I got mine because I wanted a set of headphones but still be able to hear my surroundings. Also it's great to have stills/video on tap all the time. They also look pretty cool. I got the Headliner Shiny Jeans versions with transitions as I need them for walking in summer and winter in the UK. With regards to Meta I think people are more aware of Meta now. It's your data, just supply the amount you're comfortable with.
In one podcast, I heard them talk about a coming feature where you can ask meta about something you see, like looking at a sign and asking what it means, but I havent seen this feature been described anywhere else… does someone know more about that?
Thank you for the video! Literally the only person I've seen who actually raised the viewfinder to their eye and not use the back screen. Considering using this with a rangefinder so the POV of you raising your camera was very helpful! Have you shot any footage with one of your Leicas?
Great video! I picked up a pair over the weekend and instantly started hunting down clear lenses myself. I ordered photochromic lenses from Fuse Lenses and will let you know how they fit when they arrive!
@@benjhaisch i have the 50mm model of frames so search “Ray-Ban RB2140 Original Wayfarer (50mm)” and then under the Standard (Non-Polarized) options to the very right end is photochromic option. I’m not certain they will fit yet, hoping they will! They should get here next week at the latest and will let you now. I can confirm the stock lenses pop out easily just like any other glasses.
I emailed Fuse and they said they don’t carry this size yet, but they could make me some custom ones? Looks like I’ll wait and see what James gets and/or if they get them in stock

Dope. I grabbed the 1st generation version of these and added my prescription (I purchased them from LensCrafters), and definitely have used them as a BTS option when I'm shooting. I am interested to see how different the new ones are vs. old model. I know that on the previous ones everything was shot as a 1:1 ratio.
There is something very "analog" about Rayban Meta smart glasses. I don't immediately look at the images that I've captured, and I know that I have a finite amount of images/video I can take before batteries die (and they do drain very quickly when recording). I dunno, it feels kinda of nice just shooting and not immediately reviewing what I've recorded. Maybe it's just the anticipation/excitement of reviewing footage / spatial audio later that feels good... Like you're on your way to pick up film that has just been processed/developed. (Love your editing btw....)
Just got my pair as well, really cool to have for being able to capture "those moments". What I like the most about them is the convenience, for example, my 4 year old that is autistic gets off the bus and my wife always asks how did he do? I was able to capture this as he got off the bus and watched the bus drive away. (His daily routine). They a little "chonkier" that i like.. but nothing too bad. Speakers and microphone are just as good if not better than the video quality. No updates yet that allows for other access to 3rd party apps. (You can play music from apple music but not using voice command like you can Spotify). So there is some downsides to what apps you do choose when accessing some of its features. But over 8/10 I really like them and would love to see some future updates making 3rd party apps accessible through voice command.
Just bought a pair last week.. was just looking to replace old sunglasses but these were in the store so I took a look. They were impressive for all the reasons you pointed out but the whole concept of a new convenience to tie phone, music, camera for active lifestyle (I ride my bike 200+ miles a week) was such a no brainer, I bought them with out a blink of an eye🤣
I’ve had my Rounds for a year . Got my prescription bi-focal lens put in. I’ve taken them to concerts , I screen print live at soccer tournaments, and they are awesome . Bike rides walking the dog , chasing the cats , they are cool . I don’t do social media ,but I send my vids and pic to friends that post them . Battery life seem good and yes the charger case is great . Want to experiment with covering the light so peeps don’t know . Oh yes I will use these in sketchy situations.
This is definitely interesting. In a mobile screen, your bike ride clip looks pretty darn great, so much more than enough for social media. The only thing that hyped me down a bit was the 1min limit, which while understandable for the size of the whole thing still feels a bit limiting, depending on what you are recording. And I wonder how clumsy that should feel to compose when you are trying to make a picture, given it won't show you what the camera sees on the eye level, so I'd guess it's only really useful for quick snapshots when your hands are busy.
Yeah, composing is going to take some getting used to for sure. I figure the distance between my eye and the camera is still less than my eye and the lens on a Leica though, so it should be able to be solved.
So I guess to circumvent the one minute recording restriction would it be safe to assume "live-streaming" to a personal non-public account work then? That way you have as much time as you want recording something?

Thanks for the review! I Tried them on yesterday, they only look good as sunglasses IMO, clear/prescription option looks chunky and weird on me. I'd be at over $600 for prescription sunglasses, yikes. I'd have to assume Apple, Google and Samsung will release their own versions within the next 12 months. But for $300, these are an excellent value IMO. I don't love Meta, but I have a feeling Apples will START at like $1,000. F-That. Do the photos and videos go to iPhones camera roll? Or, do you have to get them of some new Meta app?

@@benjhaisch I just bought a pair, the matte black with G15 transitions (prescription via LensCrafters). Total out the door was $650 USD. I had 350 in my FSA and 350 was covered by insurance. So basically 350 out of pocket since FSA was my own money lol
They look good. I don't talk to assistants either but that's because they're typically not good enough for what I want. These new ai chatbots are getting to the point where I'd want to ask them something that would be in a cheatsheet or table hidden in the internet and would actually find it and describe it efficiently. If they can describe me foreign signage when I travel privately in my headphones that would be great or how to use European washing machines or what my coins are that I got all mixed up that are from different countries...
I'll be honest, the fact that these don't have AR or some kind of heads up display is annoying. I have an android device, and I love to take pictures and use Google lens to figure out what kind of nature I took a picture of. Having an AR component would be great to do Google lens on the fly. Or if I'm in a different country the AR will help me navigate to and from places. Or even have full translation conversations with text displayed in AR. I wouldn't call these smart glasses, more like a smart phone extension.
The Meta AR glasses are still 3-4 years away. That's the ultimate goal is to somewhat merge some of the tech from the Ray-Ban smart glasses with some of the tech from the Meta Quest VR headsets.
There's no expectations of privacy in public. We're recorded by cameras everyday. The only thing that changes is who has control of the data, the people or the government.
sure, but I think the thing is that as a newer technology to cameras being integrated into everyday objects, there are some more nefarious people out there that would/could take advantage of this otherwise.
If Ray-Ban is so concerned about the privacy of others they should do a recall on the Ray-Ban Stories, have people send them back and issue a refund. I sure would like to get my money back. I don't like the bulky charging case of the Stories, a case that doesn't charge properly after a year and a half of use. A case that costs $70 to replace when they could make a $10 charging cable but yeah Ray-Ban is about the people and not the money.
I don't think there's any privacy concern here when you're in a public place you don't have any expectation of privacy. People are recording stuff on their phones all the time and glasses are no different.

Adding a light to the front that turns on when you record SOLELY for the comfort of people who haven't bought the glasses is the biggest error. Huh? How is privacy 'woke' or political? Japan for example had a huge problem with people taking unconsented violating pictures of women, so they worked a policy for permanent shutter sounds into cell phones to indicate when pictures are taken, to help prevent it from happening. Which is a good thing. This is similar. Again, how is that 'woke'? How is that a bad thing?

You can stream up to 30m (I think), make the stream private and just download it. - a way around the 60s recording limit.
I tried today and it didn’t give me the option to download it, but maybe I’ll have to create a private IG account and just stream from there

Ray Ban, pictures sometimes are lost/not uploaded. Pictures gets deleted without uploading. Pls fix the bug.

Very late response but for anyone else wondering. The answere is not yet but they are working on it!
For the battery life is it 4 hours on your face passive or 4 hours of active use (video, camera, music etc)
If it’s heavy heavy use, it’s less than 4 hours for sure. But the charging case does top it off real fast

You have to import them from the meta app, but they go straight into the camera roll from there. Not *too* clunky.

Japan for example had a huge problem with people taking unconsented violating pictures of women, so they worked a policy for permanent shutter sounds into cell phones to indicate when pictures are taken, to help prevent it from happening. Which is a good thing. This is similar. Again, how is that 'woke'? How is that a bad thing?
