The spiritual character state of the U.S. Bishops is deplorable so nothing better than a positve seed for the beginning of deep attitude and spirituality changes, moving from socially compliant cowardice to Christian humility-courage, and which is something we must help sustain with much prayer to Jesus and sacrifice for HIS Church. Remembering well the fact that we all and the Bishops are faulty sinners, limited even as Saints, and still celebrating his words presented on this video, the fact that Archbishop Gomez includes Dorothy Day right next to Father Tolton calls my attention. Father Tolton was heroic in his virtues and he totally surrenderd to Jesus and His Authentic Church Teachings. Dorothy Day did great things and was outspoken for the poor, social justice, etc. Very admirable!! The fact stands that she never totally shed her socialist beliefs and certain leanings toward Communism. Indeed, I am a fan of Blessed Bartolo Longo, ex-satanist priest, and I believe that God's Grace reaches into the darkest depths and always wins IF WE ALLOW IT. Dorothy Day, very admirable, yes. A Saint, no, in spite of our weak and compromising Bishops pushing hard for it. When it comes to the things of God we must have mercy but also strict discernment, the latter so lacking in the Laity and Clergy today. Keep what is good, let go of the rest (1 Thessalonians 5:21)!

Still not sure how the George Floyd event had anything to do with race. The prosecutors never claimed such or presented evidence of such at the trial. It seems a non-sequitur.
As a general comment in response to the "stay in your lane" argument from those outside the church, the simple response is that God is the creator of all things, visible and invisible. There isn't anything not, to one degree or another, in His lane. If God keeps all things in existence by His will and constant desire, then He must care greatly what we do with our lives to show we desire to be with Him for eternity. But another main point is there hasn't been some major discovery that proves that Jesus never existed, that He was some fictitious character. The evidence of history only bolsters the reality of Christ. So for those who reject Christ, they are really saying "this is too hard and I prefer other options". As CS Lewis said, Christ is either Lord, liar or lunatic and the evidence is quite clear that Lord is the only logical option. So rejection of Christ is really simply personal preference, a free choice. And the terrible gravity of that freedom is seemingly lost on far too many.
Finally understanding why I seemed so agonizingly uncomfortable with promoting social awareness and activism in Canada in my kids or students and just cannot seem to do it, when I was an activist myself in my youth in India fighting corruption and exploitation! This letter brought tears to my eyes; I was praising and thanking God for putting it all in starkly clear perspective for me!

I am a Roman Catholic, baptized as an infant; had a reconversion after lulling in my faith as a teenager. The salvation of Christ is an ultimate end for which I am truly thankful and my prayers and my studies are occupied by the singular desire to help others come to know the beatific vision. Wokeism tells me that we have lost the capacity to even see natural good as an objective truth in our society. As compelling as the gospel is for me, it is because I believe in objective and studyable Truth. I think we need to demonstrate that first before the Gospel is of any value. I have been studying Confucianism, a philosophy first known to Catholics through the Jesuits such as Matteo Ricci. Confucius and his school is a very promising teacher of the natural virtues upon which Grace builds. The primary virtue of Confucius and his school over Aristotle is that he is pithy. The four books that constitute the Confucian Canon all together are no longer in the book of Sirach. Another benefit of studying him concordantly with the Western tradition is that he demonstrates that virtue is a human universal. If empathy and doing your best are shared by philosophers East and West, how can virtue be called "white"?

US bishops seem to understand well the situation of the Church in the culture and seem to have valid analysis and critique of the culture. Sadly what they lack with all do respect is creativity, like Pope Francis has pointed out generally among bishops. Creativity could be synonymous for being dynamic and relevant vs being boring and irrelevant. How do bishops regain credibility and relevance after the overall tragedy of the past 50 years in the Church? How about Gomez in a clean rap video? Yes probably very difficult. How about using two million for a bold, touching commercial on Super bowl Sunday on the Eucharist and Sacrament of Reconciliation instead millions on a conference less than 1 percent pay attention to? Imagine what St. Paul woul do if he had their resources. He would be all over talk radio, popular youtube shows, any media where he could make a heart felt appeal to return and hear the Gospel and the message for eternal life. Do they even teach or promote this in bishop school?
I'm afraid Bishop Gomez 's appeal to church rulings on past heresies will fall on deaf ears within current church leadership and the current pontificate since both seem to feel that contemporary Christian virtue is found in denying the "rigidity" of traditions and historical precepts.

in my diocese, many priests have gone into the habit of saying “sisters and brothers” instead of brothers and sisters. this seems like a small deal, and in a way it is, but it is emblematic of this woke ideology that is taking hold in the catholic church. it represents a conscious departure from tradition in the name of equality, but they forget that tradition isn’t arbitrary. to be clear, men are not superior to women. we are all equal before god, but there is a clear hierarchy of church leadership and traditional family structure that men represent the head of. it is not sexist to put men “first”. first does not mean better. Adam was first before Eve, but that does not make him any less fallen.

This concept is ultimately a nondescription of history. Christianity is consequently Hebrew and Hellenistic. It is the true amalgam of those cultures. One is revelatory the other logical.
Nobody would call our heritage Judeo-Hellenic. That would be very strange indeed. Modern-day Judaism is fundamentally an anti-theses to Christianity. It is fundamentally a Hebraic heresy. Successful only in a Christian environment. Marginally so in the early stages of pre-Islamic evolution that happened from 600 - 1050. At that time Islam was fundamentally non-Christian and gave the Jews less and less breathing room. In fact, one can say that Islam began as a Judeo-Christian sect as is scholarly well documented. That led to a disaster. Yes, Christianity is the primary cultural achievement that can be proudly proclaimed by its own merits.

It seems as if Archbishop Gomez is speaking to rather than with these movements. His assumptions do not speak to my experience with activists or my experience as an activist. It doesn't help spread the gospel to accuse people of things they do not do or at least work to understand why people do what they do.

I am a Roman Catholic, baptized as an infant; had a reconversion after lulling in my faith as a teenager. The salvation of Christ is an ultimate end for which I am truly thankful and my prayers and my studies are occupied by the singular desire to help others come to know the beatific vision.
Wokeism tells me that we have lost the capacity to even see natural good as an objective truth in our society. As compelling as the gospel is for me, it is because I believe in objective and studyable Truth. I think we need to demonstrate that first before the Gospel is of any value.
I have been studying Confucianism, a philosophy first known to Catholics through the Jesuits such as Matteo Ricci. Confucius and his school is a very promising teacher of the natural virtues upon which Grace builds.
The primary virtue of Confucius and his school over Aristotle is that he is pithy. The four books that constitute the Confucian Canon all together are no longer in the book of Sirach. Another benefit of studying him concordantly with the Western tradition is that he demonstrates that virtue is a human universal.
If empathy and doing your best are shared by philosophers East and West, how can virtue be called "white"?

US bishops seem to understand well the situation of the Church in the culture and seem to have valid analysis and critique of the culture. Sadly what they lack with all do respect is creativity, like Pope Francis has pointed out generally among bishops. Creativity could be synonymous for being dynamic and relevant vs being boring and irrelevant. How do bishops regain credibility and relevance after the overall tragedy of the past 50 years in the Church? How about Gomez in a clean rap video? Yes probably very difficult. How about using two million for a bold, touching commercial on Super bowl Sunday on the Eucharist and Sacrament of Reconciliation instead millions on a conference less than 1 percent pay attention to? Imagine what St. Paul woul do if he had their resources. He would be all over talk radio, popular youtube shows, any media where he could make a heart felt appeal to return and hear the Gospel and the message for eternal life. Do they even teach or promote this in bishop school?

I'm afraid Bishop Gomez 's appeal to church rulings on past heresies will fall on deaf ears within current church leadership and the current pontificate since both seem to feel that contemporary Christian virtue is found in denying the "rigidity" of traditions and historical precepts.

I noticed a rapid negative change for the worse immediately after George Floyd passed away.
in my diocese, many priests have gone into the habit of saying “sisters and brothers” instead of brothers and sisters. this seems like a small deal, and in a way it is, but it is emblematic of this woke ideology that is taking hold in the catholic church. it represents a conscious departure from tradition in the name of equality, but they forget that tradition isn’t arbitrary. to be clear, men are not superior to women. we are all equal before god, but there is a clear hierarchy of church leadership and traditional family structure that men represent the head of. it is not sexist to put men “first”. first does not mean better. Adam was first before Eve, but that does not make him any less fallen.
