Let me learn ya something youngin’s. 2 Benefits to lift a 2wd truck: 1. Ground clearance for WHEN you wished you had it. 2. It will be is more capable off road with, (at the very least), All Terrain tires. Bonus: That look. If you’re a southern rebel, you’re probably used to going against the grain anyways.
Being an Arizona rat driving fast on crushed granite everywhere, why do I need 4WD? I believe when you lift a 2WD truck, it becomes what's known as a "Prerunner." I LOVE my lifted (4") w/ 33" tires) 2WD truck. I have plenty of ground clearance, and it's so light, all I need is a "come-a-long" if I get stuck. I don't run a winch.
Awesome video!!! I have a 2wd and I’ve had people talk crap about it so I was happy to see you defending the 2wd people. The thing that I think is funny is that people will talk crap saying it’s pointless to lift a 2wd because it isn’t as capable off-road as a 4wd but the thing is wouldn’t I especially want to lift a 2wd and put better tires on it in order to make it as off-road capable as possible... I mean to be honest in any kind of off-roading situation you are at a disadvantage having a 2wd but since I am at a disadvantage why wouldn’t I want to do everything possible to make my 2wd truck more off-road capable? 😂
Haters talk no matter what you have. You have a V6 they talk about you, you have the V8 they still talk about you not having a supercharger, it goes on and on. It's your money
Lift it! Who cares I'd it's not 4wd. But if you actually want a 4wd, don't lift it and save that money for a 4wd. Here's the deal. If you wanna get in to mild off roading and all that just spend the money on a 4x4. If you are mostly on pavement, then who cares, bro lift it, and get some better shocks.
I drive a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche and I have graps on it.. It's a 2wd, I mostly drive pavement and dirt roads. I don't sink or bury my truck because it destroys the suspension. My 2wd will go anywhere I need to go within reason. I've been on dry dirt roads and very wet dirt roads and never got stuck. 2wd is just as goods as 4wd, especially when most of the guys that drive 4wd trucks never get muddy
Most of the guys who talk crap about 2wd trucks don’t even use their 4wd . They got a 4wd and put big rims and little rubber band tires on it. They don’t even take the truck off road. All they have is a 4wd pavement queen.
What happens when the maverick and santa cruz comes and owners lift them up. These are the unibody trucks nowadays. Does bashing the Ridgeline goes away? It is just like a having a dick circumsized or not...it is still a penis.
Love this. I was feeling iffy about lifting my 1984 Chevy 3/4 ton, but honestly I think you've changed my mind. If it looks good and it's cheap why not. Thank you for this!
3/4 ton square body’s will fit a 285/75r16 (33”) tire on stock suspension. They have great ground clearance. They sit quite a bit taller stock than the half tons. But go even more if you want. 😎 Might have use spring spacers in the front. Not much else available for them. Looked a couple years ago for my truck.
I live the Central Valley in California. I don’t see many trails or snow. I’ll go uphill the levees on the Delta for fishing at the most. A 2WD with a G-80 locker on my “15” Silverado is good enough for me!! Thanks for the content buddy👍🏼I’m on vacation 🏖🎢 and still enjoy your vids
I live in south Texas and it’s funny to see so many ppl who have 4x4 giant trucks and jeeps. Unless you go to the beach, there is no reason for it. It has snowed enough to need 4x4 once in the last 20 years. I drive a 4x2 Tacoma for my daily and have my old Tacoma that is 4x4 for when I want to go to the beach. Texas loves their big ol trucks but nobody ever uses the 4x4. Now if I moved back up north I would probably consider getting a 4x4 daily driver.
Larry and Earl are looking sharp. I once bought a new 80 pickup, I didn’t lift it but put some aggressive treaded bigger tires and got a lot closer to my deer stand and favorite fishing hole. Carry on.
I’ve actually built my 2wd truck to have a shit ton of power under the hood, and just the fact that it’s lighter bc of no transfer case, it’s gotten me outta certain situations with rocks, 2wd make killer rock crawlers
Most people don't need 4x4, and if you do, and want the security, get one. That said, all valid points in the video. Cheaper, less things to go wrong, can usually find them with lower milage and not clapped out or abused. Still a truck.
I recently purchased my first truck, which is a 4x2. I've been researching for weeks for a lift kit but I can find anything. I got alot of valuable information from your video.
Hi great video. If ur going off road Then clearance becomes important. I live in British Columbia Canada. so its nice to have a 4x4, but i feel a 2 wheel drive is also ok . The reason being is i would just carry a big winch up front and have it removable to the back of the truck also. Also have 1 or 2 single part pullies can get u out of almost anywhere. 4x4s get stuck also ,so a winch ,a couple of pullies for pulling from different directions , because trees arent always where u want them lol, and of course some extra cable. So to me the only difference is u actually have to get out off ur truck to set up the rigging. So u will be home for dinner just the same lol
I bought a lifted 4x2 SR5 2019 Tacoma and it's treated me well!! It has an, I believe a 3" kit or a leveling kit on it and it drives great! I, however did get it stuck a couple weeks back we hen I slid into a ditch coming out if a friend's driveway.... I still love Steel, what I named my Tacoma due to the color, though!
Pre runner trucks have a special place in my heart. I don’t look at is as they are missing having 4wd I look at them more as a super easy platform to build. Easy to work on, if you re gear it you only have to do 1 axle. Also 2wd trucks get better gas mileage which is huge for me and they are also considerably lighter which is also huge for me. I’m building a 2000 ecsb 2wd Silverado right now and it’s turning out awesome so far.
Bought my first truck (NBS rcsb) and mostly for utility and doing light towing for my project car. Having a truck for such short time I’ve already been in 2 situations in which I would need the utility of a slightly lifted or leveled truck. As much as I would love to drop it and go for an old school look, I don’t want to give up the functionality of what makes a truck a truck.
I've got a 2wd and a 4wd truck. My 1991 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd step side is on black wheels and all terrains. Does ok, pulls my boat, haven't been stuck too bad in the snow when I used to drive it, I'd put 400 lbs of sand bags in the bed between the wheel wells and it got me around in Michigan, Ohio, and Utah winters. My Z71 is on AT's for now, but it has never left me stuck even on slick boat ramps (almost lost my 2wd Ram 1500 on a slick boat ramp pulling out my boat. Had to have a good old boy hook a tow strap on and help me get up to dry pavement). I live in Utah almost a mile above sea level in the mountains and we get snow. Not many 2wd trucks out here unless they are lowered and only driven in the summer. My best friend lives near Los Angeles and he has a huge lift on his 2005 Ram 1500 with 37's. Truck is huge but it's only 2wd. He never gets snow so he hasn't been stuck in the dirt/desert out in California. Point #4: the transfer case on my Z71 had the pump rub a hole through the case. Almost left me stuck in Nebraska on the way back to Utah, had to stop every couple hours and top off the fluid cuz it was leaking all over. Cost $3000 to have that transfer case rebuilt with a new case, billet pump, etc. A 2wd wouldn't have that expense ever.
Both trucks look great!! Overlanding in either of them should be fun and easy. You have enough ground clearance and the right tires. Plus you can do whatever you want with your money and your vehicles… Good job 👏🏻!!
man, im going for it! will upgrade my mitsubishi strada 2021 2wd, lift, tires, mags. everything! because i want it look good, and because why not? its my fckin money!! leta go!!! thanks man, this video really made me decide. subscribed!
The hell with what people think! A lifted truck is a lifted truck. Reality is, unless you go off road constantly, you’re in 2wd 99% of the time. I have a 4x4 truck, and live in the northeast. It snows here. A lot. And my next truck for certain, will be 2wd and I’ll lift it. Here’s why. It’s the tires. Even in snowy conditions, I usually never have to put in in 4wd. Most of the time, we drive on paved roads. Roads that get heavily plowed and salted. 4wd just isn’t needed. Your tires are the only thing touching the road. Invest in good tires and watch the “need” for 4x4 disappear… again, I’m talking about the average person. Not somebody that goes mudding or crawling. Normal driving, 2wd is all that’s ever needed
thanks. im up here in ohio and there are uphill areas in Hocking hills. never took my 2wd truck and was wondering if it would be any good. my tires are alittle slick btw
Just put a 6 inch lift on my 2wd truck 😂 Yeah 4 wheel drive is nice to have every once in a while but honestly a 2wd truck is very capable. I’ve had my 2wd truck for 3 years now and I’ve never needed 4x4. But awesome video!👍🏻
I live in the Houston area and I have never understood the locals insistence that a truck MUST have 4wd. The Houston area is compromised of Harris, Brazoria, Fort Bend, parts of Matagorda, and Montgomery Counties, and for the most part these areas flatter than a tans gender shim before transition....I think. I'm still working on that analogy.
Hey you’re absolutely right, all I could afford at the time it was a 2WD ram 1500,and boy let me tell you I almost died going thru West Virginia thru snow/mud/ice/up hill and almost ended up in a 30feet drop ditch in the boonies, ohh all of this plus pulling a trailer full of crap! So there you have it boys
In idaho, 4 wheel drive is a must. I tried to prove that theory wrong, but then November came around and laughed at me... still got a 2wd because I'm still broke! 😂
Drove a Sierra 4x4 leveled 2.5 with 33s for 3 years in MN winter and took it off road with my buddies every summer, never used 4 wheel drive except one time to pull myself out of a snow bank I purposely drove into to challenge a cummins as a joke lol
I’ve done a LOT of off roading lifted 2wd trucks. They work well for desert exploring. Fire roads. Double track. Etc. Good ground clearance, good tires, and a locking rear will get you pretty far. Just know your limits. Stay out of deep sand, deep mud, and wet snow. They usually ride smoother than a typical torsion bar 4x4 too.
certainly not opposed to lifting a 2wd. That’s why I’m here. Because I want to lift mine. 2wd 2001 Sierra. But also… but also, a 7 inch lift on a 2wd?! 😅 come onnnnn, that’s a bit much don’t you think? i did not know those were available on 2wd before I watched this! haha, to each his own. My thinking is, I want to level mine and then put a modest 2 inch lift on it. And some better shocks. But no suspension mods per se. All for the look!😅🎉🎉
I've owned 2 2wd jeep xjs and both are my D.D. I take them camping and such as well and never had the needed 4wd. Just good tires really is all you need for everyday use, a lite lift is just a bonus.
My biggest issue with 2wd trucks is I live in western South Dakota so as you can imagine the winters can get pretty crazy and it’s quite tough with only 2 wheels spinning instead of 4
👍🏼I have a 2015 Silverado 2WD with a Eibach front adjustable coil and all stock components with 33” Nitto Terra Grapplers. It’s a beast in the trails!!
I had a 93 c1500 single cab long bed , i used to take it to Oceola every weekend to go traill ridinding and muddin . that truck went farther than i ever thought it can go thanks to the g80 locker
Ive got a 00 2wd Ranger and an 02 GMC 1500 2wd both stock suspensions and I run my trucks anyplace I want to. Ive had them in 2 feet of snow and mud up to the frames. Part of it is just how you drive it. Both of mine are manual shift, I wouldnt have one any other way.
Doing this right now, my buddy just bought a clean 99 F150 ,2wd, 4.6 ,auto, we are going to go with a mild 2 inch leveling kit a 32/33 inch tire not too wide trying to stay in the 10:50 to 11 inch area mildly aggressive tire, He really does not need 4x4 right now ,This will give the truck a really good look ,he picked the it up at a very good price so the more we can do to make it look good the more he will get when he flips it in about a year, I've always been a fan of the F-150s about 20 years ago I had a super clean all black 1996 F-150 with windows tinted darker than a black hole lol , a 5.0 auto 4x4 , I really should have kept that truck I kick myself now, there is always those vehicles that you sell and end up regretting, anyway he really wants a 1st gen 4x4 Tacoma extracab, but the right one has not come along yet , I've never been into the lowered look but the one exception I will give is a mildly lowered lightning of the same generation or generation before those are just awesome trucks I've always liked those,, All in all though I agree no reason you can't lift a two-wheel drive to make it look good
I have a C1500 ext cab and I wouldn't mind lifting it. I really don't want to lower it like many do because I really don't like the look and I want the extra clearance because of the roads around here. I'd love to have a K1500 but I just can't find one worth the money they're going for.
When I was first looking for a truck I didn’t want a 2wd because I thought it was stupid and I would get made fun of for lifting it even though I never would use a 4wd but then I saw Larry and liked how it looked and then I thought 2wd were actually cool and it makes people mad too.
I have a 2wd with a locker and I overland a lot of the year in California and I never once have said I really wish I had 4wd . 99 percent of the time you won't need 4wd offroad unless your crawling which I have done in 2wd
You said it. 4x4 gets you OUT of situations. You go driving around in 4x4 and get stuck, you're f'ed. I have an '89 F150 that's a 4x4, and basically stock suspension, I replaced the worn out coils with 2" taller ones so it level. Its still sits higher than my 2wd '99 Ranger that has a 4" lift. Both have 31" BFG Ko2's. Ive never heard anyone actually talk crap about a lifted 2wd. Everyone and their mom has a lifted truck in SoCal. Every kid in highschool dreamed of driving a prerunner, which by definition is 2wd.
Had a 94 Suburban had a cheap fab tech spindle life tires were all terrains off an h2 had the gov lock rear end. Was an amazing right took it to glamis / dumont it ran everywhere no issues just aired down lol
Most owners of a 4X4 live in a suburb with well maintained roads. Most of the time we drive on road. Unless you live in the woods or mountain then yes get yourself a 4x4.
In Mexico and south America they are highly desirable.simplicity, inexpensive and capable with lockers.People actually make a living with their pickups there.
I have a 2wd Silverado and will go tru a trail with no problems pulling a small trailer, they will do fine unless it s used for hardcore off roading in my opinion.
I got a 98 two-wheel drive Ford ranger lifted mainly cuz I do construction and a lot of the places we go I need more ground clearance best decision I ever made and it does pretty decent off-road for being just a two-wheel drive
k but also i still want a tricked out 4wd. Just can’t afford one yet haha. Especially with all this recent inflation in 2021-2024. Which is primarily why I bought another used 2wd truck. And I realized ayeeee why not go ahead and put a body lift on it for fun? So I am!
i umderstand it as its cheap and if you dont go offroad then sure. the problem with most of the people(me) we see it from a practical use. you get a lift for "more" towing capacity and more articulation and or larger tires for the use case of rock crawling your daily driver
I'm looking at a 2000 S10 2wd that's completely stock. All id do to it is a 1 inch. Maybe a 2 at most. Lift and just slightly bigger all terrain tires. A brush guard and light bar for night time. Maybe later on a roll bar but Id like to have a tool box
@@jasonnuno132 it is better to just buy a new one but the conversion highly depends on how you get the parts needed I did a conversion and spent less than $850
I’ve had a 4wd lifted on 35s and only went muddin 1 time. So to me it does make sense on having a lifted 2wd to ride in style or whatever am keep it looking nice then tearing it up especially 4wd and that’s costing pocket change. I don’t have my 4wd anymore. Sold it last year and just recently bought a 2wd and yes my plans are to lift it and ride around in style not having to worry about tearing my truck up so again yes it does make sense to me to do so.
I live in Florida where there is no reason for 4X4. But ground clearance in flooding season is very important.
Thank you bro. Same here
I tow all the time and most 4x4 don't have the proper tow rating I need unless I get a dually but I don't want a dually.
Because of muddin mostly and the fear of being laughed at for getting stuck and we’ve seen all brands fellow Floridian

LARRY! LARRY! LARRY!
People also hate squatted trucks but you don't see many people calling out 2wd guys for being a 4wd poser.
Think they hate the squatted truck community more lol…
Awesome amount of information.. I’m wanting to lift my 2016 F 150, thanks man!
Hahaha.... I think I get the point. Cheers!
Great video man!!! And Beautiful Trucks
that’s a cool truck on the right 😎
I’ve got an 8 inch on my 2wd tundra. You can see the brackets for where the diff is supposed to be held lol
I got a 2018 2wd tundra what lift did you use ?
@@hillbillydelux75 pro comp
I love your 97 F150 so clean. Love the lift mud tires on stock rims super clean you said they are 305s and the 1500 clean too
I’ve done a LOT of off roading lifted 2wd trucks.
I lifted my 2wd because here in Houston it floods and I need to get places lol
certainly not opposed to lifting a 2wd.
My biggest issue with 2wd trucks is I live in western South Dakota so as you can imagine the winters can get pretty crazy and it’s quite tough with only 2 wheels spinning instead of 4
I’m from NC but my grandfather lives in Sioux Falls so I know what you mean with the snow lol
You guys are pussys. I’m in Wisconsin, I throw 500 lbs of sand in the back with winter tires. A g80 locking rear end is the difference here.
If you have a diff lock then 2 will spin
That makes sense for your situation.
Also that’s why WINCHES were invented, not only that looks cool in your truck but also for the 2WD’s to get out of sticky situations
My 2013 prerunner 2wd lifted 6" on 35s love it my way ,total camping truck
Had a 2010 Silverado 2wd, installed a leveling kit and BFG TA/KO2. Thing was a beast in the snow!
👍🏼I have a 2015 Silverado 2WD with a Eibach front adjustable coil and all stock components with 33” Nitto Terra Grapplers. It’s a beast in the trails!!
@@bludragontruck9743 so with a level kit and 35” it’s pretty much the same ?
@@floridalife7564 I would think so
I don't know about a beast but ok. Don't even consider my lifted 4x4 beast on anything actually lol
Great video I never thought that out thank you
I had a 93 c1500 single cab long bed , i used to take it to Oceola every weekend to go traill ridinding and muddin . that truck went farther than i ever thought it can go thanks to the g80 locker
lol now I think I need a 2 wheel drive. Larry is just to awesome. I have the same truck in 4x4 .
Awesome video! Larry & Earl look SWEET NEXT TO EACHOTHER!!😉💯🤙
Man those two trucks look great!! Keep it up!!
2WD makes a great desert truck
Ive got a 00 2wd Ranger and an 02 GMC 1500 2wd both stock suspensions and I run my trucks anyplace I want to. Ive had them in 2 feet of snow and mud up to the frames. Part of it is just how you drive it. Both of mine are manual shift, I wouldnt have one any other way.
I lifted my 2WD simply because I was bored and wanted a project, there’s nothing wrong with having the truck you want.
Love the OBS Chevy I have a 1996 one ton Dooley and have thought about it 👍
Great video
Doing this right now, my buddy just bought a clean 99 F150 ,2wd, 4.6 ,auto, we are going to go with a mild 2 inch leveling kit a 32/33 inch tire not too wide trying to stay in the 10:50 to 11 inch area mildly aggressive tire, He really does not need 4x4 right now ,This will give the truck a really good look ,he picked the it up at a very good price so the more we can do to make it look good the more he will get when he flips it in about a year, I've always been a fan of the F-150s about 20 years ago I had a super clean all black 1996 F-150 with windows tinted darker than a black hole lol , a 5.0 auto 4x4 , I really should have kept that truck I kick myself now, there is always those vehicles that you sell and end up regretting, anyway he really wants a 1st gen 4x4 Tacoma extracab, but the right one has not come along yet ,
I've never been into the lowered look but the one exception I will give is a mildly lowered lightning of the same generation or generation before those are just awesome trucks I've always liked those,,
All in all though I agree no reason you can't lift a two-wheel drive to make it look good
Gotta have the M/Ts for those Walmart parking lots.
Well done, well said brother.
Iagree 100% good job!!!
I've been thinking about doing this for a min. Gonna add a bully bar and a winch for getting outta sketchy boat ramps.
2wd are easier...hands down..to each their own..thats why we are in America.
Amen!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@MrPROGAMER56 so a 2wd tundra can handle everything?
@@floridalife7564 if it's got a locker and a good set of grippy tires yes
@@MrPROGAMER56 I don’t think toyo tundra has Lockers but 2 wheels spin
@@floridalife7564 then I say give it shot with a buddy and if you get stuck you can learn your limitations I know what my truck can go up and can't
You need a dodge ram 1500 to complete the 90's collection
Great video
Most owners of a 4X4 live in a suburb with well maintained roads. Most of the time we drive on road. Unless you live in the woods or mountain then yes get yourself a 4x4.
You put more. Mud tires on a two-wheel drive makes it harder. To get stuck
That’s my plan , get some 35s on 18 in
In Mexico and south America they are highly desirable.simplicity, inexpensive and capable with lockers.People actually make a living with their pickups there.
Love them both of them Bro!!! Thanks for the info!
I have a 2wd Silverado and will go tru a trail with no problems pulling a small trailer, they will do fine unless it s used for hardcore off roading in my opinion.
I was having trouble finding a leveling kit for my 2wd truck, but now Ik what to look for. Thx for the vid.
I agree.. I have both too.. 4xd and 2wd lifted..
So I am!
😂 When the dog came out from under the truck
I agree
Good idea
Loving the content bro!
i umderstand it as its cheap and if you dont go offroad then sure. the problem with most of the people(me) we see it from a practical use. you get a lift for "more" towing capacity and more articulation and or larger tires for the use case of rock crawling your daily driver
you should make a video comparing going through mud larry vs the trail boss
It’s a great way to upgrade any truck
Most of the time it’s ground clearance that’s get the job done …
Those are nice tires and rims on that Chevy 🔥
Makes a lot of sense
2 things.
People are hard on 4 wheel drives potentially just like kids with a vtec
Lifted mine to clear some ruts at my hunting lease. Didn’t need 4wd just clearance.
If you live in a hurricane region of any that floods then a lifted 2wd makes total sense
I'm on ur side bro lowered trucks are stupid all day everyday
You can always convert your 2wd into a 4wd. Making it more capable then a stock 4wd since you have control over the conversion
How much does the conversion usually cost? I heard it’s always better to trade-in your current car for 4wd
@@jasonnuno132 it is better to just buy a new one but the conversion highly depends on how you get the parts needed I did a conversion and spent less than $850
@@justind9631 I am trying to convert my 2019 Tacoma from rwd to 4x4 but I’m not having any luck either
In my experience 4x4 for mud is better. A lifted 2 wheeler with good tires or chains for the snow.
Im fixing to lift my 96 gmc 2 wheel drive two or 3 inches. Put some mud tires on it. I think it will look good.
Sounds like you need a Corolla
@@ham7357 you can have one.
