  • Joel McFarlane is a recent physics graduate from Imperial College London. He’s done tons of investment banking and related internships and has secured a graduate offer in markets (aka the trading floor) at Credit Suisse. In this video we dig into his journey, why he preferred markets to corporate finance, decisions along the way, advice for current students and graduates, and so much more.

This is giving major flashbacks because I literally did the same course at the same uni but went into consulting :P Completely agree about getting to know people and having coffees with people - letting people know what you're working on is so important...otherwise you won't get the recognition for the work you've done! Great video, so many parallels to consulting!

Thank you Joel and Afzal for a great video. Much needed video, I am from a engineering background and math is also my favourite. Investment banking and corporate finance look very interesting.

Really great advice here, would also recommend that students take time journal or make notes after catching up with someone. The more details you can remember after an interaction the more effective that follow up email or coffee can be!
