Great player but i have to say: what a boring episode it was. You played a view easy chords, talking 18 minutes about nothing. You can do better than this man. Are all guitar players in Nashville so depressive? Sorry for this bitter words but i expected some action from such a great guitar player.
Every time you watch one of these guys like Jedd, Guthrie or Tom you’re getting absolute gems of playing tips even if they aren’t lessons per se. As an experienced guitarist I ALWAYS learn at least a tidbit of something to add to my playing and when it comes from one of them it’s always pure GOLD. Better yet, it’s bloody free! If you need more sign up for Jedd’s lessons. Otherwise you’re just being a jerk and don’t deserve to benefit from these tips.
I was just watching this and thinking what a great piece of chilled music and read this … cant say i agree or understand your sentiments but thats my opinion
Hey Jedd, this is Jed. I love your delivery, it’s loose and relaxed. It’s a good vibe. Your guitar playing is so cool. Thanks for taking the time to do this. You, Guthrie and Tom are my favorites.
I LOVE that Lyle record. I worked with a friend in a guitar store who was an uber Lyle fan and he used to play it in the shop probably not that long after it came out. I'm SO glad you've been getting into my favourite movie. Wenders is one of the great humanist movie makers.
Thanks for reminding me of Paris, Texas. Haven't seen it in about 20 years. Very cool, moody film. You make every guitar you play sound great Jedd, but the Jazzmaster really seems to suit your playing style. Congrats on getting a good one! Cheers mate
Lyle's "Step Inside This House" is also an exceptional sounding 2 CD set of absolutely wonderful interpretations of some of the best Texas Songwriters.
Just what I needed after a few days that have drained me. Nice playing and it’s like spending an easy morning with a friend. Great to see you and Rodney out west, looking forward to what you have in store!
Hey mate, I enjoyed your post. I remember that Lyle Lovett song from when it was released. He was always a master craftsman when it came to songwriting. I'm also quite fortunate to own a 1961 Jazzmaster in Ash that was originally owned by a young man who played in a dance band in and around the Brisbane area in the early to late 60's and it's really incredible. I'll keep an eye on your channel from now on. All the best from Sydney.
I grew up with Joshua judges Ruth playing in my house thanks to my moms great taste of music. What a record! That's super cool. Love this video, thanks Jed
The Lyle Lovett album you just mentioned, OMFG. Just listened to the first two songs and was BLOWN AWAY. Not sure why that’s classified as Country but that’s another story. Listening on Apple Lossless audio and you can hear all the nuances. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll be enjoying that one for some time. EDIT: track 3…good grief, what a song!
Jedd, we must be living parallel lives right now. Kids, Lyle Lovett, and Jazzmasters have all been big on my mind. She’s Already Made Up Her Mind KILLED ME when I first discovered it just a couple weeks ago. Been thinking about a Jazzmaster build also and this is the tone in my head. I’ll be reaching out to Brandon at some point. Thanks for this oasis of tone and good will you’ve edified cyberspace with. Be blessed!
I got that record when it came out in 93. I don't know what inspired the purchase but it was quite a universe of sound even from my little all-in-one CD player I had in my apartment. The piano sound and performance on I've Been To Memphis is an unbelievable piece of work.
Great to see and hear you here Jedd! Glad to hear you’re busy! I was guessing as much from what you’ve been posting on Instagram! Really looking forward to the release of your new album project with Rodney Crowell! Incredibly beautiful playing on today’s post! Thanks! 🙏 Now off to find that Lyle Lovett record!
Hey Jedd, is there any way you can do these episodes standing on one foot or maybe standing on your head? I’m just concerned that all these world class guitar playing videos might be boring to some. Rock on Jedd!
Jedd!! So great to see you and hear you again man. Busy is good. Kids are the best. George Massenberg…A hero producer to me am my best bud since his work with early Little Feat.
Once you've finished Paris, Texas have a listen to Ry Cooders soundtrack separately and keep in mind that the whole thing comes from him playing with/exploring "Dark was the night, cold was the ground" by Blind Willie Jonhson. Wonderful in so many ways.
Sweet guitar! I put together a parts-Jazzmaster with a light swamp ash body, SD Antiquity pickups, Mastery etc and its been my number one for the last 5 or 6 years. So versatile. To me it's a " blank canvas" guitar - lots of everything and very balanced, almost neutral tones, so rather than it imposing it's character on you, it let's you take it anywhere you want to. I know some folks love the super bright high-end with the 1M pots, but I;m one of the many that prefer 250K for that warmer woodier sound. Sounds like that's what you might have in yours.
Hey, Jedd- just catching up. That's a pretty sweet Jazzmaster. Sounds great! My mom turned me on to Lyle almost 30 years ago. Hard to pick a favorite Lyle album, Joshua, Judges, Ruth is up there. "She's Already Made Up Her Mind" is a great song. I'm late into the Texas songwriters. I've been trying to catch up for the last fifteen years or so. Be good to you
Back in the 90s, a friend made me a mixtape with She's Already Made Up Her Mind on it. I knew it was Lyle Lovett, but didn't know the song title or the album it was on. I used to rewind that cassette mixtape to listen to that song over and over; I had just gone through a breakup so that was the perfect song to my life's soundtrack at the time. I had since completely forgotten about it - until you posted this video! Thank you! BTW, that song is a perfect complement to Paris, Texas. And I suspect that Jazzmaster has the same mojo...
Haunting and lovely playing, Jedd. I discovered Lyle in 1987 with the release of Pontiac. Check out “L.A. County” with Emmylou on backing vocals and Paul Franklin on steel:)
Nice guitar. A few years ago I bought a cheap J Mascis Jazzmaster that I stripped down, put a mastery bridge and vibrato plus some Lollar Jazzmaster pick ups. Looks like yours but not quite as fancy! Great playing as always! Regards, Ian.
So Jedd I put you on pause and went and listened to Lyle Lovett album Joshua Judge Ruth. I’ve kind of been a closet Lyle fan. I won’t listen to him for a long stretch and then I’ll hear a song and I’m like man I need to listen to that guy more… But this album wow this song North Dakota is so lush that starts off so unapologetically, lacking and reverb but plenty of presence and then when the piano starts playin…ooh!! it’s like he went and grabbed every frequency from Healow that you can get and it’s in that song
Jedd: Always great playing, channel shows, and monologues. Ry Cooder’s work PT one of our favorites. Lyle Lovett a terrific writer and player. You, Tom, Guthrie, Otis’ docs, and YT mentor Brett
Ok, so I paused you video and went and listened to "She's Already Made Up Her Mind". Wow! That song is an entire sonic landscape in itself. As a Texan I feel a little ashamed I hadn't listened before now. Thanks for nudging me to correct my lack of attention to outstanding music from a fellow Texan.
We were fortunate to see Lyle on tour, in 93-94, coming through NorCal. I knew of him, but not much by him, at the time. This was his Julia period, and interest was high. I was blown away by the incredible musicianship of Lyle and his Large Band. He is a wonderfully underappreciated talent. Great to see you are doing well, and happy to hear that sweet Jedd tone again. See you at the Basement, for both nights.
Gotta try Little Village..Only made one album...its just stunning ! Ry Cooder , John Hiatt , Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner !!!! Love that new guitar.....you lucky lad ! ( Can you tell I'm English?!)
Lyle Lovett has a lyric from The Truck Song, “I’ve been to Paris, and I don’t mean Texas…” Maybe another synchronicity ;) Lyle is one of my favorites. He writes such great songs & his sense of humor really shines through his lyrics. You’re a Guy Clark fan, right Jedd? Have you listened to Step Inside This House, the title track of Lyle’s album of songs written by other songwriters? Incredible song & lyrics.
Some of my favorite musics and movies mentioned here! That JM sounds magical. Lightweight swamp ash is almost impossible to find nowadays. Wonderful playing, as always. Thanks Jedd.
The Jazzmaster is my all time favorite sounding guitar. The tremolo is perfect, the pickups are perfect, and the body shape is perfect. My favorite Jazzmaster sound that I've been chasing for years is the sound Luther Perkins gets on the video of Cash on the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show. It's here on UA-cam somewhere. Maybe I"ll see if I can take a lesson or two soon.
Don’t even try to keep up with everything - if you can keep up with the lions share of the important things, you’re doing fine. Check in when you can - always appreciated.
I’m so glad to know that you’re doing well man! Stay blessed and if you wouldn’t mind, would you listen to the song, “Away” by Jordan Hensley? That’s a tune my wife and I did last year. 😎

Really appreciate you mate!
No problem Jedd, we will patiently wait for you
So glad to have you back... what a privilege it is to have you share your musical and non-musical life with us. Cheers!
I loved how chill that was at the very beginning. Very nice.
The Bros. Landreth's version of Lyle Lovett's If I Had a Boat is killer

I really love a Jazzmaster. Well done.
That jazzmaster is J Mascis approved! Lovely playing as well. I can hear the Ellis pickups' notes popping right off the fretboard.
Just what I needed after a few days that have drained me. Nice playing and it’s like spending an easy morning with a friend. Great to see you and Rodney out west, looking forward to what you have in store!
