- Cardillo wrote this canzone in 1911 and dedicated it to Enrico Caruso, who made the first recording. Alagna sings this familiar song with tightly controlled passion, building and then letting loose before the quietly intense ending. Guitar accompaniment by David & Frederico Alagna.
I’ve loved this song since I was a child (I’m 82 years old). It was also my mother’s favourite Italian song. Roberto sings it beautifully. ❤️🩹Bravo!
Since my childhood was my grandfather taught me language and Atalni the heritage and arts of many countries of the world including Italy ..And I know I speak Italian well ..I have heard this song many artists ..But I Aaakd that this artist is more beautiful than the rich ..How wonderful that his voice strong and can control the layers of his voice with all the beauty and splendor of endless ..Many thanks to those who put this wonderful and beautiful song ..

I've heard tenors interpret this as anger, but I love Alagna's sad, poignant interpretation best. Love the guitars, evokes those same feelings as it reminds me of my dad (Sicilian) playing this on his guitar.
Beautiful indeed, some singers thinks despair is equal to hate, i love Caruso's and Gigli's despair aprouch but this sadness rendered by MAestro Alagna is breath taking also.
