Round The Horne - a life saver during lockdown
Bona to vader your dolly old eek! Classic slap and tickle from two of the Round the Horn(e?) greats.😅
Wonderful! Thank you.
Round the Horne and especially the hilarious gay polari of Julian and Sandy brightened up the BBC radio airwaves in the 60s and entertained the nation. Most of the listeners didn't know exactly what they were talking about but we guessed. And it was rude and saucy and very funny. Classic timeless comedy.
They really don't make them like that anymore! What talent! It makes it all the more sad to hear and see what passes for comedy now.
Pity Wogan didn't realise he was dealing with 2 immortals here. He appeared quite at a loss.
I wish the image were clearer. Would love to be able to recognize a few of great actors sitting down. I spotted Deryck Guyler and (I think) Mr Granger from "Are you being served", but I can't quite see the others
loveeeeeeeeee kenny miss him so much
Loved Kenneth Williams, but Hugh Paddick was just as good, more versatile too, imo. He and Betty Marsden did hilarious sketches, with Paddick playing a 1930s type Noel Coward, and Marsden as Dame Celia Molestrangler playing, an equally grand theatrical lady, in various ridiculous "Brief Encounter" type skits of romantic melodrama and noble self sacrifice and stiff British upper lips. Just as funny as Julian and Sandy, but showed Paddick could play all sorts of roles, and assume many accents.
Classic!
Julian and Sandy! Weren't they bold!
They got away with murder using gay polari and they were hilarious. It seems strange but the act is dated and yet it stands the test of time. Ah nostalgia.
