Bro i so wish you were still active in this industry. Common sense and explain your troubleshooting. Hope you landed in a training position somewhere making good technicians.
I recently bought a 620. I assume you are using a ONX630. Would you mind sometime showing all the options your meter has in the software options screen as my company will be buying one soon and need all the EXPERT options you have. Viavi sales says all it needs is the TSX package and it will have all options but I bet you know more about the meter then they do. I really like my 620 its has the IPX package. No experts no sweep. Really really enjoy your videos i subbed. You have a very natural training voice and rhythm. Makes listening and learning easy thank you!!
PlymouthVT - Unfortunately I am on vacation for a few weeks and do.not have access to my meter. I will write it down and try to address your question when I get back. Thanks for being a fan. I am glad to hear positive feedback.
are you sure you mean channel EXPERT or ... channel CHECK ? Now... what you need to understand is this and.. Because your explanation was not really clear i'm going to ASSUME that you mean the red or blue lines during the scan stage in Channel View. Ok.. so it goes like this when the scan starts it has a bunch of pre determined plot/sample points (this is BEFORE it actually scans that frequency) so.. it sets those up then it starts from left to right, or... Lowest frequency to highest frequency at this point, you just see Dots and No lines Now... as it scans the first frequency 2 things happen 1. it obtains a channel Lock if this is done, the line initially turns blue 2. it will obtain further reading of a) Amplitude / level b) Quality Readings, such as PRE BER, POST BER, MER. ECHO etc etc.. Depending on how your meter is setup, what licenses you've purchased, what signal modulation is being interpreted , etc.. but basically they are QUALITY readings Now... the meter has to also interact with THE INTERNAL TEMPLATE and that template called LIMIT PLAN (Usually, but it can be called other things) is the thing that defines the colour change you see, if you have a strata sync account, you'll know this. but most tech's don't You have 3 states in a signal PASS THRESHOLD FAIL if it's a PASS it stays BLUE if it's a THRESHOLD it turns (Orange i think) if it's a FAIL it turns RED so... either your meter is not finding a lock on the signal in which case the lines will be grey or no line at all Now this can happen for a few reasons 1. Bad cable 2. No signal from carrier 3. Your meter is faulty 4. you're testing the wrong signal Example.... it's a DVB-C Meter (meaning.. it's testing a Cable Signal and let's assume the modulation is QAM256 for arguments sake) Now.. if you pop it on to a signal YOU THINK is QAM256 but it's actually COFDM Modulation, well.... the meter won't interpret the quality readings of the signal and won't find a signal lock you will however see the signal in SPECTRUM MODE but you'll only see the amplitude of the signal and the waveform, you won't get the quality readings so long story short if it doesn't lock, you need to find out why if it says NO SIGNAL DETECTED then there's a no signal issue maybe it's you, maybe it's the carrier, maybe it's the cable if it detects a signal but doesn't lock either faulty meter incorrect signal or Bad signal but... the colours are based on the template plan, Nothing more the meter itself doesn't decide if a signal is good or bad or pass or fail the user decides that via the template they set up in the strata sync account that is pushed to the meters via strata sync if there is no limit plan in place, you are basically relying on the default limit plan to do your job, I WOULD HIGHLY ADVISE AGAINST THAT
I just started using the oneexpert...I love it but I've had three homes that read "non unique home detected" one was a DTV splitter and a power inserter... The other two I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. Any idea what that means exactly?
@@mikearthur8129 I do have another issue that I haven't been able to figure out though. When looking at noise using test probe plugged into tap the noise floor raises to where I cant see noise humps that aren't super tall?
do you use sweepless sweep when tracking the issues from tap to tap? i realize the levels will be lower but will it pick out the standing waves and suck outs?
Honestly it can vary depending on the design and splits in the system. Usually around 24-30 homes in town where the homes are close together. In the country where property is larger each amplifier may only serve 4-6 homes before needing amplified again.
Hi, what a start by thanking you for the information the reason I’m asking questions I live in Sydney Australia and the NBN? Installing HFC cable in our area the cable is overhead cable and as been lying dormant for several years at least but the units I live in will be receiving the HFC cable underground and at some stage will be connected to the overhead cable. Not sure how it will go but I predict they will be some teething problems at least.
Yeah these kinds of projects can always uncover some unexpected setbacks. There are newer HFC designs though that reduce the amount of amplifiers per neighborhood using a Node + 0 or Node + 1 design which might be implemented there as well.
I hope that you’re right the NBN as purchased Docsis 3.1 with an room at price of 88 million?. Two run the HFC better? ,have another question what happens to a HFC cable if somebody builds several a very large apartment block do you put in a new cable or can you expand the old cable the reason I’m asking this again hope you do not mind in my neighbourhood there is quite a number of high-rise units going in 5 to 6 stories high in fact.

You're doing the lord's work. Thanks. You should start a VLOG of troubleshooting plant with the ONX. Subscribed.

Are you going to do more videos. They are very help. We started using the only meter and it very help with the echo. Thank you very much.
daniel garza - Yes. I will make more as I find issues. Im currently busy training new techs but hopefully I can get one or two new videos soon.
I like the name of your sweep reference. 👍
Thanks! Me too!

Yo is this dusty 😂👀?
What are your pass/fail thresholds for echo? I’ve had pretty high echo before and channel check had never made the channel turn red.
just thought of something..why won't my ONX show blue or red when doing full scan on channel expert? I'm still kinda new to this meter.
are you sure you mean channel EXPERT or ...
channel CHECK ?
Now... what you need to understand is this
and.. Because your explanation was not really clear i'm going to ASSUME that you mean the red or blue lines during the scan stage in Channel View.
Ok.. so it goes like this
when the scan starts it has a bunch of pre determined plot/sample points (this is BEFORE it actually scans that frequency)
so.. it sets those up
then
it starts from left to right, or... Lowest frequency to highest frequency
at this point, you just see Dots and No lines
Now... as it scans the first frequency 2 things happen
1. it obtains a channel Lock if this is done, the line initially turns blue
2. it will obtain further reading of
a) Amplitude / level
b) Quality Readings, such as PRE BER, POST BER, MER. ECHO etc etc.. Depending on how your meter is setup, what licenses you've purchased, what signal modulation is being interpreted , etc..
but basically they are QUALITY readings
Now...
the meter has to also interact with THE INTERNAL TEMPLATE
and that template called LIMIT PLAN (Usually, but it can be called other things) is the thing that defines the colour change
you see, if you have a strata sync account, you'll know this. but most tech's don't
You have 3 states in a signal
PASS
THRESHOLD
FAIL
if it's a PASS it stays BLUE
if it's a THRESHOLD it turns (Orange i think)
if it's a FAIL it turns RED
so... either your meter is not finding a lock on the signal
in which case the lines will be grey or no line at all
Now this can happen for a few reasons
1. Bad cable
2. No signal from carrier
3. Your meter is faulty
4. you're testing the wrong signal
Example.... it's a DVB-C Meter (meaning.. it's testing a Cable Signal and let's assume the modulation is QAM256 for arguments sake)
Now.. if you pop it on to a signal YOU THINK is QAM256 but it's actually COFDM Modulation, well.... the meter won't interpret the quality readings of the signal and won't find a signal lock
you will however see the signal in SPECTRUM MODE
but you'll only see the amplitude of the signal and the waveform, you won't get the quality readings
so long story short
if it doesn't lock, you need to find out why
if it says NO SIGNAL DETECTED then there's a no signal issue
maybe it's you, maybe it's the carrier, maybe it's the cable
if it detects a signal but doesn't lock
either faulty meter
incorrect signal
or Bad signal
but... the colours are based on the template plan, Nothing more
the meter itself doesn't decide if a signal is good or bad or pass or fail
the user decides that via the template they set up in the strata sync account that is pushed to the meters via strata sync
if there is no limit plan in place, you are basically relying on the default limit plan to do your job,
I WOULD HIGHLY ADVISE AGAINST THAT
Because full scan does not have min max thresholds like one check does
I just started using the oneexpert...I love it but I've had three homes that read "non unique home detected" one was a DTV splitter and a power inserter... The other two I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. Any idea what that means exactly?
Dustin Elliott I have not seen that error yet!
I too have had this error appear a few times
Directv barrels, splitters etc use high return loss. You jack 30dbmv on return loss, essentially fielding an unuseable threshold on lower channels.
Is there a way to make the meter not think the levels are to high when you add compensation?
maybe switch your location
@@mikearthur8129 I figured it out lol, the channel plans have to be manually added though the website by admin.

What stylus are you using? Can't quite make it what it says
It is just a run of the mill amplifier pod tweaker tool. Not a stylus.
