Sometimes I'm scrolling youtube and a thumbnail just kinda grabs me :-) You really made it work with a slapchop! You're right that all of those flat, gentle curves aren't ideal for washes, but you did a great job with the undercoat, so it works!!! I like the green, too! I've painted this mini several times with an airbrush, which does a good job on the cloak. Anyway, Happy New Year :-)
Great video 👍. I'm in the process of slap chopping all of the speedpaint dropper bottle caps so there will be no more guessing as to what the colors will look like when applied over a drybrushed zenithal prime.
a good way to make the speed paints perform a little bigger on larger, flat surfaces is to thin them down 1:1 with the speed paint medium and build up a few coats. works great on capes.
Good idea! Thinning down worked great on some other models I've painted here on the channel. I wanted to try this green right out of the bottle only because it was my first time using it. But I think it worked really well!
@@chillminipainting no seriously, it WAS sculpted to look like me hahahaha. The model name in one of the old sets is knight of goobertown or something like that- Andrea at artisan guild sculpted it after I painted some artisan guild minis on my channel hehehehe. :-)
@GoobertownHobbies whaaaaat? That's so cool! Maybe if I paint enough of these I can get one too! Thanks for commenting Brent! I've watched your videos for years 🙂
@@chillminipainting you instinctively knew what color to paint the hair! :-) the wizard in the series is james wappel and I think crossbow guy is 3d printing pro.
That's a sign of a good sculpt I think! The hair was begging to be strawberry blond. That's so funny I had no idea I was painting you and you just so happened to stumble across the video. 😅 I just thought the welcome set from the Artisan Guild was awesome so I printed the whole thing.
Painted these minis with Speedpaint 2.0 for my 11-year-old niece. She DMs for her friends and uses them for heroes. They came out pretty good. I’d upload pics but not sure how to in UA-cam comments. Anyway, your mini looks great! Thanks for this.
With speedpaints, because they flow into crevices, they do sometimes have the problem of being hard to distinguish where one piece ends and another begins like you mentioned. I've found for that, black lining can really help (and black speedpaint can do it pretty well). Outline around some things to make them pop out more and enhance the shadows.
I love watching videos like this - they give me tips, color schemes, and other thoughts as I approach my own. I particularly love them when they are painting something I have or can get. So, when I found this little series I was excited. Especially because you're so measured in your approach, honest in your own self-reflection, and ended up with solid looking results. But as I started to follow along with my own copies of these minis, I realized you don't actually show all the colors you used. In some cases, they're just there. For example, Brent's skin - when did you paint that? What color? And the other armor - you only talked about the bronze, but there's obviously other metallic colors you used. Would it be possible to just list out all the paints you used as part of the description?
Thanks for the comment! It's so cool to know someone is following along so closely. I just wanted to share my painting with folks. To answer your question about the colors, the skin is peachy flesh and the metallic is broadsword silver. I think for this particular video I didn't include it because I accidentally painted it out of frame 😅 getting this stuff on film is trickier then I expected. That's a great suggestion though! I'll add all the paints used in the descriptions.
Hey I'd like to share something with all of you here that I've tried and am happy with the results. I'm painting a lot of Zombicide figures at the moment and rather than go with a black, grey, white slap chop, I've been going with a brown, tan, white slap chop and I feel that for characters with human colored flesh the brown recesses look more natural than black ones. Hope this helps everyone 😊
I almost did that with the undead mermaid set I'm going to paint! I almost went blue for the base coat instead of black. Good to know you're getting good results.
I'm new to painting figures. Tell me do you spray paint the entire model in white or black? Also then you mention dry brushing (which appears to be white in your video) sorry completely new at this
Welcome to the hobby!! 🙂 A dry brush is taking a big brush that has almost all the paint rubbed off and painting your model. The result is what you see here! A light white that only sticks on the raised parts of the mini but leaves the darker color in the recesses. This model was painted black first, then dryburushed with grey and then white.
@nathansell2777 that's is actually how the army painter recommends you use speedpaint, so its not a mistake! It's just a different approach. I was going to try that soon actually...
Speedpaint metallics are a concept, but poorly executed, in my opinion. They do benefit a lot from a wash though! It should give them depth in the shadow areas and cut down the shine a bit. On this textured scale mail it should work! :)
I feel like the speedpaint metallics are a big fail, though i applaud Army Painter for making the effort. For know I think im going to stick with acrylic metallics for the metal bits.
@tp6498 Honestly, I don't even feel like there is a big difference between the acrylic and the speedpaint metallics. I could understand if the logic was just to ensure every pack of army painter paints has a metallic in it...
@@chillminipaintingExactly! They do act like a regular metallic paint, but slightly worse. Or I'm just a dummy and did not find a case where they would make a difference. So for now, I'll stick to my regular Vallejo Metal Color and old pot of P3 Blighted Gold :D
Finally. Everyone keeps painting Warhammer figs with slap chop which works great. Thanks for putting this together.
Thanks for watching!
I like this format of painting. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Omg. These are exactly what I have. Thank you.

I saw that idea! I wasn't going to do it, but I might change my mind...
I look forward to the sequel.

@@chillminipainting yup. Just don't do it with water. Speed paints hate water.
@xxbrkdwnxx yeah totally. Learned that the hard way 😅
That's just Brent from Goobertown!

It would be really, really helpful if you showed the paint bottle or called out the specific color name during each step. 😬
Thanks for that feedback 🙂
Ancient Honey speed paint is much better for a blonde hair color.
I wish I had just done the Zealot Yellow by itself... Next time I'll try the honey! Thanks for watching!
what size brush were u using?
Size 1 in this video! If you use any smaller, the bristles can't hold enough paint.
