I think that is the same point Chief Ariyo was trying to make. Oduduwa is recognized by the Yorubas as their progenitor, if we say he was a Benin prince that would mean he is of Edo Origin, therefore an Olu whose mom is Yoruba is on the right track. He also tried to highlight the other side of the argument by historians, however he stated in conclusion that they all mean the same thing in this instance.

He visited traditional rulers across the country not just the ooni. It’s undisputed they share the same ancestor, so he has every right to visit. The only complication is the story of Oduduwa or Izoduwa. Nobody is forcing history on your throat. I am an Edo man and my allegiance is to the throne and whoever sits on it. Our history was not forced on us but passed down to us by our ancestors. Monarchs of Southern part of Nigeria before the arrival of Europeans are all related. @@teetee6366 it was a thank you visit after his coronation. He visited Olu of Warri, traditional rulers of river state, emirs, sultan, etc. not just Ife sir. Research properly. Like I said earlier, you’re not an Edo. It’s very obvious. You saying it was a fabricated story in 70s says it all. It has always been an oral history. You only get to hear it from Oba Eradiauwa because after invasion by the British, the kingdom was destabilized. The new entity called Nigeria was amalgamated after the death of Oba Ovonramwen in Calabar. The kingdom became part of western region and became toothless, voiceless and powerless. When Awolowo became premier of the western region, he wanted to unite all the kingdom in the region and told the then Oba to go learn Yoruba. The kingdom was subjected to a Yoruba premiere who wanted to unite the region under one Yoruba nation. All that ended with the creation of Midwestern region. Note; the word “Yoruba” was not used to address all the kingdoms of South West. The word was used to address people of old OYO by the Hausas and Fulani. Which is Yariba. There were different kingdoms and empires and Ife language was Edekiri. Ife remained a kingdom and Bini and OYO grown and became an empire. No ruler was addressed as Oba before, except Oba of Benin. There is no record of war between Ife and Igodomigodo. Do you think as strong as igodomigodo, an Ife Prince will come and rule without conquest if there were no relationship between the kingdoms?
It has always been an oral history in every home in Edo.

Mr man get your facts right pls, the kingdom has been in existence for over 500 without qualms. The 1979 proclamation that you ignorantly refer to is not law, it was done surreptitiously by a powerful and rich Ologbotsere for his selfish gains then. It was against established precedent and tradition of our people because there were great Olu's who reigned successfully that were maternaly neighter Edo nor Itsekiri. Olu Atuwatse (Dom Domingos) who was the first black African University graduate was born by a Portuguese mother, his son Oyenakpagha(Anthonio Domingo) also married a Portuguese and gave birth to the next Olu Omoluyiri who succeeded him, 3 generations had European mothers and there were others too . The Yoruba make up a large population of the Itsekiri Nation and you can't deny a people their inheritance out of selfishness. It is very bizarre many arguments I hear, from the titles mentioned I can interpret it as a Yoruba man, so are many titles from Beninland in the Yoruba language so then it means we are all from the same ancestors and I believe that they were not confused about many of these facts even till this day. I please urge all to listen better before reacting to other people's statements. The reason why we in the south are in this Nigerian mess today and why the North, British government, and other European allies, Americas are dividing and ruling us this way is lack of history, trust me they love the confusion and sentiments many of us have right now. It is not possible we are not related, even colleagues from other West African nations are related. One of the persons interviewed has a name exactly the same as my colleague. My colleague doesn't speak Yoruba but could be related to the Yoruba tribe by his ancestors I am very sure about it. Please we might have our differences but we are from the same ancestors.

Before a Yoruba man stepped in that land Idu Igodomigodo that is not called Edo state, the system of rulership in that land is the Ogisos, it was the Yoruba man from Ile Ife Oranmiyan that introduced Obaship. Now , OTU, OSI are all Yoruba word and those are titles you find in the Benin palace, although they are systematically changing all those name because of the pressure from the Ogisos descendants, Oselu is actually Iselu and it a Yoruba word. The Idumota, Idumagbo, IbiObalede are not titles rather names of places, now Before the very first Oba of Lagos who of course is pure Yoruba man too, we had the dejo chiefs sons of Ogunfuminire ( Olofins) who all migrated from Ile Ife, they already dwell in Lagos, intact it was Aromire that gave the sit for the very first Oba to might his throne. Likewise previous heads of Oba of Benin are buried Ile Ife, to tell you that their ancestor came from Ile ife, get a scientist to make forensic experiments on the remaining (body), your very first Oba of Benin Owomika that you corrupted to Eweka ( that is if one of your previous Obas have not ask people to throw them away in order to clean up evidence), and the heads buried in Ife also let forensics experiments should be carried out on any of the remains of the previous Ogisos to know If there is any link between the Ogisos and the Oba dynasty. I studied GNS in LASU a Lagos school and all you said here about the creation of Lagos is a FALLACY. Did you know that all those who claim to be Lagos indigenes are migrants. To the east Ijebus (they settled from Lekki to Epe) to the West are the Eguns and Aworis who came from Dahomey and Osun respectively (Settled from Badagry to Ido) from the Central are the Binis and the European slave returnees, to the North are the Ondo's and the Egbas who took abode in the Ikeja, Lagos Mainland axis.
OBA is not a Yoruba word. The word was mainly adopted by Lagos kings who took likening for the name from the Oba of Lagos forgetting that the Oba of Lagos being a direct descendant of the Benin king Prince Ado son of the Oba of Benin. The kings in Ijanikin, Akowomjo, Iba, Ikorodu etc all adapted the title and it became viral across Yoruba land. The Yoruba word for king is KABIYESI and OBA is a Benin word for King, this is why in Yoruba land they have the Alaafin of Oyo and not the Oba of Oyo, they have the Awujale of Ijebu Land and not the Oba of Ijebu land, they have the Ooni of Ife and not the Oba of Ife, they have the Akarigbo of Remo land, Olubadan of Ibadan, the Alake of Egbaland, Alara of Ilara-Mokin
Olota of Ota, Olowo of Owo, Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Orangun of Ila Orangun, Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom... ETC.
At these times past only the Oba bore Oba until the Lagos kingship started.

@@brandiator-io hahaha you are using GNS to brag. Now here is your assignment, go make research about Olofin Ogunfuminire and his origin, also make research on the following, Aromire, Ijora, Onikoyi, Elegushi, Oniru, Oloto, Olumegbon.
Now Kabiyesi, Oba, Iba is Yoruba words 100% before the reign of Oduduwa, there were kings in Ife, such as Obatala, Obalufon, Obaluaye etc. Ogisos never knew the word called Oba or ever used it as king until a Yoruba man came into that land. If you don't know, the word YORUBA is even a new word that Ajayi crowther used to Unify Omokotunjire, so prior before that time to identity their domain, they used words like Aalafin ti Oyo, Awujale to Ijebu, Alake ti Egba, Olowu ti Iwo, Akirigbo ti Remo, Onisabe, Alaketu and the reason while Oba Benin was called Oba of Benin was because he never had a free place to establish his kingdom because they were people who are aborigines to that land and this are the Idus, and Oranmiyan saw the trouble he faced and left the land, Eweka the first never even had a solid palace that was why their heads had to be taken back to Ile Ife, if that mode of transportation was faster and easier them, their full corpse would have being transported back to Ile Ife and buried their but due to the stress and time they will spend on the road, they intend to take only the heads of previous Oba, go to Ile Ife you will see the site till date, this are pure and visible evidence, even this current Oba Of Benin visited that place when he when to Ile Ife.
What makes us Yorubas is our language, culture, traditions, norms and value system, if a Yoruba man from Ife speaks, a Yoruba man from Ijebu, Awori, Sabe and Ketu in Benin Republic etc will understand. Ile Ife birthed Benin kingdom that is pure historic fact. The Ogiso never even crossed their villages talkless of forming an empire, it was the kingdom that a Yoruba man formed in in that land Benin kingdom became an empire.
Finally go make research about the Usen Origin, I will be waiting for your reply

Probably he was from the few families who objected to the creation of Midwestern region from the Western region. Because they said then that they were from Yoruba. So, why is he now fighting for the throne his family said they were not a part of.
Secondly, he has misinterpreted the OBA of Benin statement on the origin of the Bini people, and including his people for his personal aggrandizement.
Thereby, trying to seek support from the Yoruba against his people. And even if it meant falsifying the great bini empire history of which he has no knowledge about.
The man is very frivolous and can say anything to stay relevant. Unfortunately, he is doing it at the expense of his people along with rubbishing the great bini empire.
