      You could shrink and create multiple partitions or start fresh by wiping the disk and creating however many partitions you like.

    hello there man, i have a question.
    so i have already drive C, D, and E (os is installed in C) and im planning on getting a SSD and install a new os there, and im planning on making my ssd as my C disk, can i format my C and E disk and then combine it during the Windows installation setup or should i install the windows first and then do it like in the video?

    • @DJHicks
      @DJHicks  7 місяців тому

      If a fresh installation of Windows is possible, I would do that on the SSD. Then you can copy everything from the old drive, wipe it, and have the whole disk as storage. I wouldn't try to pool the SSD and HDD storage. There are transfer programs that can copy your windows installation from an existing drive to a new drive. Samsung makes this very easy.

So I wanna combine these two but dont fully delete everything. So if I combine them only one of them will delete everything?

      I've seen this before. Make sure you're logged in as an administrator and run Disk Management as admin. If that doesn't work try it again after a restart. If that doesn't work, I don't know. It's happened to me with prebuilt PCs. A couple of Asus computers, a Lenovo, and a Dell. I don't know how they lock them down. I didn't see that they were password protected or anything. Good luck.

    • @DJHicks

      Not this way, and that could result in super slow performance depending on the drives and the USB spec. You can try using storage spaces in Windows 10 to combine different physical drives into a single storage space. I don't know if it will work with your USB drives.

    • @DJHicks
      @DJHicks  3 роки тому

      No. You can't extend the drive to another drive. You can use a transfer tool to move the data from your C drive to an SSD. If the C and D are on the same single drive you can move everything from D to C and then extend the C partition after deleting D and then transfer the extended C to an SSD. That's probably the best method. Samsung makes a pretty reliable transfer tool you can use with their SSDs.

    Trying to do this on a 2tb Hard Drive I partitioned years ago. One is deleted and the other is NTFS. I right-click NTFS and select Extend Volume. After following the rest, it returns with this error message: The operation is not supported by the object. Before that, it tells me it’s going to change the volumes to Dynamic (whatever that means). Any ideas?

      @DJHicks  7 місяців тому +1

      Don't change to dynamic. I'd leave it alone. I would have to see it to troubleshoot and I don't want to give you poor advice.

      @@DJHicks I actually managed to combine them afterwards. But I honestly don’t remember how I did it. I think I needed to change it to a different format to do so.

    Can you help please I deleted the other disk and itsays it's free space with 365.76 gb with light green colour on top but I can't extend it to the c disk

    • @DJHicks
      @DJHicks  3 роки тому

      If it's another disk, you can't extend it. If it's the same disk with a different partition, you should be able to extend it if you're logged in as an administrator.

    What do you do if Extend is greyed out and only shows Shrink?

    • @DJHicks
      @DJHicks  2 роки тому

      Make sure you're logged in as an administrator and that you're working with multiple partitions on a single drive and not multiple drives.

    I had 2 of the D: thing and I combined both of them and Now I cant merge it with the C:
    Am I not allowed to do that?

    • @DJHicks

      If D: is a separate drive, probably not. Hard to say without seeing it.

    what do i do if my pc has the c drive on one disk and then the other options on the other disk?

    • @DJHicks
      @DJHicks  7 місяців тому

      That's a different video. You can use two separate disks as one pool of storage, but in my opinion, it isn't worth the effort.
