One of the true geniuses of Aikido. Of course there are critical comments by people who display their total ignorance. Anyone with the eyes to see can see, and understands immediately. It doesn't mean you are at that level, it would take decades to have a chance, but if you were in his seminar, and had the sensitivity, you would absolutely be able to get it and experience it at that moment, and that wonderful feeling would last at least a few days. Then you'd go back to your more ordinary teacher with dreams of the real thing, and always try to practice it secretly, even as you had to follow the more ordinary teacher you had (who could still teach you a lot). O Sensei was a genius, all of the followers of him were extremely fit, trained hard, were inspired by him to dedicate their lives to it, and learned the techniques, many learned very well large parts of it, but only a few really understood. Yamaguchi Sensei was one; Hikitsuchi Sensei, Kato Sensei too.
To survive all i need is to proctect myself and others persons . Like wushu ..it's important very Important way .like onisaburo chrurch loving memories for me and respect silence on the road again
It seesm to be Meiji University 1990, judging from a comparison with this video " Aikido Great Master Seigo Yamaguchi in Meiji University 1990" by sevenstars64.
NoBody find in my self a good senpai so...i preches yamashima sensei ..it's important for my structure soul mind spirit ....not domination just loving myself thank's seigo yamagushi a.i.ki - do not a tecknic to domination like a lot of guru ...my lord
I have mixed feelings watching this video. On the one hand, you see Yamaguchi sensei's mastery in many occasions and it is great to see such a great number of techniques being performed, but on the other hand, it seems that an uke who would really be intent on bringing Yamaguchi down, would be able to do so several times in this video. In other words, there appear to be openings at times, and this is more aiki play between teacher and student.
No, he's in control. I never trained with Yamaguchi Sensei, but did with some with similar styles, which helps to understand what is going on, and believe me, he is just amazing. Try to find a seminar with someone with similar quality and you will feel it for yourself...
I agree with everything you say here. "Aiki play" is a good term for it too. And, it's fine, if all you're offering is a fun movement class. The problem is, a non-committed uke deprives nage from practicing true technique. If you've never had people resist your technique or punch you in the face because your technique's terrible, you won't know what to do when it happens. Violent drunk guys on the street don't just roll away after you've barely touched them. It's sad so many senseis allow it. Even the footage of Sensei Morihei Ueshiba shows he tolerated it. It only hurts Aikido.
I've trained with Yamaguchi sensei and his Acolytes. There is no way you could fuck with these guys and come away unscathed. You are sadly stuck in the role of a competitor.
it must have been the early 90's because he was more grey in the later 90's and he died in 96. I have a feeling its a university or corporate dojo because its all dudes. He used to teach at Meiji university.
...and a counter is countered with another technique and so on. This demonstration did not show any counters that have their own reaction again. There are hundreds of them.
It is only possible because there is only one point of contact ( wrist grab) and the concentration is only fixed on this point. In a normal sparring situation this will not be possible at all because the point of contact changes constantly and randomly. Aikido is only aikido, you cannot take it too seriously.
Too much ki no nagare, too little kihon... Pretty as they may seem, most aikido styles (apart from Iwama ryu and just a few others) fail in effectiveness.
Ignorance is bliss! It's a demonstration not practical application. Atemi and kicks and strikes of all kinds can be applied but this is more a demonstration of position, relationship to attacker and pins. It's the quality of the attackers that let's this down if anything.
Actually I am grading students tomorrow for to 2 levels under their black belt. I have my 4th level black belt and you are very welcome to come and train anytime. As for UFC usually the object is to get submission with a take down, which is fine, my style of Aikido is based on doing everything not going to the ground as some other person will kick you in the head. How many real fights are against a single person without out friends or others around...the answer is very few. I'm from a military background so I am no couch sitting net watcher putain.
Not at all. This is a master at work. He shows exactly what he is doing, but you have to have the eyes to see. Big movement, small movement; cutting, slicing, leading, directing ki of uke...never open, creating openings..yin and yang...harmony within and without...never a pause in the contact...it's amazingly beautiful to watch...

What a technique just in total control, no effort and the understanding of unbalancing. Great aikido.

I'm sorry, I do not know. If I find source, I tell you.

ridiculous, I'm so tired of these self brainwashing aikido vids, shame on everyone involved
At 10:22 uke could have punched Yamaguchi if he wanted to....Too many lax ukes at this school.
+Alex Scott lol
...and a counter is countered with another technique and so on. This demonstration did not show any counters that have their own reaction again. There are hundreds of them.
+Alex Scott Not true, Yamaguchi controlled his center by grabbing gi on the neck, uke could not punch... its obvious, do you practice aikido?
Not true at all. Yamaguchi shows perfect control at all times. The guy was off-balance. Yamaguchi has a martial mindset and is never "open".
