55 mum of 4 adults. I will be making potato salad, banoffe pie and a pavlova tonight, my husband is cooking chicken and Turkey breast in the morning, and the prawns are already cooked and ready. Family will bring other assorted meats, salads and desserts. No bloody way am I slaving away in a hot kitchen on a hot day. Cold meat and salads, and fun in the pool for everyone, including me. Also Jen describes them as “close to our age”, but only the woman on the left is. The other two are in their 70s! They’ve actually recorded an updated version this year where they changed the intro and replaced the “don’t buy your presents from the Oxfam shop” line with “if you find yourself presented with another potted plant// don’t drop your trousers and moon at your aunt” 😂 They’re fabulous

I remember being embarrassed at being the center of attention for any party, even for my own birthday. I always had the feeling that there’s nothing special about a birthday. Everyone has them.
I'm a picky eater for so many reasons - can't, don't, won't. I don't expect others to adapt to my kookiness. I bring my own food, enough for everyone to share if they choose to ,OR I go grocery shopping when I get there and buy what I need. No one should accomodate my issues!

HI GIRLS!!! I have not watched the show since the election results and still do not believe it. This time of year is the worst for me. My children all live in Canada, I have no relationship with my grandkids other than sending money to them ie birthdays and Christmas. We have outside lights but nothing in the house. I had surgery 3 days ago so forget the deco for this year. Also, Thank you for the most honest and true podcasts I have listened to. OMG my thoughts exactly about babies! I always try to find one feature like lips or chubby little hands and comment on that. Here's the laugh, I'm a social worker! I cannot lie! So after my co worker (a social worker ) had her second child, a daughter, she turned to me when we were in the office and said, "i can't help it but babies are so freakin' ugly that I just laugh to myself when people gush about her being Soooooo Cute" we laughed so hard.....of course she peed herself! Love you all, thanks for helping all of us get through this year . These next 4 years are going to be horrid - so please keep up your strength!

My father instilled in his 4 daughters to always have 2 bank accounts, their own bank account and a joint account for bills and household expenses, and to never be totally financially dependent on anyone, he opened savings accounts for each of us when we we kids and taught us to be responsible with it, thanks Dad, now I'm 70 and able to take of myself, it was the best lesson and gift I've ever received in my life
Regarding being sad about our kids growing up, we couldn’t be prouder of our sons and their families. I know the sadness I felt, is just knowing how fast time goes. I work at a thrift store in a small rural town sadwiched between 2 huge tourist towns. You wouldnt believe how many garbage bag sized clothing donations we get a day. Its between 8-20!! And half the clothing is barely worn and/or great brands. Youre totally on point about not needing fast fashion. I can feel blindly when im holding a shein or cheap clothing by the material and thin crappy construction of it. I am absolutely all for thrift-mas. Not to mention the amazing items we get in too. Quality stuff you dont see anymore unless you pay exorbitant prices at high end retailers. Its sick how much STUFF people have.

There’s this thrift store near me who every last friday of the month they get a big truck of old 90’s clothing that they dump out and you can go through it and fill a large bag for $15. I’ve found lots of great items but I always dwindle it down to 2 or 3 items when I’m paying out. Cotton sweatshirts and jeans were just built different in the 90’s! I don’t care if my sweatshirt is XL and says Brian on the front collar. It’s nice and thick and has plenty of life! Thrifting kicks ass and you can have a completely unique style!
I bought everything for my gift giving. I bought a 3 carat lab created ruby in a zodiac cancer jelly belly style for 1.00 canadian dollar. (A jewelry store would charge 50.00 +. The recipient was delighted. I can't wrap them as new so I just tell the story of how I thought of them when I see the thing! I got an Elsa singing to her horse Jewelry box that lights up for 3.00. The little girl just loves it. My wrapping is "I saw this and thought of beautiful you! Peace and love!
I have to drive up to my mother’s house. She is beyond sad because my grandmother just died. No one is going to my mother‘s house because my mom said Christmas is canceled this year. I’m driving up there and I don’t have one single gift or even a card. She said she didn’t want anything, but I still feel bad.

Watching dogs unwrap presents is so fun, though. The dogs don’t care how the presents look, and I loved watching my dog rip the paper off and spit it out. He was a skilled present opener and would inspect presents we got in the mail to see if they contained anything edible like he was a USDA beagle at the airport. I miss that dog.
You just mentioned Santa. My daughter, at maybe around 5 or so, asked me in the car one day, ask i had to laugh and think on my feet... She says, "mom, is Santa really just grandparents?"😂😂😂 NAILED IT. I'm pretty sure she's a genius actually but that was so funny. Another funny story is when she used to be an Evangelical Christian and I was not a churchgoer so that in itself was funny. But she was a teenager like a tween and I had never heard her talk about boys or think they were cute and I just came out with the question because I don't care either way. I asked, "honey, I never hear you ask about boys and o was boy crazy at your age...do you think you're a lesbian?" My stepsister is also one so it wouldn't be new in the family but look, she freaked out and said, MOM! I'M A CHRISTIAN!!" I'll just add that she can't stand that church now. She did go on some missionary trips that were good for her like doing habitat for humanity after the hurricanes in the south in Louisiana especially, but yeah she's not the same girl. It's funny looking back at it now, those reactions. Now she would call herself an atheist, but I let her get there all on her own.
The teenager looking like an adult portion reminds me of this crazy shit that happened at a high school in my hometown. There was a 33 year old woman that pretended to be a transfer student at this high school and stole her 15 year old daughter’s identity to do so. She claimed it was because she wanted to go back to relive her school memories?? She even joined the cheerleading team and went to a pool party with her coach and team before getting arrested.

My late husband's brothers used to wrap their Christmas gifts in newspapers. Worked fine. Of course, lots of people read their newspapers on line. Cats want boxes. Stopped buying gifts for a cat years ago.
I have had it with Christmas registries AND the Tik Tok presentation that goes with it. That's a total parent fail. I ask my kids ONCE what they want. They always say, "Oh mom, don't worry about getting me anything. Maybe a small gift card. Don't go to any trouble." (I buy them more than a gift card but it is always something they will use/wear.) If your older teens or grown kids are making registries and Tik Tok Christmas lists pump the brakes and teach your child about humility. Yeah, I'm judging others by my standards.

My oldest daughter Page was born on halloween with a silver streak in her hair. She was 10lbs with black hair and blue eyes, still has blue eyes like the sky at the age of 36 now. SHE was a beautiful baby. Still is. You guys are hilarious lol.

I don’t like christmas either. Too stressful, too extra, the decorations get on my nerves, the crowds drive me crazy. December 26 is my favorite day of the year. I respect the people that celebrate Christmas for the religious aspect. The rest is just commercial bs. Also, gift giving has gotten out of hand. We would give our kids things like baseball cards, books, toys , video game accessories. Their friends were getting things like computers, cell phones and designer handbags. I felt guilty that I never left a Lexus under the tree for my husband.

We stopped going to my inlaws for Christmas when she addressed a present to my husband and his ex-wife. She even set it on my lap to open. We've been together almost 40 years and her dementia has finally progressed to the point she can't remember how much she hates me.

As a child walking into the living room, and seeing all those beautiful gifts wrapped under the Christmas tree is one of my most fondest memories! I used to go crazy wrapping I would do designs with Hershey kisses, and decorated with candy and flowers. My present were not just paper. They were 100% over wraped… lol
Think about newborn - 2 week old puppies. No matter the breed or mix THEY ALL LOOK ALIKE. Those little half circle ears, same dome head, short muzzle. No matter how they will morph as adults 🐶

I work at a thrift store in a small rural town sadwiched between 2 huge tourist towns. You wouldnt believe how many garbage bag sized clothing donations we get a day. Its between 8-20!! And half the clothing is barely worn and/or great brands. Youre totally on point about not needing fast fashion. I can feel blindly when im holding a shein or cheap clothing by the material and thin crappy construction of it. I am absolutely all for thrift-mas. Not to mention the amazing items we get in too. Quality stuff you dont see anymore unless you pay exorbitant prices at high end retailers. Its sick how much STUFF people have.

There’s this thrift store near me who every last friday of the month they get a big truck of old 90’s clothing that they dump out and you can go through it and fill a large bag for $15. I’ve found lots of great items but I always dwindle it down to 2 or 3 items when I’m paying out. Cotton sweatshirts and jeans were just built different in the 90’s! I don’t care if my sweatshirt is XL and says Brian on the front collar. It’s nice and thick and has plenty of life! Thrifting kicks ass and you can have a completely unique style!
I bought everything for my gift giving. I bought a 3 carat lab created ruby in a zodiac cancer jelly belly style for 1.00 canadian dollar. (A jewelry store would charge 50.00 +. The recipient was delighted. I can't wrap them as new so I just tell the story of how I thought of them when I see the thing! I got an Elsa singing to her horse Jewelry box that lights up for 3.00. The little girl just loves it. My wrapping is "I saw this and thought of beautiful you! Peace and love!

I have to drive up to my mother’s house. She is beyond sad because my grandmother just died. No one is going to my mother‘s house because my mom said Christmas is canceled this year. I’m driving up there and I don’t have one single gift or even a card. She said she didn’t want anything, but I still feel bad.

Jennifer: I also have the same birthmark as does my daughter. Ours shows up when we are overheated or angry and crying. It’s like a big upside down triangle. My grandma used to call it the “Witch’s Mark”. She was from Appalachia.

Watching dogs unwrap presents is so fun, though. The dogs don’t care how the presents look, and I loved watching my dog rip the paper off and spit it out. He was a skilled present opener and would inspect presents we got in the mail to see if they contained anything edible like he was a USDA beagle at the airport. I miss that dog.

You just mentioned Santa. My daughter, at maybe around 5 or so, asked me in the car one day, ask i had to laugh and think on my feet... She says, "mom, is Santa really just grandparents?"😂😂😂 NAILED IT. I'm pretty sure she's a genius actually but that was so funny. Another funny story is when she used to be an Evangelical Christian and I was not a churchgoer so that in itself was funny. But she was a teenager like a tween and I had never heard her talk about boys or think they were cute and I just came out with the question because I don't care either way. I asked, "honey, I never hear you ask about boys and o was boy crazy at your age...do you think you're a lesbian?" My stepsister is also one so it wouldn't be new in the family but look, she freaked out and said, MOM! I'M A CHRISTIAN!!" I'll just add that she can't stand that church now. She did go on some missionary trips that were good for her like doing habitat for humanity after the hurricanes in the south in Louisiana especially, but yeah she's not the same girl. It's funny looking back at it now, those reactions. Now she would call herself an atheist, but I let her get there all on her own.

The teenager looking like an adult portion reminds me of this crazy shit that happened at a high school in my hometown.
There was a 33 year old woman that pretended to be a transfer student at this high school and stole her 15 year old daughter’s identity to do so. She claimed it was because she wanted to go back to relive her school memories?? She even joined the cheerleading team and went to a pool party with her coach and team before getting arrested.
Okay, wasn't there a woman who did this but without children and for much longer?!? Reminds me of that old MTV show, Strangers with Candy, iirc. 😂😂😂😂

My late husband's brothers used to wrap their Christmas gifts in newspapers. Worked fine. Of course, lots of people read their newspapers on line. Cats want boxes. Stopped buying gifts for a cat years ago.

I have had it with Christmas registries AND the Tik Tok presentation that goes with it. That's a total parent fail. I ask my kids ONCE what they want. They always say, "Oh mom, don't worry about getting me anything. Maybe a small gift card. Don't go to any trouble." (I buy them more than a gift card but it is always something they will use/wear.) If your older teens or grown kids are making registries and Tik Tok Christmas lists pump the brakes and teach your child about humility. Yeah, I'm judging others by my standards.
Not just gen z. I’m 61 and have completely changed my shopping. No fast fashion, quality only. Thrift or new. Tired of filling bags with donations or throw away clothes. Tired of crappy quality.

My oldest daughter Page was born on halloween with a silver streak in her hair. She was 10lbs with black hair and blue eyes, still has blue eyes like the sky at the age of 36 now. SHE was a beautiful baby. Still is. You guys are hilarious lol.

I don’t like christmas either. Too stressful, too extra, the decorations get on my nerves, the crowds drive me crazy. December 26 is my favorite day of the year. And this year scrooge aka the grinch, aka elonald, aka maga have sucked out what little joy there is with their tiny tiny dark little hearts.
I respect the people that celebrate Christmas for the religious aspect. The rest is just commercial bs. Also, gift giving has gotten out of hand. We would give our kids things like baseball cards, books, toys , video game accessories. Their friends were getting things like computers, cell phones and designer handbags. I felt guilty that I never left a Lexus under the tree for my husband.
Try to cheer up! Everyone is dreading the next four year's, hang in there. ❤

We stopped going to my inlaws for Christmas when she addressed a present to my husband and his ex-wife. She even set it on my lap to open.
We've been together almost 40 years and her dementia has finally progressed to the point she can't remember how much she hates me.
I am not actively attending church anymore or am I Catholic. But I swear I wished I had a bible and a rosary to say a prayer and a half dozen Hail Mary’s for you two, when you were talking about the babies!😃

May i just add- the lady who doesn't have funds for even her basic sundry items speaks to the issue of all the critically important but unpaid labor many a mom, homemaker & wife performs, affording her spouse a family, home & stability to go out into the world and work, for what should be on behalf of the needs of the entire family. I sure hope things get better for her.

As a child walking into the living room, and seeing all those beautiful gifts wrapped under the Christmas tree is one of my most fondest memories! I used to go crazy wrapping I would do designs with Hershey kisses, and decorated with candy and flowers. My present were not just paper. They were 100% over wraped… lol

I was able to stop hating Christmas when my family finally got off the ridiculous retail treadmill of buying gifts nobody really wanted, catching the flu in crowded stores, worrying about mailing deadlines, etc. What a ball-and-chain all that stuff is! Now I can enjoy the simple things: The lights in the city; wearing something fun and Christmas-ey just because; enjoying my friends and family, etc. Simpler is always better.
I think this applies to all people, haha. Very few people look good at first look. Personality bring attractiveness.
