I've been to many Dream Theater concerts. They sound absolutely great live. Everything sounds bad on a youtube recorded video. Mics on personal recording devices are cheap. Take that into account when you critique live youtube music videos.
LOve both IM and DT. THey just have very different styles. Maiden is metal with some prog elements while DT is pure prog. Sometimes prog metal, sometimes prog rock. Have to say that I find DT more diverse than Maiden, but both are great. Maiden has got the edge on melody and catchy tunes.
This is not about "who sings it better" or "who plays it better". To think that, is kind of narrow-minded. No. This is one exceptional band paying homage to another, to whom was a great influence. Imitation, they say, is the greatest form of flattery. Besides, I think it's just freakin' cool to hear great bands play songs from other awesome bands. You never hear them judge or complain. Lighten the fuck up a little!!
I think the only thing Maiden couldn't cover from DT is the double bass drums, since Nicko doesn't like to use them... I'm not entirely sure about guitars, but the three of them have really amazing and fucking hard solos... Dickinson is one of the best metal singers and Steve is... well, Steve Harris. I think they could do a great job...
Oran Gutan IM will never cover as a band their stature will never cover DT...and good instruments doesn't make great songs ...that's the problem with DT...they don't hold a candle to IMs song writing and composition skills...DT in their whole career just kept telling people they can play..but that isn't everything that's the difference between DT and IM,DP,BS and metallica

Alot of people forget that when a band covers another like this, it's a type of tribute to the band being covered. The idea of a cover is not to match the orginal recording exactly. It's a chance for them to add their own touch to a song they like. Cradle of Filth did this song as well in their style, Iced Earth did it as well.
The part of this song where it goes "now he will begin (pause) to understand" reminds me of the part in The Killing Hand where it does the same thing right before it goes "extended a view, to yesterday".
This crowd is evidence all metal fans are prepared to sing maiden at any concert.
Every time I hear someone trying to do Bruce´s vocals it makes me realize how good Bruce is.
