To be fair, almost every WWE fan only watches WWE, that's why I think a lot of people are happy with Punk's comeback, because they don't watch AEW or read WO, Fightful or whatever other web site, they just watch the E. I know that because I was that kind of fan 8 years ago 😅
Yeah I'm starting to feel like there are not a lot of crossover fans from AEW to WWE because Cody went from being hard booed in AEW to monster cheered in WWE in a matter of two months. AEW really is on an island by itself with its diehard fans. TK refuses to cater to anyone else tho so that 800k is their ceiling and their echo chamber.
@@NeutralGloomBot You got it backward. WWE is the island/walled garden/monopoly. AEW partners with New Japan, AAA, MLW,, Impact (in the past), and other indies. They even allow other promotion's titles to appear (and be defended) on their TV shows. They have to, because they have a smaller fanbase, and need to attract the fans of those other promotions. But your reasoning has some truth, that TK is catering to those die hard wrestling fans that had no interest (anymore) in WWE's isolated "universe". And he was right. He can put on a TV show and get 800K to religiously watch it. Impact can't do that. AAA nor NJPW can do that (in the US), Again, excellent point, but wrong conclusion.

I think to anybody who keeps saying that the casual audience doesnt exist, this show had completley proved them wrong.
The promo was not wasted. Maybe the one line, but everything else was perfect.

I didn't even realize it was a shot because I've moved past Punk in AEW, I am just excited to see Punk in WWE.
I cared. The audience they wanted to care, cared. In arena, the ones who got it, started a Punk chant
Totally get what you're saying about the CM Punk and AEW buzz in the wrestling community! It's like a whole different world for those deeply into the Internet wrestling banter. 😅 But, you know, not everyone is immersed in that scene. My grandma, who introduced me to wrestling, remembered CM Punk from the old days with Taker and Cena. When I showed her his return at Survivor Series, she was all smiles, asking where he'd been. Had to break down the AEW scene for her since she sticks to WWE weekly. It just goes to show, that WWE has a massive audience beyond the hardcore fans, and AEW is the home for us hardcore wrestling abroad fans. That isn't WWEs target audience tho, I am a little surprised Punk didn’t seem to know/remember that. However, I think it’s a good thing, because honestly I don’t want pointless AEW jabs on my WWE programming, and I don’t want pointless WWE jabs on my AEW programming, I just want great stories and great matches

Punk bringing up AEW not getting a reaction is to be expected. This is the same company where Rollins namedropped Mox on Smackdown almost 2 years ago to zero reaction. WWE main roster crowds have had the smarks be culled out for a long time.
at this point, it has to be:
WM Night 1 Main Event: Punk v. Rollins World Heavyweight Championship
WM Night 2 Main Event: Cody v. Reigns
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

He brought up AEW and “no one cared” because this was an all time casual WWE crowd, that was probably 60% filled with servicemen and women, a lot of whom probably didn’t even know who CM Punk is… They should’ve had Punk on Smackdown LAST week, not on this Tribute to the Troops show.
I was there. There was probably like 1000 servicemen and women there the rest of the crowd were regular WWE fans. Rhode Island just didn't know what he was talking about.
I kind of think (and this is no knock on either company) that fans think more people watch both companies shows than actually do. It might have gone over half the crowds head because they only watch WWE, don’t follow wrestling news.

Problem about Punk cutting a promo on that Raw is that the majority of the show was probably written. Remember, Punk was signed only 2 days prior to Raw on the day of Survivor Series. It was a great promo. City aside, I think he reached a wide audience. This will all be ok.
See this is the issue I've been seeing a lot of wrestling news outlets wondering why the crowd did not respond CM Punk last night can you please somebody tell me to hire me them because we have morons in the wrestling Community because you obviously know that this was a tribute to the truth half of that audience was literally troops why would they know the reference of aew ask that question to yourself

The problem with Karrion Kross is that he has one of those gimmicks that only work for a main eventer. He would have needed to tweak his gimmick to he more suitable to taking losses. That way he could have kept more heat and possibly be ready for a main event push down the line.

Last week everyone was saying, "WHY DIDN'T CM PUNK BRING UP AEW!!!". Last night, CM Punk brought up AEW &...CRICKETS!!! WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT???
I'm glad that somebody in the YT channel-verse has posted a video stating the obvious. The AEW reference got a low mumble. They are right - in a different audience, that AEW reference would have blown the roof off of the building. Look what the reference has done to the IWC. I also think that WWE has done such a good job ignoring the rest of the wrestling world, that a portion of the fan base ignores all things not WWE. So there may not be any interest in those fans for any mentions of CM Punk's time and misadventures in AEW. Hell, we have AEW Cody in WWE now, and even HE can't (and won't) mention anything about AEW. Brian Pillman Jr has a new name. Jade Cargill probably will too, and neither will ever refer to their non-WWE days when they get o WWE TV.
This WWE Punk, who is now a WWE Universe character. His time away doesn't exist in this universe.
Cody and Seth have literally mentioned AEW in the past and it’s also gotten crickets. WWE fans aren’t as obsessed with AEW as AEW fans are with wwe.
@@malkkum Or, hear me out... AEW fans are pro-wrestling fans, many (if not all) were also WWE fans once upon a time, or still are. Whereas a portion of WWE fans, are just that: WWE fans. Meaning, for them: pro-wrestling = WWE. They don't watch anything else, or care about anything else. TBH, they're not the toxic fans who post hate comments on TK's X account, or consume content bashing AEW either.

Providence is an original WWE city majority of that crowd are there for Army/Navy game
Providence, RI is like 100% colleges. They put service men and women on the hard cam, sure, but the rest of that crowd was almost certainly all people 18-25. The entire city is quite literally nothing but college buildings and dorms. If we're at the point where college kids are the "casual fans" the reality is you're probably at least in your 30s and just an overly hardcore fan that knows everything about everything and has been watching for decades and all those "casual" fans are the actual, normal fans who are exactly the fan you used to be before you became just a wrestling brain.

Honestly, this should show every fanboy out there how little the general public cares about AEW. 95% of that audience had no idea what he was even talking about, because casual wrestling fans don't even know AEW exists. It's for the hardcore fans of wrestling. People who go to sites like this. But you're average fan, who just watches WWE, and doesn't look for wrestling news online, they think Punk hasn't wrestled in 10 years. AEW fans just have to face the facts. They're a niche of a niche. That's not a bad thing, necessarily, but it's a fact.

Burying Sting on commentary at WM31 wasn't JBLs idea. The commentators were ordered to do it by Vince.
I’d love if instead of getting Punk vs Roman at mania we get Punk being an obstacle FOR Cody to get to the match with Roman. Then Punk could easily get a night one main event or something, or at least have a match. Then he could keep trying at his story just like Cody had to.

Tempest, the mayority of the crowd present there were just casual army men and their families that mostly likely only know the WWE has the main wrestling promotion and have no clue on what an AEW is nor have the time to follow all of these wrestling news sites, so yeah, thats why they didnt care.

The AEW line was a little too toungue in cheech since he did punch coworkers so doesn't hit as hard as calling out working with children would have been. I liked the rest of the rest and fueds he set up/Heyman reference 👍

I think Punk wins the Rumble by eliminating Cody last (Gunther is the second-to-last). If they want to turn Punk heel (they might), that can be a good set-up for it, because he ruined Cody's story (Cody will win a Chamber match to get a shot at Roman, so it's not technically ruined). Punk, of course, chooses Rollins just to shut him up.
And that's your night 1 main event.
People have to realize the troop shows are free or heavily discounted for anyone in the military most people who go to those shows probably 60% of them arent even wrestling fans and just had nothing better to do on a friday night for free. So thats why pops for older wrestlers like randy orton cuz hes someone ppl that dont watch wrestling have at least heard of from when they were a kid
ALSO its funny that randy said he don't know who LA knight is when on RAW after survivor series he said that while he was away he watched the product. Thats what got me like "really randy? You literally said you watched the product while you were away on RAW"

While I can see Punk vs Rollins headline night one of WrestleMania I don't see it being for the title & I actually see Punk losing. I think it could be WWE & Triple H way of testing Punk if Punk willing to play ball after all the drama he caused in AEW. Basically you get your main event Phil but your going to play ball & do the honours. When Hogan returned to WWE I'm 2002 he was humbled by the company losing to guys like Rock & Brock before he got a big push. Same thing happened to Brock in his 2012 return to the company they made him play ball & had him put over Cena & Hunter before his push. I still think the two world title matches for WrestleMania are Cody vs Roman & Sami vs Drew or Seth depending on if Punk or Austin Happens at WrestleMania. I think Hunter end goal for WrestleManIa 40 is to give Punk his WrestleMania main event & putting over either Austin or Rollins & have Sami & Cody win there first world title at WrestleMania. I think Cody wins the chamber to get to Reigns while Sami wins the Rumble to fight Seth or Drew for the WHC
I'm starting to realize that Punk is like when an author makes note that the curtains are blue in a scene of their book, and Punk fans are the teacher who spends ten minutes explaining all the deep symbolism and importance of that choice, when in reality the curtains are just blue cause the author said so. Like I would hope he's gonna wrestle people and wants to win a title, this was far from a masterful promo.

You can make Kross good(him in NXT is perfection), but they are just writing him awfully. He NEEDS a winning streak, every week. Have blood feuds against high mid carders and then have him go for a world title. Build him all before mania as a killer, and have him beat Cody for the title at Summerslam, and have Kross keep the title until Mania 41 for LA Knight to win. It can work, so many wrestlers can work, but Triple H and wwe have just been focusing on other things(mostly the boodline) and have been ignoring these stars that desperatly need good writing.

Wwe understands that there’s no money in talking about wwe. What has talking about wwe done for aew absolutely nothing. Internet fans don’t translate to revenue. Why talk about another company in place where the fans don’t care about them

Maybe it's just me, but I think the shine is off CM Punk. He's like that band you go and see because you remember them being awesome, but they turn out to be old and passed it and just replaying the same old tune to diminishing returns. Besides the middle finger to AEW, I'm not sure what he has to offer WWE. He can't really go in the ring, his promo shtick is getting old and he's surrounded by performers who are far better than him at both.

I thought that the Randy Orton's "additional" fine payment for "next time" was a shot at the stories surrounding wwe's 'wellness policy' at least a shot at how it USED to be. The stories speak about wrestlers (specifically Randy Orton for this story) violated the wellness policy, using steriods and/ or drugs(weed). Most wrestlers were suspended, but the bigger stars (Randy) paid a fine in lieu of suspension, and paid an "additional" payment for 'next time'. There is a video that speaks of the forming of EVOLUTION.
Personally, I can see Cody winning the Rumble again and Seth costing CM Punk the Rumble match. At least by costing Punk the match, they’re both still on RAW whereas Cody needs to be on Smackdown for his title program. Just thoughts
