I am confused.. Are these tarnished characters beeing made by some random mod creators, or are the actual tboi game devs developing these characters and will implement them into the "Standard" game once they have finished doing a tarnished character for each one of the chars?

my favourite thing about tarnished characters is that you don't just do the same thing over and over and do new unique quest for every tarnished character
I may be tripping balls, but considering that ??? is the playable character in the "blue bomber" challenge, i think that the way the creep meter is presented and how the charges work may be a reference to megaman.
Mixing weapons in Mega Man is actually a really cool idea though... some fangame should steal that (i know Mighty Gunvolt Burst has customizable weapons but i consider that different)
Asked a dev in the discord and they said it's not just more fucked up, the misery is in their full control now. Isaac's inevitable rot and death is not his to control and make new items. Cain was always a slave to the bag and had to use it to get anywhere through crafting, but kow he bruteforces it and shoves the items into the bag. Samson uses his anger as he pleases and can die to it if he lets it get to him. Judas shattered into diffrent parts, but now can weaponize them. They're all miserable, and can control it.
@@GhostbusterPalu That was worded a bit weird, but i think the general logic here, which could also be applied to the actual gameplay styles of the characters, is that they can either be overwhelmed by their misery making them weaker, or they can use it as their strength to be stronger; they are no longer tormented by it, but they learned to live with it instead.

Tarnished Lilith: can't move, gives birth to demon offsprings which are the ones you actually play as, and when you die, Lilith respawns you in a starting room
I am afraid of the level of pain that Tarnished Jacob and Esau has the potential to cause I imagine in order to unlock them, you'll need to do an unlock run where every enemy is Dark Esau
...actually, this could be something. All items when you activate the run get "traded" for items a tier lower, and erased if it was already quality 0. And the finale is fighting over the birthright item, empowered in significance by all the item tiers you lost.
You play as Esau and there are more items you can pick up (ie two pedestal items you can take), but through every couple rooms, like a powerup, Jacob comes in and steals one of the items in your inventory Perhaps it could be random, or it could have some metric for you to understand what power will be taken next and the Q item is an active allowing you to "negotiate" with Jacob so you can get a single item back out of three he's taken from you tbh seeing what they've cmoe up with for previous tarnished characters, I think they could come up with something cooler
I like this a lot. Tarnished Blue Baby feels like a logical progression not just on the visual side of things, but in terms of gameplay, too. An aspect briefly alluded to (the ability to combine poop effects via petrified poop on creep) is expanded and made into the whole gimmick. He feels like he has less raw power, but is easier to use.
something missed in the video: frostbite doesnt apply to flying or heavy stationary enemies (like boils) and for those, icy creep just causes them to turn to ice on death
Well, yeah! That's what they are trying to do with the Tarnished characters, by building upon the mechanics introduced by the tainted versions (also including something from the base characters whenever possible).
it is one of the best ones, however its not as good as it appears in the video since the light beam only does damage after it fully appears which takes a second so the enemy might have moved away to the point where the light beam misses
we know the game is issac's thoughts and memories as he's dying inside the box, it's like isaac was aware of his fate in this cutscene when selecting who he is

i like how it represents the transition from t. bb to forgotten. really hope they do something similar with trn. forgotten and the souls transition into the lost
Also apparently icy bag has something called 'brain freeze' - if you damage enemy within 0.2 seconds of gaining frostbite effect, then Isaac will deal 70% more damage, instead of 50%. And for bosses you can damage them within 0.8 seconds to gain that effect!
Got an idea about how an hypotetical Tarnished Jacob/Esau could get unlocked. First, it would make sense if it was just Tarnished Esau, in contrast to Tainted Jacob. I would center the unlock in the "Red stew" item (Which is closely related to the biblical history of Jacob and Esau , in which Esau gave his birthright in exchange of a bowl of lentils. Maybe forcing the player to keep the buff active from the starting room to a certain point? This could showcase how's Esau's anger never fade out after Jacob got his birthright, maybe even an alternative history where he managed to kill Jacob and recover his birthright, but drowning himself in sin in the process. Or maybe an inverse mode of Tainted Jacob where you are the pursuer instead if the victim

it would have been nice if you added the sprite of the mix creeps by doing something like [poop bag] + [poop bag] = [SPRITE], but i guess it was already difficult enough to get all of the 45 combinations (btw i do know im calling them the wrong thing, im just too lazy to go check the video for the correct name) (great video!)
