    Why don't these dentists, periodontists or who ever extracts the teeth have print-outs of post extraction instructions? Gees that really amazes me that I have to go on UA-cam and search the internet to find out what to do...I mean, do they really think we're going to remember oral instructions right after the trauma of having our teeth pulled?? I don't think so!

    I’m currently at the end of my 5th day post op (four impacted wisdoms removed with twilight sedation), and I just wanted to post this comment across a few videos to calm anyone down who may be panicking like I was. Because I was panicking. Never had surgery before and I read and watched every horror story on the internet. I just want to say that I had a good, experienced surgeon perform my extraction and that I dealt with NO unbearable pain, did NOT take any narcotic painkillers, and have been instead alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen (stopped that today on day 5). The sedation did NOT make me act weird, for those of you who fear that part. The third day was indeed the worst, but completely doable. I would describe it as discomfort at its worst. To me, the whole process has been no different than what it was like to lose teeth as a child, along with a sore and stiff jaw. Hope this helps anyone, because I read so many bad comments and I was completely freaked out the week prior to surgery.

    • @anna_in_lux1599
      @anna_in_lux1599 5 років тому +7

      Thank you for posting this. People tend to only write comments when they are anxious or had a bad experience. I am very worried since 10 years ago I had a really bad dry socket, though I did not follow any rules at all, the oral surgeon gave me no guidelines at that time. This time I am 8 month pregnant (so no heavy pain killers) and the other lower one is continuously inflamed, so it will have to be removed this week. It is good to hear that it does not necessarily have to be a horrible experience :)

    • @jessicarainesart
      @jessicarainesart 5 років тому +2

      anna_in_lux sure thing. I’m sorry that happened to you. I’m super glad I have been able to avoid it. Hopefully your next surgeon gives you appropriate instructions...that’s inexcusable that the last did not. I’ve read online that the ones that are infected/hurting are actually easier to deal with post extraction because the pain of healing is less! Mine weren’t bothering me but maybe this will apply to you. Hope everything works out for you!

      Wisdom teeth were useful thousands of years ago when man was made to eat mostly meat and tougher foods. Through evolution our mouths have gotten smaller and thus wisdom teeth are no longer necessary.
      This also explains why most people can not have them fit properly in their mouths. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me.

    Get black tea, wet the tea bag, and swap out the gauze for that as soon as you can. I used gauze for 7 hours and was still bleeding significantly. Once I used the black tea bags the bleeding slowed significantly after an hour and stopped entirely after 30 more minutes from that. I found out some people can bleed for up to three days just using gauze and pressure.

    2nd day post wisdom tooth extraction: kept gauze in for 2 hours then removed it. I never repacked it. Ate mostly soft foods: banana, clementines, yogurt, and eggs for dinner. I never took any ibuprofen nor did I need any. On a scale of 1-10 after local anesthetic wore off I was about a 2. Most pain was during extraction. Dentist had to give me 2 additional shots of lidocaine after he hit a nerve.

    Because I got a useful tip in the comment "Have painkillers when you get home from the dentist", to deal with the after pain.
    Here are my tips:
    -Have a bit of coconut oil or melted beeswax and swirl in your mouth gently - oil will coat the sore gum and create a lining to protect from any type of irritants and simultaneously help to heal. In addition, after doing so it will be easier to drink and eat.
    -Also, while drinking and eating you can tilt your head to avoid any contact with the sore area.
    -Eat protein based food such as eggs and fish, to accelerate the healing process.

      No rinsing at all for the first 24 hrs after an extraction. After this 24 hr period then you're supposed to warm salt water gentle rinse 3 - 4 times per day. This is supposed to keep the area clean and promote healing. That's the info I got at my oral surgeon's office.

    I had a wisdom tooth taken out yesterday. I wasn’t given stitches, gorz, antibiotics or anything by my dentist. He was rather rough and damages the corner of my lips and inside in my gum. I found eating warm food actually made my mouth feel better. But I’m sticking to softer foods- pasta, beans on toast, mince meat, yogurt, jelly noodles. Not too much chewing to do. During the day I can handle the pain I just watch tv/youtube but at night it’s difficult to sleep with the constant ache. I usually love to read but I can’t concentrate right now on my books due to the pain. From today Iv washed my mouth out a couple times with mouth wash. I’ve taken ibuprofen during the day and I took come co-codamol at night but the pain hasn’t completely gone. At one point yesterday I was overcome with a sudden urge of wanting to vom so I had to go outside into the cold air and crouch down for a few mins to feel better. How long (days) will the pain last? And how do I sleep at night with the pain as even pain killers don’t seem to fully get rid of the pain.

    • @urwow9
      @urwow9 5 років тому +1

      Depending on the "Damage" done to your gum, the pain should be gone by the third day (soreness is normal) BUT you really need to get some antibiotics, extractions get infected easily! Go to your dentist and demand them if you have to! If the pain is still happening after 3-4 days you have a chance you got dry socket, you will have to go check with your dentist to make sure it isn't that.

    Basically what they don't tell you is have the biggest meal of your life before the extraction. I mean something heavy that will keep you full for ages and then have a variety of soft foods available before hand. Mash potatoes, soft pasta, all sorts of soups, all sorts of fruits and vegetables. If you can blend the damn things in a blender.

    I had an upper molar extracted about 60 hours ago and I honestly don't feel anything. My only question is: is there a way to tell if the site is healing nicely by looking at it? Should I see a scab? I would much rather not have a dry socket. I highly doubt it's as painful as many say, however I fear the wallet pain is far more prevalent.

    Hello,
    Thank you for the information. I had a molar extracted 3 days ago (number 30). I stopped bleeding right away after the extraction and have had no pain and no swelling. I have been rinsing with salt water multiple times per day and brushing/flossing twice a day as I normally do. I have been extra careful not to touch or disrupt the area so it can heal properly, but I have noticed that there is a white, slimy looking, bio film over it. I have been tempted to go in with a wet gauze and pat it clean a little. What do you think about that?

At one point I refused to open my mouth and they have to get 3 people to hold my mouth open. It was the most dramatic experience ever. I'm never going back. When they said they where done I sat up right away and ran out. I almost fainted when they riped my tooth out my vision was blurry and I was light headed. There was blood everywhere. When I got home I took some pain reliever and sat on the couch for 3 hours doing nothing just staring at the wall with a grin on my face my mom tried to make me happy with some ice cream but nothing worked I'm mad that she would pay someone to do that to me idc if the orthodontist said it had to be done I'm never listen in to them ever again.

      Aashish Bharat don’t be scared, lol, it does not hurt at all. I just got one pulled, I thought it was going to be the worst pain of my life, but it’s all in your head. I thought I might have to be knocked out, but if your dentist is cool with taking it slow, I had mine out in just about 10 minutes of wiggling it back and forth and it just slides right out. I was even more freaked out because I was at an emergency dentist aha. I also had some bone fused to my tooth that broke off and I was expecting to be in pain while that regrows. You feel pressure, but that’s all. 4 days later, still no pain at all. Just take your meds after as prescribed.
      And to anybody who is concerned about smoking weed, I’ve been dabbing and I’ve been fine. Mine is healing very fast. Just don’t suck hard, as if through a straw. I also put wet gauze in the first couple days when I did smoke to minimize any air pressure and smoke going into my socket though. Wet the dry gauzes to keep them from sticking to your socket, that could hurt. I’ve also been doing salt water rinses more than 5 times a day and I think that’s why mine is healing so fast and painless.

    The day I got it extracted I didn’t get any swelling. I did put ice pack anyways for a bit but didn’t really need it. The blood did stop that same day.
    I am glad to know it will take two weeks for it to fully heal cuz I want to eat food and not be limited to soft food. Which isn’t much selection.

    I just had tooth 3 extracted today. Left a fat hole in my gums. I’m doing everything to ensure I don’t get dry socket but it’s not looking too great
