Makes a lot of sense. New car inflation is ridiculous: many have doubled in the last 5 years. For a mid-range compact crossover you're looking at £30K+. Would be fine if wages had gone up as well.
As always great review Nicola, targeted at the right audience, the folks that will buy this are likely not interested in frills and extras. Really a more then decent looking car, reminds me of a Subaru Crosstrek here in north america, the tiny engines are pretty standard for the UK but wow, 0-60 in 16 seconds, thats for SE Asia only where you'd barley ever go 30mph. Great review, all the right energy and perspective, top marks!
Your speed limit is only 50 mph so what’s the problem , sooner or later your gonna have to ditch your V 8 gas guzzlers , we’ve been doing it for years , and our UK speed limit is 70 mph on motorways !
@@charlestaylor8566 You have obviously never been to the United States. The speed limits are set by individual states. Most states have speed limits on limited access highways of between 70 and 80 mph. Texas has sections where 85 mph is permitted. On country roads the limit is usually 55 mph. American vehicles are not powered by gas guzzling V8's either. Trucks and luxury vehicles yes but a overwhelming majority of vehicles are powered by 4 or 6 cylinder engines.

Also people drive far in north america, so nice to have something good on the highway you can pass with over long distances. But small cars with turbo-diesels from europe are pretty awesome! Just got ours, a Bi Fuel Stepway Comfort. Why wouldn't you go for the Bi Fuel? £17 of LPG for 204 miles on our last top up. We don't think it's noisy. In fact, we both commented on how quiet it is. The engine does have a lovely growl when you put your foot down. Dont agree about the handling either. We both like "spirited" driving and it handles that fine. So impressed with it that my only regret is we didn't buy 2 so we could have one each. The price has gone up 10% since we bought it. :-/
Nicola, love your review. I am collecting one in April. I got rid of mondeo which was sooo thirsty (2l, 240bhp ecoboost, not really eco around town). I'm hoping to run Sandero much cheaper on lpg.
Nice review. I certainly fall into the A-B category and I think this one does look quite good. Saw one in blue at my local dealer, pretty impressed with new version.
Having a few tens of thousands in a rainy day bank account and a lot more money in diversified investments feels much better than having a fancy car. But if you calculate how much you could spend buying a new expensive car over a lifetime the two situations are equivalent. Don't seem rich, be rich.
We have driven two Stepways, and two Sanderos this week at two dealers, We can live with the styling, and the price for a new car is obviously good, however, they are truly awful to drive with the exception of the Auto Stepway, the steering is badly weighted and also way too sharp, it's also very twitchy over rough roads, we currently have 2016 tdci 1500 Fiesta, and granted it isn't the best car out there and it has 60k on it, but there is no comparison, you just get in it and drive just like any other car out there, but the Dacias need you to be careful as the way the power (what there is) comes in quite high up the revs, above 3k ish, so you are having to change down for the slightest hill. there is also an anomaly where you cannot have the automatic on the bi-fuel cars for some reason, which has 10 more horses to play with, the 90 hp auto Stepway was the best out of the bunch but we wanted the economy of the dual fuel, I think we'll be sticking with the fiesta.
Yep. But you should remember that Sandero is just a tractor. The Japanese tried to learn the secret of Sandero and shiped it in Japan piece by piece. When they were done assembling it, they had a tractor. At the Geneva Motor Show the Japanese admited the industrial espionage and asked the Dacia engeniers how did they manage to build this car, when they were able to build just a tractor. The response: we are building a tractor too, but we are grinding it a lot around the edges.
A very honest appraisal of a very reasonably priced car. I think you covered all of the pro’s and con’s in a balanced way, and although I wouldn’t buy this car, I did very much enjoy your presentation. Thank you for a great video.
Its a shame Skoda became a VW / Seat clone instead of a value brand it should have been. I drove a Fabia for nearly 20 years and bought it back when Skoda were a value brand. Unfortunately the Duster is suffering from pricing hikes. Dacia have some competition with that model now that the new version is considerable more expensive than the '017 plate Duster special edition I currently drive
Watched it all... I couldn't help but feel patronised by some of the reviewer's comments in this review, and as much as the reviewer gave a seemingly positive review, it was perfectly clear to me that she would never buy one.
James May of Top Gear ''loves the Dacia brand''. He's an intelligent guy. He's also rich, but shrewd. You can have a Ferrari or Rolls Royce but in a traffic jam they go as fast or as slow as the other traffic including the Sandero Stepway LOL. Also, car buyer, don't forget the bi fuel is a really sensible way to go. I like ''unassuming and competent'' . Oh scrummy I could have a picnic. But I can afford some champagne as I am not paying £24,000 for a.......Ford Fiesta. ''Fantastic value for money'', you're on the money girl. The 999cc TCe engine in my pre facelift 2020 version is exactly the same as a Clio. It puts out just over 100 bhp and even in pre facelift form this car is absolutely fine and does the job. £24,000 for a Fiesta ? I can think of plenty of other things to spend my money on rather than an over priced Ford. Nice review Nicola. A career in Top Gear beckons?
What a refreshing change. Let's all buy one of these and cock-a-snook at the other manufacturers who keep loading their cars with ridiculous technology.
@@GarethColquhoun The problem with your comment is that Matt is a childish be***nd, and he would probably admit that himself. Not everyone is interested in drag races, and whilst I do enjoy them myself, it is refreshing to just see a plain simple car review. 🏴
Why are motoring journalists hung up on soft touch plastics? I've never gotten into a car and held onto the dashboard or pressed the plastics to see if they're soft. It's completely rediculous.
A quick reminder for all the 1 liter engine haters. Formula one cars have an 1.6 engine and still can produce around 800hp. Its the advance in turbocharger and boost technology that makes a car produce more power and be more economical, not the engine size.
Looks good, but basicly everything on that car cost extra. With the basic model the swithes for the AC is just black plasic that feels like its going to break anytime, you get steal wheels, you dont get navigation ecs ecs. I would like to see the basic Sandero tested, not the all inclusive Stepway. That would be more fare against the Fiesta. And for 11 grand you would get a much better second hand car than a brand new Sandero anyway.
I just went to order a new one and they told me demand is so great you have to wait six months, Which to be fair is a long long time, when you want a new car, shame though, so I am sticking with my honda jazz, for now,i did the test drive is my brother's second hand 2018 plate and loved it, so i thought yes that's for me as well, then came the bombshell 6 months ,so if anyone knows where you can get a brand new one much sooner ler me know.
what is the compaction ! and how do they compere on price i have hade 4 ore 5 possibly more over the years renault fuego 19 clio and all have gave me problem's over years expensive one s i dont will not get another
Must say, and I've never ever had the desire to buy a Dacia....., this car looks like Dacia/Renault have given it a horse syringe size injection of style. To me, it comes across as far more attractive than the reviewer gives it credit for.
If you buy one of these, I don't understand why you would spend the extra 6 grand for some frills that will probably break. Go for the basic option. Steel wheels and plastic bumpers are more practical anyway.
@@georgedowns4034 It isn't. When you buy one of these you don't buy it for its fancy colours or the state of the art sat nav. You buy it for its price, so you might as well go for the cheapest one. For 8 grand you have a decent car from a major manufacturer. It's the same price as your average shitbox was in 1990, and that is without taking inflation into account, and it is considerably better than anything you could buy at that price at the time.
@@willemm granted it does get alright equipment but for me, spending about 3 grand extra to get some actual useful stuff like radio, air con & parking sensors would make all the difference. That's the thing, isn't it? You can have a brand-new Dacia with all the right kit, or a two/three-year-old Ford Fiesta in a lower spec. A good choice, Tan!
It's way better looking car outside than Corsa, Polo, Fabia, Fiesta and 100HP version with factory installed LPG is best buy for everyone. There is no reason and common sense to buy or recommend 90HP version at all if you have even 3% brain in your head for just a few hudred euros or pounds extra.
LPG is less common in the UK, so you'd need to be sure you could fill it up regularly to take advantage of the cost savings. But if it works for you that's great!
Dacia UK has no price difference between petrol or dual fuel. In Spain we've just had to stump up 500 euros more for the lpg option but hey, the overall price was 2k less than an identical UK spec.

Or this may be a great option with all the extras it can come with for the budget they can afford. Especially compared to others in this field. Dacia really are doing a great job with these models and are giving alot of people a fresh decent and we'll equipped option for their money, they are showing some more expensive brands how it can be done really, even the added touches to the interior to break it up are better then some more expensive Kia's or Hyundai's interiors just now.
You got it!
James May approved! 👍🏼
Smart, simple solid = perfect for the vast majority of people who just want reliable affordable transport. If I was looking for a new car I would definitely consider this. Love that colour too.
Absolutely right - you've hit the nail on the head.
I got this car with lpg or GPL and petrol. It's fricken great. Cheap to run. Loads of mod cons and compared to other cars on the road looks great. High ground clearance, I take it on rough track sometimes. Roof rack works. Took a roll of Astro turf home the other day. Been running for only three months so can't tell you about reliability yet, but so far so good. Touch wood.
I own a Logan LPG 1.0 and it's great. I didn't have any problem and I understood that the first time the LPG pressure sensor will break
I'm an a to b girl, I don't use a car alot so didn't want to spend loads but I've ordered the stepway in orange, automatic, it was such a lovely drive, didn't notice the noise either.
Great review Dacia offer unbeatable value, love my Duster.
Good choice!
This car looks really good
We know you really wanted to say that about the host but your wife was watching hehe
yes, you'll see them driving all the time. Indeed a Fiesta allmost costs double. You have to be hard core Ford to buy one.
I like Nicola a lot 😍 sassy and classy yet so funny 😄
"The Lord knows we all need to cut back on our screen time" 😂 I love you!!!
From Bentley to Dacia and all with style.
Another quality review, 👏🏽
We do it all at Carbuyer!
Thanks! We'd definitely recommend one of the more powerful engines.
@@charlestaylor8566 No doubt you don't need 300hp in a Crossover to merge with traffic, pickup trucks with v8's and turbo v6's are rediculous until you start to tow something big or just enjoy how powerful they are now (and ludicrously expensive)Roads are pretty wide here too compared to B-roads. Also people drive far in north america, so nice to have something good on the highway you can pass with over long distances. But small cars with turbo-diesels from europe are pretty awesome! (and great choice in manual transmissions!) Also generally gasoline and diesel is far far cheaper here then in the UK (taxes)
Good looking car especially in the metallic Orange.
Great review, thanks! I've ordered mine a slate grey prestige bi-fuel version as I have a local LPG station. I have a previous gen Stepway and that's been a great car, it just reminded me of the 05 clio I had years ago just a bit much. The new one is very plush in comparison and feels very confident and capable on the road. Once it' is delivered, as unfortunately things are a bit up in the air about deliveries no matter which manufacture you go to. Looking forward to my new Stepway very much. :-)
Excellent review and totally true. Not everybody cares about performance and quality. Sometimes it’s just about kids to school and the Tesco shop.
I've got an essential spec Stepway, would you be impressed if I covered the door handles with a bit of tin foil?
Pictures please!
I recently had to opportunity to ride in the new Logan (which is pretty much identical from the interior design perspective) and it wasn't bad... At least compared to the older models which were meh
It has LED lights, and they are amazing
Clicked faster than a Rimac does 0-60
😂
Good one 👍🏼
As long as that
I miss Saab
Sandero knows how to treat a girl 😂😂😂
and how to treat her right
😁💖😁
@Son Of Rabat its a reference to what the host in the video said. Maybe better if you get over yourself, bio-organic co2 neutral lgbtq++deluxe karen
looks better then the fiesta especially the front
Why would you not recommend getting the CVT Auto?
I have the same question, seriously interested in buying it with CVT
Every Dacia model is best what u get for money
I don’t know why I love them but I do

I’m amazed that no car journalists are emphasising the fact that Dacia are offering an automatic transmission for the first time ever! who can be bothered to depress the clutch every time the car needs to change gear 😂
Dacia fitted an auto gearbox in the Duster back in 2017, but in reality the manual was a better bet!
@@carbuyer was that just to the duster or the sandero too? I’m interested in getting one just cba with manuals anymore lol
Value for money was always the point of this car and it looks decent enough.if you are just running round town there's not a thing wrong with this
Nicola is going after Mat Watson with these videos. Informative, entertaining and nicer to look at than Mat.
Oh yes, I remember the German brand fanboy.
WV and Skoda has the same plastic all over the dash and door panels... In Dacia , I get it, but I don't understand why on those cars.
*I LIVE IN BULGARIA* where basically every taxi is a Dacia - they do 400,000km - what more do you need to know...???
If it gets you from A to B thats all that matters
Just got ours, a Bi Fuel Stepway Comfort. Why wouldn't you go for the Bi Fuel? £17 of LPG for 204 miles on our last top up. We don't think it's noisy. In fact, we both commented on how quiet it is. The engine does have a lovely growl when you put your foot down. Dont agree about the handling either. We both like "spirited" driving and it handles that fine. So impressed with it that my only regret is we didn't buy 2 so we could have one each. The price has gone up 10% since we bought it. :-/
Very good car with LPG
I really like these cars they are cheap, reliable and decent on fuel what more could you ask for
Nicola, love your review.
This really could be the perfect car for you...
WOW...
One minute - glamming it up in a £200k Bentley...
The next - slumming it in a £14k Dacia...!!
What a life...! ;-)
We cover them all at Carbuyer! That's what's so great.
The access has a2dp bluetooth so you have in car data via your phone and music via your phone so no need for radio
Perfect first car to buy if your a young driver, or second car to get to complete your trophy car
Having a few tens of thousands in a rainy day bank account and a lot more money in diversified investments feels much better than having a fancy car. But if you calculate how much you could spend buying a new expensive car over a lifetime the two situations are equivalent. Don't seem rich, be rich.
Good review. Upbeat and informative
Much appreciated!
I gotta say, this is one of the best car reviews i've seen in a while on UA-cam, congrats!!! and keep it up
yes, agreed...I enjoyed her presentation. Very good.
A very honest appraisal of a very reasonably priced car. I think you covered all of the pro’s and con’s in a balanced way, and although I wouldn’t buy this car, I did very much enjoy your presentation. Thank you for a great video.
Glad you liked it!
Dacia are the new Skoda
Fast becoming quite a cool car and rightly so.
Think you might be onto something there...
@@carbuyer Stick a Renault badge on that car and looking in the street 90% wouldn't know the difference
00:01 best pronunciation for "Dacia"
Don't agree with the implication that Dacia owners aren't passionate about cars... the first 40 seconds would be best forgotten about.
Watched it all... I couldn't help but feel patronised by some of the reviewer's comments in this review, and as much as the reviewer gave a seemingly positive review, it was perfectly clear to me that she would never buy one.
Nicola reviewed a Bentley last week - she won't be buying one of those either!
Great review 👍🏻
2:27 that sentence had me in the first half not gonna lie
I’ll say it again carbuyer. Hold on to this presenter. Your channel will grow leaps and bounds.
Better yet get her to drag race!
We'll leave the drag races to everyone else. We're here to present helpful, pragmatic new car reviews; loads more content to come!
Leave the childish drag races to that b*llend on Car Wow
@@GarethColquhoun I've been following Matt for nearly 10 years so I think I'm more than capable of making a valid comparison.
It just makes the car feel more upmarket and solidly built. Cheap, hard materials have the opposite effect.
A quick reminder for all the 1 liter engine haters. Formula one cars have an 1.6 engine and still can produce around 800hp. Its the advance in turbocharger and boost technology that makes a car produce more power and be more economical, not the engine size.
saw this today. that why this was recommended? Surveillance going really well for big tech I see
I saw one in silver or grey, what a car!
Two questions please?
1) when will Nicola’s trousers get their own UA-cam channel?
2) are you going to be doing a review of the Enyaq?
1) We've got too many cars to review for that
2) and we have an Enyaq coming very soon...
imo it is not that the stepway is particularly cheep it's that the other brands are heavily overpriced, but that's just me i guess.
I'm looking at this car - just off to visit my local LPG outlet to see how it all works.
what is the compaction ! and how do they compere on price i have hade 4 ore 5 possibly more over the years renault fuego 19 clio and all have gave me problem's over years expensive one s i dont will not get another
Loved the review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Must say, and I've never ever had the desire to buy a Dacia....., this car looks like Dacia/Renault have given it a horse syringe size injection of style. To me, it comes across as far more attractive than the reviewer gives it credit for.
Styling is subjective - we'll leave that part to you.
@@carbuyer Indeed, it is subjective. I note, though, that the balance of opinion in the comments here, seem to agree with me about the car's looks.
If you buy one of these, I don't understand why you would spend the extra 6 grand for some frills that will probably break. Go for the basic option. Steel wheels and plastic bumpers are more practical anyway.
No basic is horrific
And would still be just 11 grand. Plus, if u went for basic one, u might as well just get a much cheaper, older car with much better value. Cus who actually wants a car with no radio or air Con? Literally nowone...
Amazing review Nicola
Thanks so much!
Went to salon for potentially buy it few days ago, before I saw 1.0, surprised me I must say, too bad, everything else felt super smooth tho.
i test drove one of these. loved it. never driven a dacia before, never dreamed id want one! i did order the comfort sandero ( not the stepway). good looking cars imo, will be my first ever brand new car. rather have one of these than a fiesta or golf like everyone else! ive had them all, currently drive an alfa. might not be cool but im looking forward to having a dacia.
Have you seen the new logo, it's very cool
That's the thing, isn't it? You can have a brand-new Dacia with all the right kit, or a two/three-year-old Ford Fiesta in a lower spec. A good choice, Tan!
@@oliverstemp9132 yes i have, i like it too. are you a dacia owner?
@@carbuyer exactly! got everything i want, and like i say they are good looking cars too, im hoping to keep it as long as possible. cant wait!
I have a new Fiesta Titanium. Brilliant car, but this sensible Dacia looks pretty nice as well. I could live with that. As with your trousers ))
6:46 was so damn funny considering I've been driving a 45 hp machine. 😂😂
That is a good car for little price
Too right - for value it can't be beaten!
