Typical that there still are so many haters who don´t understand Hatsumi´s art and instead of getting curious begin to post hateful comments. But what is even worse is, that they haven´t practised a single day of honest training and are even too lazy to do so. However they don´t mind using a lot of energy on trying to ridicule and put Hatsumi´s art down on a level where it doesn´t deserve to belong. Envy is obviously an enemy that is hard to soften up....

Some people just can’t help themselves...the rest of us do Bujinkan. Look any Martial art that’s effective and can be used to better oneself will always be misunderstood by those that-well we already know who those kinds of people are. This may or may not be the best demonstration by Hatsumi Sense but either way the art itself is great, as well as the original comment above. Thank you for that. Everyone, be well.

I was about six (6) years in Genbukan. Nothing useful for the streets learned. Only money given to the "Cult". One day I had a real confrontation with a vicious assailant armed with a gun. I learned the most important lesson of all my life: never trust this bullshido again (and I'm not only talking about ninpo).

all respect to master masaki hatsumi my only contention in nobody stabs like that in real life. a stabber will not do a horse stance while stabbing. most stabbing is multiple times at extreme close quarter like a sewing machine.
i understand master hatsumi is well aware of the angles and i think he is imagining a sword stab not a knife stab.

Hatsumi doesn't care to teach .self defense he's mentioned that and if that's what someone wants go do boxing and some western wrestling. Even.Hatsumi did boxing and judo then he wanted to learn more traditional Japanese budo. Aikido is also for fitness flexibility and a spiritual path not really.for street fighting.

This is demonstrative and conceptual training. If you do this enough over a long period, the movements like anything else will become thoughtless reactions, however not if you continue to train at this speed. If you've trained as an athlete, (mine being basket ball) the same principles apply. You shoot the ball all day without stress trainning and at speed, maybe you can hit 3 pointers all day, if you try to shoot in game the way you practice, youll get swated, youll fumble the ball, youll commit travelling violations trying to spot up with real momentum and speed defenders in your face. its not the art its the way you practice. I encourage any haters to observe Martin Wheelers Systema discovery channel special and see how far the rabbit hole takes you, then understand that the art can be effective with the way trainning is applied!

You are correct in that if you practice anything enough it becomes second nature. But not necessarily effective if it’s bogus to begin with. Like ninjutsu and systema are. Anyone who has studied and trained hard in a legitimate martial art or even boxing or wrestling would destroy any of these people in a fight. I speak from almost 40 years of dedicated training and instructing old school Tae Kwon Do and coaching boxing. I have worked as a bouncer, taught combatives to law enforcement as well. I have my fair share of fights against self deluded practitioners who believe that they can train movements in low to no stress situations and then apply their so called superior art against people like myself who paid their dues through hundreds or thousands of stressful sparring or self defense situations. People want to believe in magic and shortcuts.

@@georgekondylis6723 I practice taekwondo and I can say that it does not work on the street, it is pure kicks and blows taken from karate, but with much less power, now I do ninjutsu and I can say that it is better for a real fight than taekwondo that only serves for competition. sports not as martial art, ninjutsu is not competitive is an art based to fight in real life where everything goes without rules that's why it is so dangerous and there are no competitive fights since these have rules that limit them

Exactly my point of view. We tend to reproduce the ways of moving of our martial arts teachers. Hatsumi was trained by an old man with much experience, so he taught his students like so. I also worry for some knife techniques, but I can also admit that many of those techniques if applied really fast will work, maybe not to certain levels of control we see on slow motion attacks, but many technique I must admit will work if the practionners understand the shifting of displacement similar to the wind. Timing and movement is what makes masters in all martial arts, like kali for example. So the mistake would be to reproduce those techniques like little clones of hatsumi. Rather you should test each technique in more realistic speed and level of agression, not to get bad habits. But when in training you should first start slow, then double the pace and finally when more advance go almost real fight speed and energy. DO not limit yourself to Hatsumi style as rich it can be, go beyond. Take what is good from Muya Tai, if it is only one kick, let it be this one kick. And mostly go with movement that fit your body type and age. This is the essence of the philosophy of Jeet Kune Do, then if you want to fight like Bruce Lee take Jun Fan Kung Fu courses. But ultimately adapt it to your personnality.

The thing is, the people that only practice in Hatsumi style of training will probably be surprised by the speed and non conformity of an actual street fight. @@pablohanc Pablo. This is not his best demonstration, by the way. I am mostly thinking of his earlier days. I admit this one is very sloppy. I combine many moves similar to his ninjutsu. But not exactly has he does. Sometimes you can apply a technique right away or after a punch or kick. But it is done real fast, and it is brutal. It is like Aikido. The way I practice is more like the ancestor of Aikido and Judo and Karate. His NInjutsu is old, and the hand-to-hand combat comes from samurais, maybe some from peasant ninja's (if they did exist). His way of using the body mechanics and the empty space created when at the right place at the right time is really good. But the way they practice is so biased that they get a false sense of security.

The problem is that Ninjutsu is a Martial ART. It is a relic of the past, it's an ART that is done if you want to learn something HISTORICAL. It is grossly inefficient and ineffective for modern times.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to do Ninjutsu if you want to practice history. I myself do a Koryu Jujutsu. However if I ever got in a real life fight and I couldn't run, j would use my Muay Thai training and the Judo training I do 5x a week. Those are modern and work in the modern setting.
If someone pulled a knife, I would run, or use my belt or jacket, I wouldn't grab at the hand with the first swipe, but constantly be moving and trying to avoid the strike until they overcommit

@Righteous Shadows Dojo knife defense techniques that have any fixed movements are fake. No one with any skill moves once with it. They will swing at different angles

I almost agree a 100% with you, but I still believe in many of Hatsumi technique validity, mostly his principles and understanding of the human body movements. . But you never know how a knife fight will begin. Many techniques can be applied if skilled enough. I did some tests myself back in the days with students and if you are attacked skillfully with a knife there has to be a gap that is safely closed by first delivery a kick. The kick serves has a block hit but also has a decoy to then enter with those nice taijustsu type techniques. Otherwise you will mostly get cut. Hopefully not in a deadly matter. The danger of Hatsumis or any style of fighting that becomes too much orchetrated is that the students become to self reliant on those illusion of always being able to apply the technique.
