The story with your dad was cool!! I was a Theology student in college and was asked to do a sermon in my home church. The pastor said the topic was up to me but wanted it to reach some of the teen parishioners. I chose to do a sermon hope and making you own changes. The congregation looked puzzled as I walked to the pulpit with my boom box and cassette tape set it down and pushed play. It was early 1985. I played the opening to Lets Go Crazy by Prince and started into a sermon on God being the button when the elevator of life got you down. I was kinda scared of what the reaction would be. The kids LOVED it. The older parishioners thought the message was good and wanted to know who the artist was and the name of the album. Lol. I simply suggested that was a question they should ask their kids. Lol. Yes I was afraid the would buy the album an then hit the song Darling Nikki. Thank you for bringing back this memory it's made my day. Btw I now work for an architect never did become a minister
Saw J. Geils 3 times and prefer their 1970's work. 'Live Full House' is a great live recording, one of my favs to this day. Was never much of a 'Freeze Frame' fan, feeling 'Love Stinks' is a much better album throughout. That said, I'm glad the band was able to gain some commercial success and earn some bread; they were as hard-working as it gets and deserved it!
My favorite album's were the two live ones and Monkey Island and Sanctuary. I have gone to a few of their live concerts after 2000 and it is interesting to note that they play only their Atlantic released songs and none of their EMI released songs.
I loved this song. I saw the band open for the Rolling Stones on October 9, 1981 in Los Angeles during their Tattoo You Tour. The bill included Prince, J. Geils, George Thurogood and the Stones. What a day!
My best friend Rick introduced me to this band in the early 70’s. We saw them live twice, once in New Haven, CT and Foxborough, MA. Fantastic performers, energetic and electrifying. These guys knew how to rock the house/stadium. RIP J. Geils!!
So jealous! I unfortunately never got to see them live. But always a fan 'love stinks' was my introduction then I went on the hunt for their albums! Much to my surprise the guy I was dating had those albums, needless to say I married him and we rocked together until his untimely death, 2 beautiful children and thousands of albums, a musication (musical education) absolutely wonderful memories, is what he left me with. So thank you Steve for everything! Thank you professor for all you do for the Rockers, the memories you evoke. Love watching & remembering the good stuff! Keep up the great work Professor!
Peter Wolf is one of the best front men in Rock history. They played for 15 years before the Centerfold/Freeze Frame era, which broke the band up. That one that got away from me as far as getting to a concert of theirs. The stuff before “Centerfold” is their best. Listen to “Blow Your Face Out Live” if you want an experience.
I was in JR HIGH SCHOOL when this album was released. Centerfold was played multiple times a day on the radio and of course when the video came out I was immediately hooked. It’s still a great song along with Freeze Frame that will never get old.
I was in the 3rd grade & I recall the release quite clearly. I grew up in a roller rink, so that's why I was always onto the newest & biggest hits. I've also been a guitarist since I started junior highschool.
I busted out in rock music in church myself. When I was four, my father the church pastor said, let us all sing Joy to the World, so I took a deep breath and broke into JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROM. My mother reached over and gently held my hand and said "no, the other one." I was disappointed, but switched songs.
Glad to see that they indeed pulled through to get the recognition they got as a result of their musical talent. It's a great song, simply put. Cheers!
It's funny to see the rest of the country's take. I lived in the Boston area and J Geils was just simply always there. "Must of got lost" is still in heavy rotation. It wasn't uncommon to see Peter Wolf in a bar hanging out.
I was in sixth grade when _Freeze Frame_ came out, as well as _Shake It Up_ by The Cars. I have always associated the two groups with each other since then. The J. Geils Band songs, "Centerfold" and "Freeze Frame," and The Cars tunes "Shake It Up" and "Since You've Gone." ("I can't help it, everything's a mess, I can't help it, you're so treacherous. . . when it comes. . . to tenderness.")
'They don't want me paralyzed, they just want me neutralized...' I couldn't get enough of Freezeframe back in the day. on a side note, if your band needs a hit, you can't go wrong with this title: 'Since you've been gone' (by The Cars, The Outfield, Rainbow, and Kelly Clarkson)
@@robertwiles8106 I loved Foreigner 4... mostly because I thought Jukebox Hero was beyond amazing! I will never forget where I was when I heard that song (and also the rerelease of Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman on the same bus. It's another fantastic song). I was on a school bus on the way to IL state choir/singing competition in the spring of my 8th grade year. (1982) I heard those 2 songs and they have stayed with me as special, all these years later, especially Jukebox Hero!
There are only a handful of songs I’ve ever heard the first time and fell in love immediately. Centerfold was definitely one of them. This 14-year-old kid heard the song and bought Freeze Frame the next day. Still one of my all-time favorites.
Anyone else remember watching this video on VH-1's pop up video? I think my favorite fact I learned was that a crew member watched the milk in the snare drum for two hours to ensure it was perfect for the shot 🤣 definitely a catchy song I remember well from childhood. Thanks, Professor 🙏
Martha Quinn was allegedly one of the girls dancing in the lingerie in the video but she has denied it and the video Director said she was not part of the shoot
Centerfold is such a great piece of ear candy. Freeze Frame has some really great songs on it. The early MTV era played Centerfold and Freeze Frame to death. You can still here them today on your favorite classic rock station. I saw The J.Geils band open for Bob Seger probably 6 or 7 years ago and they still cooked. Peter Wolf is a hell of a front man. Thanks again for another great video, Adam!
As a Primary Chorister (what my faith calls the person who teaches the music to the children) for over 40 years, this is the very BEST story I have ever heard. I laughed out loud until tears were running down my face! Had I been your teacher, I’d have admitted that I liked that song as well, but perhaps not in church. Thank you for sharing that story! I haven’t laughed so hard in a hot minute!
You know the one about the new Pastor and song leader who weren't getting along? The Pastor preached on tithing. The song leader led the choir in "Jesus paid it All" The Pastor then preached on gossiping. The song leader led the choir in "I Love To Tell The Tale" Finally the Pastor got so frustrated he decided to resign. He said "Jesus brought me here and now he's talking me away" The song leader then led the choir in... "What a Friend we have in Jesus" 🤣❤️🙏
A band that came out of nowhere here in the UK. Huge hit and I loved this back then. Freeze Frame did fairly well too but, as you say, they just disappeared
One of the gems from Love Stinks is No Anchovies, Please, a vastly underrated cut. Their live album, Blow Your Face Out, also helped them gain in popularity. Their live version of Musta Got Lost is, still, one of their top songs and shows( Along with No Anchovies Please) Peter Wolf’s gift for ad libbing. They, also, did another live version of Nothin But a House Party in the movie Neighbors II. I remember them fondly, as our cross country team played Live: Blow Your Face Out on the way to and from every meet during the summer of 78, before my senior year of high school.
Dude, you mentioned your dad asking you " Do you know what this song means?" re: Centerfold. It made me think of that popular kids band ( that I can't remember the name of right now) with three young boys as the band and a young girl singer who played the Kansas state fair and such and cut remakes of some popular songs by adult artists. And although being SO young they played Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. What do you think about such young children professionally playing a song with such lyrics?
I like your story. The first time I heard Centerfold was actually at Church. I was in the parking lot with a group of other guys and the house across the street had it blaring out from the window. I remember thinking I've got to find out who sings this song. The next day at school I started asking my friends that knew music better than me and when they told me I went out and found the album that weekend. Just recently I heard the song on the radio and I turned it up and told my son I bet you can't go the rest of the day without this song in your head. He was humming it the rest of the day! Thanks for a great memory!
I never tire of hearing you narrate about the songs and your dad. It brings happy tears to my eyes and Reminds me that there are some simples pleasures left to enjoy! Thank you for sharing your love of music with us ❤
That was such a great time in my life! I used to stay up late watching music videos on the weekends and this was one of my favorite ones to watch, I really miss those days.
The live version of “I Must of Got Lost” with the long introduction tearing into that rollicking great song is so great. It never fails to put a smile on my face. “Ubba Gooba with the green teeth”. I love it.
I have the cutest story about Centerfold, years ago I used to have my nephew alot and would hear it alot in the car.. so I noticed him singing one day, he was singing “my angel’s on a cellphone “ 😂😂 so I never corrected him and just sang it with him his way, I STILL use his lyrics! Edit: your story is so cute too Adam! 😂
Peter Wolf opened for The Who in Philadelphia in May 2019. He opened with "Ain't Nothin but a Houseparty." It was great to see him live! I couldn't hear the announcement of Peter Wolf as the opening act, but once he started singing, we knew it was him.
I saw J Geils Band three times throughout their career. These guys were one of a few bands that sounded as good live as recorded. They could, within a few songs into their show, have the crowd standing and dancing and having fun. Shalom
J Geils was one of my favorite bands back in the day. I went and saw them twice at Pine Knob outside Detroit in the 80's. Their shows were huge parties! Everyone up dancing and making new friends. Love the J Geils band!!
Centerfold! The song that i finally got me to learn how to whistle. I listened to it over and over and over again. Drove my mother nuts, because I kept trying to whistle the melody with the tune, and had headphones on.
Adam, every story you share about your dad makes me smile. Have you ever considered writing a book about your connection with your dad and how that connected you with the music you love? Or a book with all your fun personal stories and your musical journey? I would read that in a heartbeat, and others would, too!
Love Stinks is my favorite of theirs. Centerfold and Freeze frame were right up there with the rest of their best, but Love Stinks "must've got lost" when it came to making everyone else's list of favorites.
I'm from Rochester NY and "Freeze-Frame" is the theme song for our local pro hockey team the Rochester Americans! I've never heard it confirmed but I believe that the reason for that is because Rochester is the home of Kodak and obviously hockey is played on ice.
I grew up listening to Freeze Frame and then never gave J Geils a second thought. When I picked several of their early albums last year, it was a revelation. Such a great band!
I saw the J. Geils Band supporting The Rolling Stones at my first ever concert in Newcastle England, June 23rd 1982. 3 days before my 14th birthday, it was awesome still remember it to this day amazing experience. The video was amazing too.
They toured America in ‘81 and I saw them in the Kingdome in Seattle which was known for terrible sound and acoustics. They put on the most amazing show.
Freeze Frame was the first rock record I ever got. I begged my mom to get it for my 10th birthday. She was reticent to get it because of the song " Piss On the Wall" but relented. I still consider it the best present I ever got and played the whole album to death. I still have my copy 40 years later.
Here's an interesting piece of trivia: Peter Wolf was David Lynch's college roommate at School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. And in true twisted David Lynch fashion it was David Lynch that requested a different roommate because he thought Peter Wolf was too weird.
...HA-HAAA!! ...I FORGOT about "POTWall"!! ....wasn't that like, a MINUTE!? ...I gotta pull that CD out, but it's behind a VERY large stockshelf, and I have to 'feed' me Arm through, to get to it....wish me LUCK....
I just moved to a new state and started high school when this blew up. I remember Journey got on the airwaves ALOT at the same time. Memories, Professor!!!
Love The J. Geils Band. They were one of the standout stories in music during 1982. Their music was fun new wave pop/rock. I bought their breakthrough album Freeze Frame. Both the title track and Centerfold are terrific songs and personal favorites of mine. 1980's music at it's very best. After the disco era ended sometime in 1981, new wave became my new favorite music genre.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 I agree with you. That is an excellent way of looking at it.. So many songs that are categorized as new wave you can definitely hear elements of disco and its influence. The songs you mentioned are great examples.
There was a time where it seemed like that song was "everywhere", it was played a LOT in my area growing up...and yes, I TOO bought the album! Seth was my favorite! Another good analysis Adam!🤘Dude..."Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" In church?!? 😆 I was a teen then, I'm a minister now, you sound like you were a cool/neat kid!👍🏻😉👌🏼

I saw the Freeze Frame tour at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, as a green 14 year old kid. Peter Wolf was a superb frontman, and that gig was like one huge party. I'll never forget Seth Justman's huge white Leslie speaker cabinets spinning away. It was the first time I heard the smokin' "First I Look At the Purse." For me the Freeze Frame album was right there with Journey's Escape and REO Speedwagon's High In Fidelity as some of my entry-level albums.
As a 7 year kid, I wore out 3 copies of this album because of Centerfold. I still have to listen to the full song if I hear it on the radio. I still love it as much today as I did then.
J. Giles band played New Year’s Eve, in Worcester, MA, at the “Centrum”. They even hired the Red Sox Fenway Park Organist to perform during the union break. I was there . Twice.
Great job Professor, this is another song that brings back so many memories for me, especially watching the video on MTV- and I just love your cute personal stories that go along with the episodes- you always brighten my day! I have a cute personal memory about the song "Centerfold"; my mom used to sing it to me in a cute way when i was a little girl and say it was my song bc i was the most beautiful girl she'd ever seen and make me feel so special! Anyway, good job covering another awesome song. I also have to comment on your really cool T-shirts that you wear for the show- i know some of them are your own merch and ones that youve had made but you have just about the greatest collection of T-shirts ive ever seen a you tube host wear! You have every band, every singer, it's so inpressive- i often wonder where you've purchased them...im sure some were from concerts but im sure you couldnt have been to that many - or maybe you were! Please let me- let us know- did u get some at vintage stores? How did u get so many cool T- shirts? Its another thing about you that makes you the best and coolest host of the best you tube channel there is! Keep up the good work and dont stop suprising fans like me with wonderful facts and material like this! I love you! Xox ❤✌️🎵😘 rock on!😉
I have seen just about every American band live in the 80's. The most rewarding for me was J Geils, Rush and Kiss. All for different reasons. Geils was the definition of cool. I can tell my kids that I was in the crowd for their last live album.
This song brings me back to 6th grade. Love your story Adam! I was 4 years old and my mother had me in the child seat in the grocery shopping cart. I started singing the chorus to Fifty Ways by Paul Simon. It was the last song I heard in the car before we went into the store. My mother was shocked I had learned this song so quickly and was singing so everyone around us could hear.
I talked to one teacher at my school who remembers the J. Geils Band very well from her high school days. That chorus to 50 Ways is so infectious! “Hop on the bus, Gus! You don’t need to discuss much!”
@Anna Trail Doing well. We are getting ready for the holidays at the store. Haven't been buying any new records. Trying to be happy with what I have. I have been watching a channel called Historic Travels because he has videos about the Titanic. He is a good story teller and shows pictures and diagrams to explain things. My grandma's brother died on the Titanic. He was 17 and trying to emigrate to America. I also like learning about the other ships too.
I think this song stuck in my mind and on my lips so many times over the years that Adam is right, it is catchy and it was part of my growing up in the '80's for sure. Great memories for this one.
I saw them in Toronto open for Heart and the Who. Huge sports arena never saw nothing like it. So many people. Was 21drove up from Rochester NY crossing borders easy back in 1981. Still remember like yesterday. Now wheelchair bound but keeps me going. Thanks
Oh, you forgot to mention the song "Come Back!" It was the highest charter off their Love Stinks album, hitting #32 on Billboard. I bought the album because of that song.
Thing I love about Centerfold, is it encapsulates the image of some dude in a bar telling this story over a beer while some rugby team is celebrating in the background. The whole na na na part feels like a drunken chant. I love a song that comes with it's own set piece like that.
I saw them at a Day on the Green in Oakland, CA during the Love Stinks tour and I went out and bought that album and loved it. Wasn't that a young Martha Quinn in the Centerfold video?
Centerfold was an awesome song. When it came out there was a girl in junior high with me who had a fuzzy blue sweater she would wear that always reminded me of this song. I told her about it at our 30th class reunion and she thought it was hilarious. My only regret is that it kept Journey "Open Arms" from ever reaching number 1.
As big as this album was and it was, I think that their previous album, Love Stinks, set the tone for future success. I realize they'd been around for quite a few years but it wasn't until, Love Stinks, that they came into my orbit. As for, Freeze Frame, it was an absolutely astounding album. To this day, Centerfold, gets me going.
I agree, and the song Come Back may have helped them see the success a little synth might bring. It may not have been a huge hit but I loved hearing it the few times I saw it on MTV.
I fell for the band with "Love Stinks". The video of the song was played before every performance of Rocky Horror Picture Show every Friday night in St. Louis. Crowd loved the video and the song. After I married my high school Sweetheart, we moved to Dallas in '82. J. Giles played in an arena in Ft. Worth. Saw the band while pregnant wife stayed home. Fantastic concert. Brought back great memories of all those Friday nights. Great concert. Thank you.
I had heard about them before Freeze Frame. I had a couple of their early albums. But that was the tour I got to see them. Was a great show in Houston. April 1982.
My dad is a huge J.Geils fan. They used to play in Detroit a lot way back in the day and he would never miss a show. I grew up listening to them Peter Wolf is an underrated frontman. His opening monologue to the live version of Musta Got Lost is classic. "Open the door b*tch it's the whoopa goopa with the green teeth...! What's the name of that chick with the long hair?"
Before J Geils passed in 2017, things got rather ugly in that I guess the rest of the band wanted to go back out on the road, but J Geils told them that they couldn’t use the name “ J Geils Band “ on the tour. He was so adamant about it that he threatened to sue the rest of the band if they even attempted to use the name. This was in 2014-15 and it wasn’t too long after that that Geils passed away.
the freeze frame video was one of my favorites on early mtv..I remember borrowing the cassette tape from another kid in my 2nd grade class because I liked it so much..

What a day!
Was that the show when Prince got booed?
Saw this same lineup at Candlestick Park (minus Prince) same tour. Damned good show.
Dang! Looks like I'm *Banned* Again!
I saw that tour at the Kingdome in Seattle that year. I think it was in August.
Damn! you saw those infamous Prince shows.
My best friend Rick introduced me to this band in the early 70’s. We saw them live twice, once in New Haven, CT and Foxborough, MA. Fantastic performers, energetic and electrifying. These guys knew how to rock the house/stadium. RIP J. Geils!!
Nice!!! They’re really great live.
Toads Place ?

Nice post.
Sorry for the loss of your husband, and father of your children.
Keep rockin, it’s what keeps our blood flowing.
Grew up 15 minutes from Foxboro, saw J. Geils on New Years Eve in the Boston Garden in the early or mid 80s. WOW!
I’m from Detroit and The J. Geils band were huge there, great live band.
"Blow your Face Out" featuring Repuda the Beauda!
He has so much energy and I just have a genuine crush on the guy. Love Stinks is my favorite song from them.
One of the best live albums ever…Sanctuary is awesome too but not live..
Agree, Peter Wolf, great front man!
WAMMER JAMMMER DICKIE LET ME HEAR YA.!
Your dad seemed very wise. Teaching you, without berating you. My dad was like that too. We were both very blessed. Love your channel
My junior year prom date ended up being Miss July 1992. I literally lived this song.
I was in JR HIGH SCHOOL when this album was released. Centerfold was played multiple times a day on the radio and of course when the video came out I was immediately hooked. It’s still a great song along with Freeze Frame that will never get old.
It’s such a memorable video.
I had the album and was disappointed. For me, the only good songs were the first three.
I was in the 3rd grade & I recall the release quite clearly.
I grew up in a roller rink, so that's why I was always onto the newest & biggest hits. I've also been a guitarist since I started junior highschool.
Me, also. I was in Jr High when Centerfold came out.
I was 18 , when Freeze Frame was released
Love J Geils, one of the most underrated bands ever!!
...AAAAAAAAAAND HOW!
No doubt in my mind, whammer jammer let me hear you now!!
They’re so amazing!
The 80's wouldn't be the same without them.
105.9FM 📻 in Orlando FL area plays J Geils often. It will NEVER die! Lol....
Both hits off this album were pure roller skating GOLD!
Cool
As a harmonica player I've always loved their song Whammer Jammer
Glad to see that they indeed pulled through to get the recognition they got as a result of their musical talent. It's a great song, simply put. Cheers!
It's funny to see the rest of the country's take. I lived in the Boston area and J Geils was just simply always there. "Must of got lost" is still in heavy rotation. It wasn't uncommon to see Peter Wolf in a bar hanging out.
For sure.
Shake it Up is one of my favorite songs of the 80s. Since You’re Gone is awesome too!
'They don't want me paralyzed, they just want me neutralized...'
I couldn't get enough of Freezeframe back in the day.
on a side note, if your band needs a hit, you can't go wrong with this title:
'Since you've been gone' (by The Cars, The Outfield, Rainbow, and Kelly Clarkson)
It was the era of Billy Squier, Ghost in the Machine and Foreigner 4. The halcyon days.
@Sub if you are against antifa and BLM No, that was before we had MTV.
It’s a song that immediately captivated you.
That’s a wild fact! 😉
An iconic moment in video history!
The milk splashing up was awesome!
1982 the year I graduated High School. Wow I remember this music like it was yesterday.
Saw them in '82 at Memorial Coliseum in Portland. Greg Kihn Band opened the show. It was awesome!
They were hugely popular in Detroit and their 3 hour concerts legendary. One of my favorite bands of all time.
I knew them from Must have Got Lost. I think they always had the formula, just took people a while to catch up.
Thanks Dave!
....Loved Peter Wolf's Solo CD....loved IT! ....even paid a cool $100 bucks for the longboxed CD.....OUCH! ...ha-HAA!
I saw them open up for bob seger in 2014 also and they were really awesome
I believe he was a DJ in Boston in the early days and developed his talking style there.
I too saw them on the Bob Seger tour, in Buffalo NY IIRC.
The song leader led the choir in "Jesus paid it All"
The Pastor then preached on gossiping.
The song leader led the choir in "I Love To Tell The Tale"
Finally the Pastor got so frustrated he decided to resign. He said "Jesus brought me here and now he's talking me away"
The song leader then led the choir in...
"What a Friend we have in Jesus" 🤣❤️🙏
That was a hilarious story, wasn’t it?
I still think that Peter Wolf's solo single "Lights Out" is a top contender for 80s hidden gem!
I love Lights Out. Adam should cover that one someday.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 agreed!
Wow man I havent thought of that in years...time to hit spotify and listen to it again
J Geils band had me early with Full House and Bloodshot albums, great energy and music. Always liked their music..🍺😎
A band that came out of nowhere here in the UK. Huge hit and I loved this back then. Freeze Frame did fairly well too but, as you say, they just disappeared
It’s sad, because I love Peter Wolf’s solo song “Lights Out” as well.
I guess that's why we have the professor. To show us that "a band that came from nowhere "actually had a long road to travel
Completely forgot about No Anchovies Please! Thanks for the memories!
I remember how everyone in my class was listening to this song. The tune was an anthem for the time. It was the ultimate sing-a-long!
The ultimate sing-a-long is exactly right! It's undeniable!
It’s so infectious! I ALWAYS sing along to it every time.
Thank you for sharing your love of music with us ❤
I was in middle school when this came out and absolutely loved Freeze Frame and Flamethrower.
Great ones.
That was such a great time in my life! I used to stay up late watching music videos on the weekends and this was one of my favorite ones to watch, I really miss those days.
Blast from the past! I had this album and loved it. Unfortunately, they get overlooked often. Thanks for covering them!
Thanks for listening
The live version of “I Must of Got Lost” with the long introduction tearing into that rollicking great song is so great. It never fails to put a smile on my face. “Ubba Gooba with the green teeth”. I love it.
I have the cutest story about Centerfold, years ago I used to have my nephew alot and would hear it alot in the car.. so I noticed him singing one day, he was singing “my angel’s on a cellphone “ 😂😂 so I never corrected him and just sang it with him his way, I STILL use his lyrics!
Edit: your story is so cute too Adam! 😂
I was around that age before cellphones, for me it was "Angel in a Circle"
Another piece of underrated music was Peter Wolf's solo effort lights out
Dancing In The Dark (to the radio of love).
Such a great song!
Peter Wolf opened for The Who in Philadelphia in May 2019. He opened with "Ain't Nothin but a Houseparty." It was great to see him live! I couldn't hear the announcement of Peter Wolf as the opening act, but once he started singing, we knew it was him.
Ooooh!
Me too.
Saw the SHOWTIME! concert in 82'.
I can pick my friends voice out from the audience on the album.
🙂✌️❤
That would have been awesome. The band and the venue are great. It was always Pine Knob, never called it DTE lol.
My girlfriend's brother introduced me to live J Geils in 1979. first I look at the purse, serves you right to suffer, whammer jammer, etc. Loved them.
Centerfold! The song that i finally got me to learn how to whistle. I listened to it over and over and over again. Drove my mother nuts, because I kept trying to whistle the melody with the tune, and had headphones on.
excellent - good call!
I remember them playing Love Stinks on one of the late shows like Saturday Night Live. Need to find that one on YT if it’s there.
That’s my favorite of theirs too.
I'm from Rochester NY and "Freeze-Frame" is the theme song for our local pro hockey team the Rochester Americans! I've never heard it confirmed but I believe that the reason for that is because Rochester is the home of Kodak and obviously hockey is played on ice.
Sounds apt!
Two legendary bands!
Same age. I bought it at Hills. My Mom had the same concern but also with the Centerfold lyrics
Here's an interesting piece of trivia: Peter Wolf was David Lynch's college roommate at School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. And in true twisted David Lynch fashion it was David Lynch that requested a different roommate because he thought Peter Wolf was too weird.
I got in trouble bringing the Freeze Frame album to school in 2nd grade as it had the song Piss On The Wall on it 🤣. Damn these guys ruled!!!!
...HA-HAAA!! ...I FORGOT about "POTWall"!! ....wasn't that like, a MINUTE!? ...I gotta pull that CD out, but it's behind a VERY large stockshelf, and I have to 'feed' me Arm through, to get to it....wish me LUCK....
“Devil music.” My school has never criticized me for listening to songs like this!
I truly love it when you share stories about you and your dad. Ty Professor.
I just moved to a new state and started high school when this blew up. I remember Journey got on the airwaves ALOT at the same time. Memories, Professor!!!
Great Dad moment to cherish ❤
Love The J.
Thanks Stephen. A lot of New Wave was inspired by Disco. I find that more all the time.
@@ProfessorofRock I learned this from watching the BBC series, The History of Top of the Pops. Definitely worth tracking down.
@@ProfessorofRock Had the 8-Track! This was 1985 of course, but still had as much fun as everyone else!
I am so hardcore that I’d even go as far to say that disco BECAME new wave. Proof: “Pop Muzik” by M or “Heart of Glass” by Blondie.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 I agree with you. That is an excellent way of looking at it.. So many songs that are categorized as new wave you can definitely hear elements of disco and its influence. The songs you mentioned are great examples.
I love this song! It’s so catchy! Just makes you smile when you hear it!
There was a time where it seemed like that song was "everywhere", it was played a LOT in my area growing up...and yes, I TOO bought the album! Seth was my favorite!
Got to see J. Geils Band when they opened for the Rolling Stones at Candlestick Park.
After graduation in Utah, I moved to Boston....J.Giles was a band that made Boston proud!
Your story of singing Centerfold
in church is hilarious!! 😂
As a 7 year kid, I wore out 3 copies of this album because of Centerfold. I still have to listen to the full song if I hear it on the radio. I still love it as much today as I did then.
I was also 7 when Freezeframe came out. First album I memorized all the lyrics to and in February of '82 was my first concert.
J. Giles band played New Year’s Eve, in Worcester, MA, at the “Centrum”. They even hired the Red
Sox Fenway Park Organist to perform during the union break.

Very true.
Even more true.
LOOOOOVE them!
They were played on the rock station in my area a lot before and after Centerfold. They were great!
My mother was shocked I had learned this song so quickly and was singing so everyone around us could hear.
....WELL, "....I knew a Girl named Nikki, I guess you could say she was a S-x fiend..." , didn't go so smoothly with me GRANNY! ...ha-HAAA!!

Peter Wolf and David Lynch (the famous film director) were roommates in college - that fact always amazes me
I think this song stuck in my mind and on my lips so many times over the years that Adam is right, it is catchy and it was part of my growing up in the '80's for sure.
Come Back is probably my favorite J. Geils Band song!
Good song!
I was wondering if someone was going to mention "Come Back." It's my favorite.
Great song.
Yes! Come Back, and Flame Thrower are their two barn burners.
It was not her, but rumors certainly swirled around it!

Centerfold was an awesome song. When it came out there was a girl in junior high with me who had a fuzzy blue sweater she would wear that always reminded me of this song. I told her about it at our 30th class reunion and she thought it was hilarious.
My only regret is that it kept Journey "Open Arms" from ever reaching number 1.
....oh YEAH! ...forgot about that, THANKS for remindin' me.....

When this song came out my mom had a crush on this boy in junior high who looked just handsome.
Thank God. Most over-played rock ballad of all time.
Whenever I hear The J Geils band it forever reminds me of being a kid at Pizza Hut playing PAC Man while someone played “Centerfold” on the jukebox!
Frank, you are correct about Love Stinks setting up Freeze Frame’s success.
I agree, and the song Come Back may have helped them see the success a little synth might bring. It may not have been a huge hit but I loved hearing it the few times I saw it on MTV.
"I must Have Got Lost" was huge. Little cover bands could do "Love Stinks" pretty easy maybe 5 chords.
Thank you.
The J. Geils Band are much more than the "Centerfold" rockers. Their "Full House" live album has some mean harmonica playing!!
Must have got lost is my favorite. Especially the live version. The Peter Wolf rap at the beginning is killer.
I agree
The vocal meter and the keyboard melody - instantly recognizable. The snare out front. Ingredients man ingredients
You have a really cool father. I enjoy hearing your stories about you and your parents.
I was in a band back then, and we instantly added it to our repertoire of top 40 songs. People loved it. Great memories.
Big fan when I was young. Bought a few 45s . I liked that their songs were fun happy songs that rocked.
Loved the personal touch about you and your dad. Sounds like he was/is a great dad.
the freeze frame video was one of my favorites on early mtv..I remember borrowing the cassette tape from another kid in my 2nd grade class because I liked it so much..
