I'm old enough to remember a little about the steam-powered commute trains. My mom would take me along to pick up my dad from work in Burlingame and then return us home to San Mateo, a trip that often required us to wait at a grade crossing while those trains to roared past.
I never thought about it but it sure seems like it's faster than the allowed max of 79mph. Maybe it was a cowboy at the throttle trying to make up time.
@@ShoresRailfan haha come on man, PTC would have popped the train at 5 over. No more Cowboy shit on the RR. The days of being drunk off of your ass, taking your call, doing a couple of lines of coke to get right, and then running a train all day over the speed limit are OVER.
I'm not familiar with the type air horns that Caltrain uses. I do know that they reduced the amount of air horn use at certain stations back in 2017. Perhaps someone else will have more info.
A whopping 79 miles an hour top speed? Step aside Japan, China, Germany, France, Italy, South Korea, Kenya, Taiwan, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, India, Uzbekistan, Austria, Spain, Russia, Morocco...
Right now they should remain diesel and permanently terminate the electrification project, i doubt that it would work especially in the COVID pandemic.
Why? They can’t terminate it now the emus are almost done most of the poles and or bases are done and in some places wiring is complete why abandon it now?
um then if you were the CEO of a railroad I bet you will say to bring back Alco's or if railfans were the CEO of caltrain, they will probably then use E and F units to replace their F40's
They said it’s for “Better Service” when it’s already good like Look when you get on a Caltrain In San Francisco the train is packed and no one complains on how the train is diesel.
Back in the 1970's I commuted between San Carlos and San Francisco on Southern Pacific. Twice I was on a train that hit a vehicle, once at 25th Avenue in San Mateo and once at Harbor Boulevard in Belmont. No injuries since those confused drivers had vacated their vehicles before the collision.
would loved to have seen this in the old southern pacfic steam days when the commute trains were on both sides of the bay.:)great shots .:)

I like your Railway! Very beautiful trains! Hello from Russia.
Excellent video! These locomotives will soon be just a memory! :(
Good video and thanks for putting the legendary cab car 120 on video
What makes cab car 120 legendary? You're the second person to mention it.
@@ShoresRailfan different Bell/horn, and rarely appears leading
Great compllation
Thanks
Great train videos of the speeding Caltrains!
I was the first guy to run through those crossovers at CP Ralston at 50mph, was on a test train.
Very cool. I rode SP commute service between San Carlos and SF in the 1970's.
5:49 what the hell is that horn
It’s probably a Fowled k2
@@sixfifty_sebb eh probably thanks
Ive heard its a leslie, might be wrong
im confused 1:40 are nippon sharyos with mp36phs normal?
6:46 this one looks like 90mph, opposed to the 79mph normal. is this common around california avenue

@@ShoresRailfan Is there a way that they monitor what speed the locomotive is going
@@josephkrol8330 My guess would be radar just like the police use.
@Shores Railfan The avarage amount of Caltrain action requires a lot of speed.

I noticed that CALTRAIN AND METROLINK HORNS sound the same
I like it when the F4OPH-2CAT is on bi-level cars
I can see it now...ACELAS ON THE WEST COAST ON THE CALTRAN CORRIDOR , THEY STILL WOULD NEED HIGH LEVEL PLATFORMS TO RUN THEM FOR SERVICE..
You mean full speed right?
Just watched the video again.Top speed on the line is 79 MPH and most appeared to going that fast.
What kind of horns do cal trains have?

Most Caltrain cab cars and locomotives uses P2s. But cab car 119 and 120 uses K2s.
They use p2 horns same as the metrolink
Oh yeah Caltrain MP15DCs 503 has P2 and 504 has K3LA.
Who will build your trainsets?

The beginning the lights were scary
I think Caltrain should try some K5LA horns on their trains.
2:06 gotta love 115
I was feeling sick one day and than saw 115 and Ralphed all over my dad.
Anyone else see 120?
Yes, I caught it as well, pretty lucky for both of us
Yep in this video
They should add a rotem cab car
Miguel Palomo NO
Rotem Cab cars are ugly
Oh fuck no they ugly asf like metrolinks
Dont let bro cook again
