"I had to go into my drawer of Roman brooches" You're killing me. I am so jealous of that drawer. I want a Roman brooch drawer too!!!!
You may find you find a few quite quickly jefff, like buses... and then before you know it you will have one started! 😁
you are easily my favourite metal detecting show. I don't miss any of your updates. I enjoy your HQ briefs and the research element to your shows the most and of course 'taski' keep up the good work
Bruce thank you very much! And thank you for watching! Hope all well and All the Best, Alexander
hello cousin!
@@kydo97 😂
The brooch was so exciting! I wished you showed the Claudius coin a bit more. A stationary shot of the front and back. Tasci is just too adorable.
Sorry about that Tucker - I'll remember for next time! Hope all well and thanks for watching! All the Best, Alexander
More great Roman finds. Thanks for sharing.
No problem Philip thanks as always for the support! Hope all well
Hi Alexander, Absolute stunning find the roman brooch along with all in your collection and the hammered coin was just as welcome. Great video as always. Take care GL and HH 👍😀👋 Tony
Hi Alexander. Just got back from my hunt today. I found 1910 Edward penny that was the last year for British pennies and our pennies came a year later than our silver they started in 1910 and our copper was 1911. Scored a sixpence 1956 50% silver 2 commonwealth pennies and a 1912 half penny. 1943 1955 roo pennies. And some spendies😂.👍✌🇦🇺
ABSOLUTELY SUPER EPISODE,, oops caps sorry, i really enjoy your vlogs ,, the amazing finds,, the interludes where you talk to us about your finds and give us a bit of a history lesson,, i really do like seeing when you have uploaded another fantastic vlog. i find quite a lot of roman , celtic and medieval much like yourself,, its just the best feeling,, rescuing these pieces. thanks for sharing. keep up the great work. thanks
Tasci says....but Dad, there is something on the wind. Well, he showed you his ill manners. LOL Fabulous brooch!!! I can't believe it was just laying there on top! Jealous of the rain. We have a delicious cold front coming Sunday, but don't know if it will bring rain or not. My whole county is in exceptional drought. Almost the whole county. Only a couple more small spots in the state are, then there is the big blob. My live oaks can't take much more. They are already almost naked. I have a huge one across from the house that will break my heart if it dies from the drought.
Oh dear Cyndye I didn't know it had got so bad! I am sorry and hope it comes soon the rain! All the Best, Alexander
Alex, watching this while drunk, but cheers mate!! All the best. What you do brings joy to people!
Ha! Thanks Logan!!!! Hope you have recovered! All the Best, Alexander
Morning Alex,
Fab fibula and as you say amazing to survive 1900 years in the ground.
I have had luck on my local field...my first roman silver denarius, sestertius and a wonderful medieval buckle and plate with a lion on it!
Thanks for sharing your detecting with us.
Please write an article for the searcher magazine!!!
Regards
Anthony
My God Anthony, well done! The plate sounds cool and who was the denarius from? Hope all well and thanks for watching! All the Best!
Hi Alex, I haven’t had much time to post lately but every one of your vids and wonderful finds are classics as usual and it is great to see Tasci too👍
Keep up these videos. I enjoy them so much whilst learning loads.
Thank you Dave - that is much appreciated! Hope all well and thanks for watching - All the Best, Alexander
Love the roman brooch, what a find...
I know its a proper one that one! Thanks for watching vlad! Hope all well!
That brooch is incredible! How amazing to find something so beautiful!
I know Penny it really was something that and it's hard to show in film or photos quite how beautiful it is and so fragile you might just break it by squinting at it too hard! Hope all well with you and thank you very much for watching! All the Best, Alexander
@@HolzHammerSagas very well thank you, hope you are too!
You're so lucky with your location, I'm in Devon so not the abundance of roman like you find. We have a lot of bronze and iron age sites around, but they are all protected. I've got a new permission though through a friend and it's on a medieval farm. Looking forward to what may appear from the ground.
Keep the vids coming. I always enjoy your content!
Absolutely fantastic film yet again. I really enjoy getting new notifications from your channel, so inspiring and educational.

Brilliant stuff Alex. Think you'd make the soil an interesting subject 😄 You really are exceptional yet always apologetic. The channel is amazing 👏
Del thank you very much! Hope all well and thanks for watching! All the Best!
Great video as always Alexander. That brooch was stunning. Coins as well
Best I have found I think, apart from the missing bits there isn't even a scratch on it ... very strange! Hope all well Don and thanks for watching!
A fantastic brooch. Very well done. Cheers 🍻
Thanks Robert - hope all well with you!
Great finds Alex. Great video, too - thank you. It would be interesting to see a modern reconstruction of a Roman brooch with original colours, enamel, settings etc. Is that field unusually large or perhaps a number of smaller fields combined more recently by removing hedges?
That's an interesting comment Spitalhatch as old maps show that it was several fields at one point and there is a footpath running through the middle of it dividing the field in two - I definitely have got the wrong bit but I had another good look round and can't find anything obviously Super Roman… It's been drilled now and the seed is coming through so that's me there for awhile! Hope all well with you and thanks as always for watching
For a man that didn't get on with his camera, you certainly have made some incredible videos! Best regards
Ha! Thanks Rhett - that one I was talking about I only had for a few months i couldn't get it to focus properly and it wasn't a cheapy either!!! Anyway sometimes there is no point flogging a dead horse so I got another more fool proofy one! Hope all well and thanks for watching! All the Best, Alexander

@@HolzHammerSagas Thank you, I am at our home in Cyprus at the moment. Although I have licence to detect here, the rules are very strict , can only go on certain beaches , no farm land, so I am getting my fix , by watching your footage. You ,I feel are the best at detecting videos on youtube .
@@SuperCarol1961 Thank you very much SuperC and lucky you being out there - bad luck the rules are a bit dull though I bet there are wonderful things there waiting to be dug up... hey ho, enjoy the sun its a bit damp here!

Hi Alexander...Great fields and superb finds. Thanks for sharing. You might like to know that Caligula produced very few coins in his own image, rather he dedicated coins to Augustus and to most of his family. The decorated 'Roman' fragment is probably from a bracelet iro. C1-2. And... it was a dress/clothes hook...Medieval period. You should be able to find an exact datable example on PAS😁
Donna thank you very much for all your knowledge it is much appreciated! I didn't know that about Caligula; I have yet to (knowingly) find one of his coins... anyway, thank you very much again and All the Best, Alexander
My pleasure💖 I have dug 2 denarius of Caligula showing Augustus deified... beautiful coins. Maybe we'll watch you dig one one day?? Good luck with that x
Brilliant interesting informative as usual Alex thank you
Thank you Paul! 🙏 Hope all well!
Amazing video Alexander!!!! The broach is just incredible 😍
Thanks Tesy - much appreciated and hope all well!
Even with the missing equipment it was still enjoyable viewing. Love that brooch👍
Thank you Amanda much appreciated and hope all well!
I was thinking right or left handed when you spoke of those Roman coins ( I am mixed dominance so write left but throw right) Of course lot's of superstition on lefty's as devil is supposed to sit on your left shoulder which is why you throw spilt salt in that direction to sting his eyes. Always happy to see Tasci"s cameo appearance. Loved your finds 👍
I never knew about that salt thing! I am a superstitious bugger and always do that with salt but never knew why!!!!! Thanks Steve! Hope all well1
Brilliant 💯
Ha! Thanks Kaare!!!!
well done alex love the romam broach......
yes its a particularly good one! Thanks dazza - hope all well!
Hey Alex n Tasci🙋🏻♂️, hope you’re both well? Yet another cracking vid, loved the dynamics of the intro, mixed it up a bit, which for me at least , gave this instalment a kind of suspense of sorts ( for want of better words ).
I know the brooch is superb ( without a doubt) but I really do love the crudeness of the little buckle, it has such character🤷🏻… my fav today.
Super informative as always and your enthusiasm is a pure delight. Chat anon Alex and ty for sharing, best , G👏🙏🤗😎.beep beep beep😂
Ha! Thanks Garry - that was very nice to read! And I liked the little buckle too its quite unusual really... anyway, thanks as always for watching etc and hope all well with you!
Another great video Alex! Always enjoy and Congrats on all the little treasures!!! 👍👍👍
Another great video and they just keep getting better but I am realising your enthusiasm is so infectious, I want to go out right now!
Thank you very much Colin that was very nice to hear! Hope all well and thanks for watching! All the Best, Alexander

Wonderful day again Alexander! That broach was amazing! Your finds just blow my mind. All the best, John.
''Brooch''!!
Ha! Like a cockbrooch!!!
Thanks John - they blow mine sometimes too! 💥 Hope all well!
Lovely brooch. It is another good field with lots more potential. Those bits of smelted bronze always a good sign. Nice dramatic skyline on that hunt.
I love finding bronze blobs - nothing but good can come from them! Hope all well Paul - thanks for watching!
@@HolzHammerSagas yes I found one that must be nearly an ounce and a half followed by another smaller on a few feet away. Was on a field I didn't rate much but it now has my interest. I just need to remember it for a few months now as its just been seeded.
@@paulr6922 That time of the year already...
Another great video and thanks bro for sharing! Have a wonderful evening
Thanks BC! 🙏 Hope all well with you!
Well found Alex, I like the Roman brooch. 🙂. Regarding saving video and picture footage. 📽🎬. Technology is not my strong point 😀 my mobile phone doesn't have the internet or a camera so what I do is after each dig if I have found something of interest, I use my camcorder at home to video and take pictures of the finds 🙂 and I then periodically upload the videos and pictures onto my desktop computer. 🙂. To keep all the videos and pictures in order, way back in 2005 what I did was open 2 new files for that year and every year since, one file for coins and one file for artefacts, then about 4 years ago I purchased an external hard drive and put all my files on there upgrading each year's file for safe keeping. 🤗. You might think that is enough archiving but I also keep journal records of every outing and those go way back to the 80's. 😲. P.s. I had to quickly call up 2012 coin file and look at my Roman Silver Denari of Caligula commemorating the death of his mother Aggrippina and yes, he faces right. 😂. HH from up North. 🙂.
gosh, you really don't do things by halves ! Well done being so methodical though I am sure iys the best thing to do! I use a hard drive too - quite handy! Hope all well up there! All the Best, Alexander
Great Video.. Thanks 👍
Thank you Chris! Much appreciated and hope all well!
Ha ha I can't believe Tasci is still chasing his tail! There's an old and rather flaky free download called Drive Rescue that has got me out of dodge with deleted files on SD cards in the past. Lovely video as usual!
I know it drives me mad! He only does it when i am speaking or other people are around its to draw attention!!! Hope all well Stefan thanks for watching!
Very interesting video Alex the brooch is amazing such craftsmanship one of my favourite things to find are Roman brooches not that I find many lol 😊

Thanks Keith i hope you don't get too bored! Hope all well with you!
Yet another enjoyable and informative video. What a cracking R brooch ,your other one you showed with the circular loop would have been worn in a pair with a chain between both (i'm sure you would know that)You mentioned that Caligula coins face left,i'm not surprised as he was a very sinister fellow.@17.30 that is definitely a 16 thC hooked dress clasp,i've been lucky to have found a few plus four silver gilt ones of varying designs.Tasci is looking in top form.
Edward I didn't know that so thank you very much! I will look into that further today! Hope all well with you and thanks for watching - and yes Tasci is on very top form!!! All the Best, Alexander

Beautiful brooch, very informative, grate camera work you can't get any better. Enjoyed and left a like. Jax
Thanks Jacqui! Hope all well! x
Staggering to think that Roman Brooch survived for nearly 2,000 years... the odds of it avoiding modern era mechanized farm machinery rotors and tills must be 100/1 at least!
I know the mind boggles there is hardly a scratch on it its incredible quite literally... though is missing a bit here or there but you cant have it all! Thanks for watching Dean and hope all well!

Hi alex haven't commented for a while but still watching and enjoying your vids 😊
Thank you Glen 🙏 much appreciated and hope all well! All the Best!
when you found the fibula there was a piece of straw under it looking like pin, never mind it is still stunning. Just for future aid, if you accidentally wipe a memory card most recovery programs can pull contents back especially if you do it before re-using the card
Thanks Dave, I don't think it would've been the pin from the brooch it looks like that went a long time ago but you never know; maybe I'll find it next time, next year now as that field has been drilled and the seed is coming through.... Hope all well with you and thank you very much for watching! All the best, Alexander
@@HolzHammerSagas no it wasn't the pin it just looked like it was until you picked it up.

Beautiful brooch. What more can one say. X
Its as good a one as i have ever found! Hope all well Amanda thanks for watching!
Good morning and bless you this Sunday morning ❤️ great find the brooch and editing all proper well done!
Your channel and Terra Germania the German fellow with pet English bull terrier are excellent! Bravo . I have technitiks t2 and live on estates but I don’t get out as much as I should and most detectorists would be envious of the land! I like your sample drawers and I merely use Bisley narrow 1inch type with the normal types and then biggest architects drawers because they are so smooth in operation.
I should do I little video showing my finds! I’m not the best at editing at all though that is a skill and a real art. I am an artist and historian and outlandish collector with impossible items found not buried in soil!
On top of that description I am a Christian truther!
Crikey! Noty sure what that is I will have to look it up! I went to a Catholic Monastery school in North Yorkshire is that must you same thing?! Hope all well!
@@HolzHammerSagas Nice to have a Christian foundation I suppose at a Catholic place although some moan about it, I was a C of E and confirmed by Bishop James from Ripon before the world started going a bit silly in around 2016 , now I read the scriptures myself and distance myself from any major organisations/churches. So basically the name is one I made up Christian Truther I suppose we are like the old ProtestAnts but new we reject all worldly fake pseudoscience and political lies etc etc you wouldn’t believe the level of deception in the world basically all of it is fake except one thing that is the Messiah Lord Jesus son of God!
Well you certanly know your roman, you make me feel a little bit guilty as I just put them in my collection after finding out who the emperor was , good video
As long as you go through them every now and then a d give them the attention they deserve John! Hope all well - thanks for watching!
Nice one Alex, found the same dupondius in badly condition. It looks like Nero for me, thanks for showing me i was wrong 😅 hope you're well ? Cheers m8, see you next time 🙋♂️
Jan, I thought it was Nero too! But then someone on the www.detectinghub.co.uk corrected me and to be fair to me(!) i couldn't find a Nero with that sort of seated goddess ( Ceres) on the back so I was pondering it may not be!!! Hope all well and thanks for watching!
Spitalhatch on an earlier comment suggestion of bringing a brooch back to original glory would be interesting. Obviously not one of your prized ones though. 👍
Yes, Grassy, it could be worth a try I don't know anyone who can do that sort of enamelling though I think maybe better to leave them as they are! Hope all well with you and thank you very much as always for watching

well, caligula was a very sinister swine
Yes, it does seem he was a particularly nasty piece of work - it amazes me how long emperors like him sometimes held the "job" it cant have just been through fear esp as the military tended to have the final say even in those early post Republic days...

Thanks Steve - much appreciated and hope all well! All the Best, Alexander
Quick question how do you do your research into knowing where's going to be Roman or is it just trial and error? Love these videos btw, keep up the good work!
Hi Laurence - with me its generally just trial and error - in fact the better something looks "on paper" usually the sparser it turns out to be... in my experience! When you do come across a site though it soon becomes very obvious - usually from the sheer amount of pottery shards and iron on the ground... anyway, hope all well and All the Best, Alexander

Hi, love the Vids , brilliant, which model camera did you go for please ?
Thanks Rick - much appreciated and ta for watching! The main camera I now use is a sony ZV-1 i think it is (I don't have it to hand...) and i use a DJI pocket 2 and a very cheap go pro type ( Apeman) for low, wide angle stuff... and i use my iphone for the close ups of the finds as i can whip it out fast and it needs no setting up.
