Having heard Liebestraum so many times with an orchestra and piano, I didn't quite know what to expect. I kind of thought I might be a little disappointed. I wasn't. This was beautiful.
I walked down the aisle to my husband to this recording. It was an intimate, beautiful ceremony during sunset in late October. This perfectly set the tone for our vows. ❤️
Now try to imagine how much our family enjoyed musical jam sessions. Dad played the violin (but only simple tunes) and the musical saw - and sang Mom played the piano and the clarinet - and sang I played the violin - and sang Ruth played the violin and the piano - and sang Ed played the cello - and sang Deloris played the violin, the piano and the flute - and sang.
Cannot stop listening to this very touching performance. Somehow this combination of Cello and piano makes this music the sound of longing for love and being loved, Beautiful piece and beautiful performance.
Golly. Takes me back to when I was a beginning cello student back in 1960. I had the sheet music for a transcription of 'Liebestraum', and I used to badger every pianist who came into the house into accompanying me in the piece.... Well, nostalgic reminiscences aside, the Toivios play it BEAUTIFULLY!... (P..S. Someone out there has just asked me whether I still have the sheet music. Heavens, no! That was a long time ago.)
Still hope about one day, when I modulate this melody and someone just say "Oh, liebestraum". I guess I will live with this man for the rest of my life.

I can remember this song way back into my grade school days, my grade school and high school were private schools, connected to a college, so we got LOTS of this kind of stuff, I learned to LOVE classical music. I also had a wise 8th grade teacher who taught us to appreciate classical music, I'll always be glad for that!!
