    Good to do these interviews, that was quite an insight. Been a fan of Lizzie since she, Jo and Katie came to our tt course one evening for a warm down session in 2008. No one wanted to go before them for the risk of being beaten. Was an eye opener on my first time trial and fun for us all. Well done for the amazing performances, big inspiration.

    With the announcement that the prize fund for the women’s tour will be the same as the men’s tour should the the women do the same distance on each stage as the men?
    Hardly equality if the men have to race further to get the same prize money!

    • @andrewfraser3192
      @andrewfraser3192 6 років тому

      Emma Pooley totally agree. There are plenty of other sports where men and women compete over the same distance such as running (women don’t run a shorter marathon) so why not cycling. Come on UCI.
      I can understand the anger if women were racing the same distance as men and the prize fund was less but if they are riding shorter distances should the prize fund be the same?

    • @bonvoyage5377
      @bonvoyage5377 6 років тому

      But men are physically stronger, of course they ride further. Why not have the under 16s racing the seniors on the same course. What your saying is that because they are female, they should be paid less!!! You probably dont realise just how sexist you are, Jeees, I thought this was the 21st century

    • @andrewfraser3192
      @andrewfraser3192 6 років тому

      bon voyage physical strength has nothing to do with it, it is about parity. As mentioned in the comments above from Emma and myself there are other sports where men and women cover the same distance regardless of whether men are perceived to be physically stronger. A marathon is the same distance for men and women. The distances covered in an ironman event are the same for men and women so why should cycling be different?
      Should a youth rider ride the same course as a senior? No. Should the winner of the youth event that rides 25 miles get the same prize money as the rider of the senior event that rides 80miles? No. Therefore why should the stage winners of the women's tour get the same prize money as the stage winners in the men's tour when the men have raced a greater distance? Remove the gender focus and say it is a junior tour and a senior tour where the juniors ride shorter stages but get the same prize money as the seniors. Is that fair?
      I'm all in favour of women getting the same prize money as the men but I feel that they should ride the same distances for it. Is that really sexist or just looking for equality - something that women have fought for for years. It is the 21st century after all.
