There is an issue between EVERY USB-connected HP printer and Windows 10 and Windows 11. One time if you start up Windows only detects the printer and not the scanner. Next time you start up Windows only detect the scanner and not the printer. HP Print & Scan doctor keeps saying the software needs to be updated = not working, reinstalling the printer and drivers = not working,... there is something wrong with the USB-drivers of HP and Windows 1o and Windows 11. HP Support just neglects the problem and keeps repeating the same solution (what isn't a solution). I'm an IT technician, installing multiple printers a day, allways having the same problem. Once I install on WiFi the printers are working fine (printing & scanning works). I'm sure we are NOT recommending HP printers in the future to our customers.

@djskyblastersky6708 I'm pretty sure this is my issue. I've spent 2h30+ on a call to HP support with them going around in circles. My Officejet Pro 9020 is connected fine by wifi but has ceased to connect to the desktop by USB, despite driver reinstallation/update, HP Smart uninstall/reinstall, USB lead changes etc etc. HP Smart just does not recognise the 9020 as connected to the desktop. My desktop is not wifi or bluetooth enabled. If I buy a wifi adapter for it are you saying that may then let me set the printer up over wifi, then letting me connect it with USB (and then I can remove the wifi adapter from it again)?

Hello, thanks a lot for the video. I have one question, please. Do you know if the scanned documents are saved onto the usb and onto the scanner as well... in both places at the same time? I am asking because when I go to the scanner, I can see on the scanner screen an image of the last document that I scanned. So I wonder whether the documents are being stored in the scanner. My last two printers were hp and came with software to set it up. Who is the genius that decided to make it where you have to set it up online??? Not all of us have internet access. I'm on disability and can't afford it. So I don't have a router like it says you need. This is totally ridiculous changing the set up method. I can only think it's an effort to save money. when i try to install using hp's software, the % goes up very slowly and gets stuck for a while at 99%. then it says installation was too slow and it cancelled. Only way i can get my color laserjet pro mfp m176n to work is via internet cable.. I can't even select usb on the ports menu because it doesn't show up there. only WSD port seems to work with the internet cable. What a piece of junk.

this is not working. HP is forcing the WiFi connection and doesnt want to connect a USB. did what you said there, which doesnt make any sense, and it didnt work. how to connect your printer with just a USB: on the printer, disconnect all wifi wireless connection, especially the direct wifi connection. on your laptop, unplug the printer, uninstall "HP unSMART", remove drivers, restart, plug the printer and thats it.

Hp Deskjet Plus 4152 WILL NOT connect to Windows 11. Not wirelessly, not via USB cable. My computer detects the printer, but the HP Smart (Dumb) app says the printer is offline. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Remove USB cable, if present. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

when i try to install using hp's software, the % goes up very slowly and gets stuck for a while at 99%. then it says installation was too slow and it cancelled.
Only way i can get my color laserjet pro mfp m176n to work is via internet cable..
I can't even select usb on the ports menu because it doesn't show up there. only WSD port seems to work with the internet cable.
What a piece of junk.

this is not working. HP is forcing the WiFi connection and doesnt want to connect a USB. did what you said there, which doesnt make any sense, and it didnt work.
how to connect your printer with just a USB:
on the printer, disconnect all wifi wireless connection, especially the direct wifi connection.
on your laptop, unplug the printer, uninstall "HP unSMART", remove drivers, restart, plug the printer and thats it.

Hp Deskjet Plus 4152 WILL NOT connect to Windows 11. Not wirelessly, not via USB cable. My computer detects the printer, but the HP Smart (Dumb) app says the printer is offline. Everytime I try to connect via USB cable, it just takes me to the wireless set up option. I don't want the wireless option.
I am going to trash the printer and buy a different brand. So infuriated with HP printers requiring an App and having to sign in to use the features.
