Personally I think this sport would be the easiest to sell in the USA of all the European sports. It's fast, lots of scoring, a lot psychical contact.

It's one of the fastest sports in the world. Not easy to play. I was in my school handball team. Trust me this sport is awesome.

ProRed Bull having in fact played handball myself I’d say it’s not very difficult. Of course to master any sport is difficult, but I’d say there are several sports that are more challenging.
le mencho you know nothing. Men only wrestle around, run fast and shoot hard, women do the real playing. Men’s handball is all about physical power, women’s handball is about tactics and technique. I love them both. Handball is though a fairly easy sport. Even boys the age of 12-14 can be great, girls play great handball already at 14-16. For example tennis, gymnastics, volleyball, swimming are more competitive and difficult sports.

Handball: invented in Denmark, similarly to Basketball, by a school PE teacher to entertain his students.
7 players on each team, with one being the goalie. Only the goalie is allowed to touch the ball with his feet or while touching the floor within the 6 metre ring (the solid line you noted, it's drawn 6 metres from the goal).
Each goal is worth 1 point regardless of where you score from.
You are only allowed 3 steps while carrying the ball in your hand, otherwise you have to dribble.
It's not allowed to dribble, pick the ball up, and then dribble again.
If the team with the ball takes too long, the judge can whistle to signal that they _have_ to move now or give the ball up to the other team.
If you touch the ball with your feet, the ball is given up to the other team.
If the defending team makes a foul, you get a free shot from the 7 metre line with only the goalie between you and a point.
Both you and the defending team can risk a 2 minute out period for fouling, meaning you'll be undermanned compared to the other team. You can have more than one team member out like this at the same time, resulting in cases where one team plays 4 or even 3 active members versus 6. (plus goalies on each team, obv)
Games in professional leagues usually end with scores between 25 and 40 points to each team, averaging maybe a goal every minute for a 60 minute game.
Handball is one of the most fysical sports out ther because you may be runing as fast as you can and gett tackeld really hard

Almost every village had a handball team as it was outside on a football / soccer field. It was more similar to it. Then they brought it into a hall, the field was getting smaller and the game gets faster. Many of the small teams died because the couldn't effort a hall for playing.
But watching it is very exciting. Almost every attack is a goal and if the keeper can safe it it leads often to a fast counterattack.

I know this video is old -- but one dimension you didn't pick up: Handball vs. Football + Hockey ==> In handball you have no protective gear beyond optional mouth guard and jock strap.
Handball vs. Basketball: Physical contact usually a foul in basket but integral part of the game in handball.
Handball game often has on avg. one goal per minute of effective playing time = 2 x 30 minutes. Half-time break of 10-15 minutes. Each half taking roughly 38 minutes to plan 30 minutes effective.
Ladies handball is really much tougher than you might think. When you come to Europe, the Netherlands visit a soccer game and a handball game.

If you just watch a classic handball game on TV you can see players wearing tooth protections.

@@francoisrabelais1719 Nope. I played it for 10 years and been a coach until recently (still have all my teeth). Goalies have a genital protection.
But there are clear boundaries to the way tackling is allowed, taking out a lot of the possible brutality. Still its a very tough sport, and you should have some tolerance towards pain if you want to play it.
I think you could say its most popular in europe especially in the scandinavian countries, and those around germany :D

In the states that game is called Team Handball and Handball is a game with a little rubber ball being hit to a wall.
It's played during the summer olympics, it should be somewhat known in the United States... Oh yeah right, no U.S team, no interest, i nearly forgot how americans connect themselves to certain sports events. But I'm glad to see that it peeked someones interest.
To be fair, you should see the way US tv covers the Olympics... It's completely US-centric. Nothing they're not good at is shown, and if a US athlete doesn't win a race, the camera is still only on him/her, you have no idea how athletes from other countries did. It's unwatchable as a non-American.
Of course there is a US handball team. They play in Americas championships, but if USA lose against Greenland, you know where you are. ok, but you have to know that Greenland is a part of Denmark, a country where handball is very popular. Well, there is also a big difference in population and player pool, but there is a lot of work for US if they want to do something. You need just fast, strong and skilled players, and you are in.
Every country is like that. Especially in the Olympics, you are interested in the sports where your country is good at the most (except for maybe when you personnally are interested in a sport or big spectacles like the 100m race).

Attacking players are not allowed to stand in the opposing goal area, so they take a leap to get airborne and let the shot go before their feet hit the ground.
The team isn't allowed to stand in their own goal area either when defending. Only the goal-keeper. :)

I've plkayed Handball for like my hole life. And thought all in the USA knew the sport. But bro, you should really show some respect for the professionel players. It's alot harder than it looks, and have alot of rules... Kinda mad that you don't show more respect...

@@kristofferholst6053 It really isn't. Its far more physical and higher tempo than both, also more tactical. The teamplay coordination and pace is beyond anything you'll find in Basketball and indoor football. The only thing they have in common really, is that they're played on indoor courts and that's about it. Oh, and there's a ball, sure.
This video just shows scoring/saving. Nothing about the more violent parts, that play a big role in handball too.
Best countries currently are Denmark, Spain, Croatia, France, Germany and then there a habdfull good teams after that.

Football(⚽), handball ,Volei(Womens) futsal and basketball are compulsory and all are required to practice in public schools in Brazil. It is a pity that handball and basketball are not as popular as the football association ⚽ .

for the question which kind of ball are they using: In Handball the ball size for Men Handball is 3 with a diameter of 19 cm, while women and young players use a size 2 ball with a diameter if round about 17 cm
I'm coming from Slovenia... just yesterday we came in semi-finals in Euro cup(that's pretty much same as WC because European countries are the best by Farr) Here in Slovenia we have handball on very high level and I'll tell you... Handball in beautiful game, very manly game... Because you get hit, pushed a lott times.

It seems like it would be a nightmare to be a goalie in this sport! The goal is so big, and the players get pretty close, man. I was quite amazed at the saves. Then again, it seems like a nighmare being goalie in any sport! 😅
Well the goal is not that big compared to soccer, it’s 2x3 meters (6‘8“x10‘ ig). And the goalies wear protective gear for the groin area and for teeth, it’s optionally though

just came to Ireland last year they have handball but for them this is olympic handball... my dad played it for over 20 years and i played it for 5-6 years. In Croatia its called men sport coz its almost full contact sport... this guys are huge from 190 cm and 100 kg above maybe they dont look like that but they are huge

I currently play for a club team the biggest club in the US we got back from Spain and Sweden last summer to compete. Competition is really tough.
I from Portugal and I play for many years, is a spectacular sport, very fast and i love this game. Is fuc.... amazing.

Peter Smeichel, started out as a goal keeper in Handball. I think it helped him become an all time great in soccer. Handball keepers used their legs more than normal soccer goal keepers.
But, now I have watched Allison in Roma. He seems to combine handball goalkeeping, with NHL gold keeping.

I played this from 8 years to 34 years of age until my body wasn't accepting any more injuries and Hits ....its a tough , amazing sport....its a big guys Sport though....I am 6.3 245 and was pretty small for my Position

I'm from Denmark. The 3 biggest sports on Denmark is: Football (Women and mens teams), Cycling (Women and mens teams) and Handball (Women and Mens teams). So U are to football or handball. I like cycling and Football.... We have to big football teams in Copenhagen: Brøndby (Vestegnen) and FCK (Our capitol). Our football and Handball teams plays in Denmark and outside Denmark.

Its areally though sport! Players gotta be able to take that fall and then continue to play and defence play is pretty rough too sometimes. I had a small girl in my class who played it and she was thougher than all the wrestlers, martial arts and hockey players we had in school.
