless you’ve already found out, the beeping on the windows is because they need the one touch reset. Hold down Windau button to go all the way down hold for a few seconds and then press to go all the way up and it will sort out the beeping! 14:21
Not to mention, with no MOT and 30yr old tyres. Car deserved to be trailered away, then fully inspected, serviced and properly checked, with all the old consumables replaced. Maybe spend another £600 on it? and it’d last at least another decade. Also what’s with blocking an electric charging point? Soon moan if electric vehicles blocked the petrol pumps for 20mins wouldn’t they? Not big and not clever lads
Great episode what a super find - give it a machine polish and service and will be good to go. And yes / never buy a car from Birmingham or Bradford ( unless it’s a barn find 51k miles Alan Partridge execute V6 express ! I had a 2.0 turbo Vitesse 820 as company car around 96 and it was a surprisingly good car to drive quick with really good handling most un-Rover like to drive.
The wobble will be flat spots from sitting so long. Hope you don't get problems down the track from running it on stale fuel. I've seen cars that have sat only around three years destroy the fuel pump, filter, fuel rails, pressure reg, injectors, and cat from doing that.
First 8xx I’ve seen with a straight dashboard, my stepdad has an 827 sli fastback and it’s an amazing car. Nothing electric works properly but I like it.
I had to break into a garage last year and inside was a 1992 Escort LX, about 40 000 on it, one owner from new, parked up when the owner died in 2009, tyres still inflated, like new inside, it’s still there, I have been waiting to be told to go back so I can see if I can get it out, will chase that next week
That one you just got,I think it was the BMW engine in that model don't for get to change the belts I think that had a timing chain like the little 213 I had I would treat all down inside of the doors with know more rust and hydraulic oil then spray it all over under body wheel arches hydraulic oil is one of the best anti rust stoppers NEW OR OLD OIL BUD IT'S JUST AS GOOD GOOD LUCK 👍
First one of your videos I’ve seen and I have subscribed. Great car it must be the only one on the UK roads without dashboard lift. The only thing puzzling me is it’s a facelift 800 series with a pre facelift facia and it’s well into the run of the facelift cars. It would make an interesting addition if you can find out why and add it into your next video on this car
Thanks David. Glad to have you on the channel. I’m not sure about the pre facelift facia. I hope someone with the knowledge replies to that- I’d be interested to know!
all electric was owned by john S leek he owned a rover dealer ship in Harborne .. going back to the early 90s i worked there as an apprentice ... he used to pull up in his Aston martin volante vantage convertible and get me to wash it .. bit of a Dracula looking guy
Had a few rovers with Honda engines ! , 216 1.6 sli and 620 both went way faster than the book speed ! Even when scrapped lads took engine's for stock racing.
My first car was a rover 827i probably one of the few cars I would easily have again. 180hp Honda engine was a smooth as could be. recaro half leather interior, speed sensitive steering etc.
Good find!
Surprised that you are putting your sweaty body against the 'new' seat!
Put your shirt on or re-instate the seat cover....🤣
Please preserve this car. It is mint!
Hats off to the person who ordered this new. 827i. Base spec but with the V6. much better than a 2 litre 4 pot with all the toys!
But wheel trims ! My 820SLI even had alloys. Electric everything including sunroof and remote locking. And climate control.
Wow and this doesn't even have foglights
@@chrishart8548your SLi was two Specs up though from this 827i. Next was Si then your SLi Spec.
Now that is a rare piece of kit in this day and age.
Am I right that this is a Honda based edition?
@@shaunpc2512 based on a Honda legend but very badly assembled.
This needs to be in a museum!
No, it needs to be used.
That's an exceptionally nice Rover, lucky man.
Absolutely stunning car. Needs to be in a museum. Well done James
I’m extremely Jealous you’ve bought that for £600!! I would have loved it.

Definitely worth it. Possibly the best one left once it’s been cleaned

Great to see a bit of brit on the road again. I had a couple of rovers myself and loved them. Thanks for sharing
Love it, guys. What a find. 1995 feels like yesterday to me and this car in that condition is pure 90’s nostalgia. 😊
Absolutely amazing find unbelievable how that fired right up after 2 Years
13:20 Errm. Its so clean. Its so clean....So on the hottest day of the year ill go shirtless and give the seats their first sweat stains????
Not good. What were they thinking?
I’m no Rover fan by any means, but that is an absolute steal in anyone’s book.
Good grief, you beat me to it !. A new car for £600, what’s not to like ?. I remember that garage in Birmingham, i used to drive past it regularly.
That on the battery terminal was a early theft detterent/battery isolater I think they were called discarnect ? It allows enough current to keep the auxiliarys on but not enough to start it.
Sweet! What a unicorn 🦄
Awesome find! I remember making these in Cowley Oxford, the now Mini plant 👍🏻
Wow, the ultimate find at the right price. Amazing. I dream of such a find.❤
Wow. What a great find. Love the hubcaps!! Please preserve it!
Ran a 1995 827sli a number of years ago with 144k on the clock as a company car absolutely faultless Honda unit loved it!
That's got to be an FOTU contender next year, great find.
Absolutely a great find. Pretty rare to find a vehicle like this with low mileage and be able to just start it up like you did and just drive it for a 4 hour trip home .....amazing. Great video. Great car . Thanks for sharing the adventure!
Cheers mate glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, what a bargain and a lovely old, kinda new car.
A catalogue of mechanical incompetence here. But fair play for finding and rescuing it.
Such as?

9:14 beep beep. 🙂
These Honda engines are reliable. It’s the same engine as the Honda Legend.
Virtually identical apart from the badges.

Amazing and mega lucky find! That surely needs to be in a museum somewhere!

Surprised with the easy push, i thought the brakes would be seized on. 😅

The beeping is because the battery was flat . Put the windows all the way down and then back up again and they will reset and the beeping will stop
Congrats but also fantastic to see the citrown out and about in the sun just lovely 😍
I'm not a Rover fan but how on earth did you get that for the price ?? That is a rover enthusiasts dream
These rovers are garbage. Not even rear wheel drive. And so badly put together.

£600!!! SIX HUNDRED QUID??? Jesus Christ, it's immaculate. I paid more than that for four new tyres!
That is a lovely car amazingly preserved. It was only 600 quid???
That's incredible for £600!
Great video . Looks like a daily driver to me .
Surprised the head gasket hasn't gone.. 😂😂😂
Brilliant cars. I had a Rover Vitesse - 8 series 2.0 turbo. My dad had the rover sterling. Very underrated cars
What a find and I cant believe the previous owner kept it MOT'ed every year till 2021 it was litro doing 25 miles a year to the MOT sation and back
Scored there boys, well done. Cool car these days👍
What a great bargain please keep,it as it is.not many of these on the road now let alone how good this one is always loved the Rover 800s
