Well they were separated for years, decades and even though they met later it was for a brief moment. They didn't get back together. So yes it was a sad ending. They don't have to die for it to be a sad ending.

This promises to be a beautiful summertime gay romance, just for two, and with a touch of the Series "Close Friend: Dear My Star" (2021) and "Our dating SIM" (2023) because of the letter - chat exchange of XIANG encouraging TIAN that links them both together even before they meet, and that leaves just one main question pending to be answer, and that has nothing to do with "destiny":
Is there a real chance for them to be and live together; or is this just meant to be a one in a life time summer romance?
- Since they are from different countries with completely opposite understanding on gay rights TIAN would have to be the one moving permanently from Hong Kong to Taiwan to be with XIANG, or at least leave that choice open at the end of the movie. For TIAN obtaining the Taiwanese permanent residency is not a complicated legal process; and TIAN could also marry XIANG in Taiwan allowing them both to benefit from the legal support the Taiwanese society.
- IF it ends being a one in a life time summer romance then it would follow stories from other gay films like "Front Cover" (2015); "Call Me By Your Name" (2017); "White Night" (2012); "Present Still Perfect" (2020); "Memory on Page 53" (2016) or "Check Out Special" (2021).
Both endings are going to be meaningful, as real life can only become easy to live and enjoy if we do not complicate its course ourselves with unnecessary attachments or burdens. We will see what the director ANGEL TENG has prepare for us to deal with.
